  9. It's time for the 3rd annual DCP Finals Prediction Contest!!! Up for grabs this year are two brand spankin new genuine DCP mugs (picture). All you have to do to take home one of these beauties is make a prediction of corps placements at finals. First and second place predictions both win a mug! Here is how it works. How to play: 1. Make your prediction for the top 12 corps placement on Finals night (not Quarters or Semis). 2. Come up with a score for the corps that places first and the corps that places 12th. 3. PM me with your predictions, including your first and last name and your DCP screen name. You can post it to this thread, but it won't count unless you PM me. It might be helpful to me if you post a quick "I sent mine in" or something like that to this thread so I know you're in. 4. Wait and see what happens in what could be a tight race for the championship...or at least second place. Rules: - Each DCP member is allowed one entry. Once your entry is submitted you cannot change it, so think it through. You will be notified if you need to change either or both of your tie breaker scores in case of an exact duplication of corps placements and scores. - All entries must be submitted before 12:00pm Pacific time on Thursday August 12th, before quarterfinals begins. - Winners will be determined by the most accurate prediction of the top 12 corps placement, starting with your 1st place prediction and moving down through the 12th place corps. Scores will be used as a tie breaker; 1st place score as the first tie breaker, 12th place score as a second. - Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place predictions, each receiving their own genuine DCP mug. - Winners will be notified via PM. Public announcement will follow at the winners' consent. Good luck to everyone. If anyone would like an example of how the winners will be determined or have any other questions, let me know. BIG thanks to DCP for donating the prizes! I will not be playing, making it less hinky. However, the following post is an example of a prediction that might have won in the past.
  10. But why? Obviously it's easier to tweak a few drill moves, change a minute or two of music and play 85% of the same show. In some way it's like having two years to clean one show. Is that it, just because it's easier? And nowadays it seems no corps in their right mind would play the same show back to back. Again...why? If Crown comes back the following year with "The Grass is Even Greener", they might win a championship. Just wonderin.
  11. Being that I was only 8 and 9 years old respectively, what was the reason that Santa Clara decided to march "Phantom" again after 1988? Who made the decision and at what point was it decided? Trolling the boards it seems like the 1988 performance is "preferred" over the 1989 championship winner. Curious as to why. Just a question to those more "wiser" than I.
  12. OP: This is a brilliant post that should be shared with every corps director in DCI. btw, I think you would find that Blue Knights are also "refreshingly" old school this year.
  13. Great work Gary!!! Next Task: Number of corps with home offices/states closer to Denver than Indy
  14. Wish I could have been there. Heat and scheduling got in the way.
  15. Excellent review. Very nice read...especially this part: "Speaking of Invesco Field, that is without a doubt the best venue for drum corps I've ever been to in my entire life! I say DCI should forget Indy and have finals out here more often!" Finals in 2004 was and is beyond compare.
  16. Anybody know anything about this show, like what time and where and how much tickets shall be?
  17. Thanks for the fast turn around on the review. Good stuff.
  18. Unfortunately I won't see SCV (or BD again for that matter) until quarters in the theaters, and we all know how those performances come off. I've read good things about them. I hope you're right on BD because on first sight it was utter chaos at times. To me 1930 was more musical than this year's offering, and your right in that I actually liked the use of the chairs. I like the mirrors too, definitely used to enhance the show. Just too much going on and not enough melodic music. And yes Dennis, it was weird seeing the Devs in the sunlight. Very strange leaving this show before the sun had set.
  19. I totally agree with you. Last night in Stockton it really showed how you can overuse the synths. I was constantly looking back a forth between the horns and the keyboard player to see if there was some intermixing. Other than BK and parts of Troop, it was, as you say, mush. It seemed like everytime BD or the Mandarins had a big powerful moment, sure enough there was a kid on the keys with his left hand smashing down keys. It's not cheating because it's legal, but I certaintly hope "mush" is not the future. If this is the future then DCI should eliminate the high brass caption, or change it's name to something else.
