  1. An update for everyone: I emailed DCI and they said all the licensing for the audio recordings has been secured, and they should have the audio downloads available on Marching Music Downloads by mid February.
  2. I believe it is because 1981 Videos are from DCI Whitewater show, not finals in Montreal...Freelancers were either not at Whitewater or did not place high enough for 12th at that show. 1981 finals was not recorded due to some legal issues in Canada. Unfortunately, the only video of Freelancers from that week is the High Camera video from prelims... Edit: Just checked scores, and they placed 14th at prelims in Whitewater
  3. The last couple years audio downloads haven’t been released until around the end of January…I know because I looked back at my marching music downloads account and saw the charges on Jan. 31 two years ago, and Feb.2 this past year. So, I imagine that timeline will stay the same if they are indeed releasing them.
  4. For anyone who likes to collect stuff from the early DCI years, here is a poster (well-used, but still in decent condition for hanging in a frame) from 1977-78: https://www.ebay.com/itm/335151652375?hash=item4e08985e17:g:6poAAOSw0JBlb0tZ&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4EdLIJsB5l5Ns72T9WadE4jdPMIfLi2w4YRSKoxUpo743%2F7bvP28hqNllQKgTxGA9n2%2Bjivz3mFsJPLRTMWVlSpWSF9%2BaRGsHimxIofNV21RbEF%2FmfG1D5bfyRoY3QcASGmaA4O95%2FMca9gaXRPvDKBkYZDLdFtbPr4f11QgViIOaF0nHN5HI3a0SZ6F0xiCVZk7BIlt2rRBGEc32632rsp%2BWdZPOjUpvaGHU6r9o6eYGBjLW%2B6QK15woDhqh3JAhBXiuBW%2FRXkhbhAHrDoy%2Br5suZareumfXCcixAe9z2ha|tkp%3ABk9SR-SIrbKHYw
  5. Just got this email yesterday from BOA - I actually signed up for a monthly subscription ($30) just to check it out - it actually had a LOT of videos already, and it doesn't look like (from what I have seen so far) that there are cuts or edits to the videos for copyright issues. Full, intact shows with sound. I know FloMarching probably has the rights to streaming DCI videos on-demand right now for the most recent seasons, but I am wondering if we will see a partnership with DCI, SBN, Flo, etc. at some point. This would basically bring back the Fan Network everyone loved so much before the plug was pulled in 2015. One can hope :) Music for All Announces Video on Demand with BOX5 and SBN Music for All (MFA) is pleased to announce that Bands of America (BOA) and MFA performances will be available for on-demand streaming through a collaboration with SBN and BOX5 Media. Hundreds of BOA performances from 2023, 2022, and 2021 events are now available, including the 2023 Grand National Finals, with more performances being added. Select past year BOA performances are also available, with more added over time, as well as Music for All National Festival concerts. Subscribers can choose from an annual or monthly pass to stream BOA performances on-demand. MFA’s President and CEO, Dr. Jeremy Earnhart, said: "BOX5, SBN, and Music for All have been working together to make video-on-demand possible. We are excited to provide these exemplary performances for participants, families, and fans, as well as current and future music educators who can enjoy and be inspired by these outstanding scholastic ensembles." Through this collaboration, BOX5 Media will continue to livestream BOA Championships, available at boalive.tv, powered by BOX5 Media. Go to video.musicforall.org to learn how to start watching today.
  6. This past weekend was the Cadets Alumni weekend in North Jersey - Friday night was supposed to be a Meet and Greet with the Cadets board...was anyone there?? Would love to hear what was said and discussed that evening.
  7. Michael is listed as on the brass staff for that year in the DCI program, but RWS is listed as the arranger for that show for Cadets. I guess we need to confirm with Michael somehow…I had always heard it was RWS who arranged it.
  8. Wow, I didn't realize he was only 64 - gone way too soon...that means he was pretty young when he was arranging and composing shows for Suncoast in the mid 80's. I remember him conducting the NJ All-State Band a number of years ago, and it was one of the best NJ All-State band concerts I had seen in my band directing career. He performed the whole Divine Comedy set that he had composed, and it was extremely captivating. Not just the performance by the kids, but his description between pieces of what he was trying to convey, etc. It was very engaging and at the end when he had the brass stand up and play during the climax of Paradiso, it brought goose bumps to everyone in the audience.
  9. The marketplace was great…lots of room, food trucks were a nice touch, and pretty easy to navigate. Yes, it is nice having it in the stadium, but coming from someone who only visits the marketplace BEFORE the show and then stays planted in the stands for every corps performance, it was great. For those that liked to visit during intermission or during their not so favorite corps performance it was probably an inconvenience…but for me, I give it an A. 🙂
  10. Sat in Allentown all weekend thinking how awful it is that we will not have HD downloads or Blu-ray’s available for all of these awesome shows. Last year was tough, but this year is even harder to swallow. Licensing costs are just a killer…I think that while following the law is right for the composers, etc., it is backfiring and not helping the overall music world. Something needs to change, especially in the marching band, drum corps world. I know a lot of people are just satisfied with YouTube videos, screen recordings from FLO, and phone recordings from the stands to remember the season (all technically illegal of course). I am not one of those people…guess I am a Dino now. And, I would bet Tom Blair is broken up about this too. The Blu-ray’s from previous seasons are absolutely brilliant, and the closest thing to being there live. Unfortunately I will probably never experience that again in the near future with the way the laws are and the fact that DCI, BOA, WGI, and every other circuit can not afford the licensing costs. I know I have lamented this before, but it is just so sad to me.
  11. Since I first started following the activity back in the mid 80’s, there are many people that have had a huge impact on DCI. But there are two in my head that will always stand out, and whom I think don’t get enough credit for all of their hard work behind the scenes to keep DCI afloat…Bill Cook (RIP), and Dan Acheson. There is of course Don Pesceone and the whole crew who started DCI, and they deserve kudos too. But Bill and Dan are two very special people in my book. 🙂

  14. 92 program is here: https://pubhtml5.com/xada/zzkk/Drum_Corps_International_1992_Yearbook/
  15. I think Mark Sylvester wrote the 87 drill, and yes, I believe what you state about the show design is correct
  16. I noticed Oregon Crusaders and Pioneer are also missing from various years of scores…
  17. 88 had a few…controversial in different ways but still raised eyebrows among fans: Blue Devils with their black and gray unis, winning most shows up until finals week with a drill many felt was far too easy, etc. I personally love that show 🙂 Suncoast as mentioned earlier Spirit of Atlanta going all classical with white unis and Petrouchka 89 - Sky Ryders going classical and dark with Hindemith and Carmina Burana. Cadets going Broadway with Les Mis and placing 5th despite a lot of fan love. 90 - Blue Devils choice of Tommy (loved that show too) 91 - Star wins with an unbelievable show, but not all fans were in love with it. It has become legendary as time went on. Lots more, just don’t have time to continue

  19. Last year the 2021 summer downloads didn't come out until January...I know that was the weird COVID summer, so we can't base this year off of that, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait till January despite DCI's November announcement. Given the recent sad news, it would be nice though if they were released next week right before Christmas - something positive coming from DCI right before the holiday :) I'm worried that the hold-up could possibly non-music related - the narration from Bluecoats or Cadets shows. Sometimes those voice-overs cause more issues than the music itself. Just speculating...
