  1. I was the Drum Major for the Bluecoats from 1988-1991. We always had a good time trying to be the last to the sideline! It was part of the show. In fact, we would approach the line and pause with one foot in the air until the final DM arrived to guarantee we were last to set. It was no different than when all of the corps lined up single file for retreat to set up on the field, the contra lines always spread themselves out to make sure their corps looked the longest! Showmanship folks!! It was about entertaining the fans and they enjoyed it!
  2. According to recent reports Sly is no longer with SCV. Where will he end up? He is one of the best out there!!!
  3. Does anyone have information on the Bluecoats Opening Camp? How was the attendance?
  4. These days drum corps is a business and a business wants to put its best foot forward. Why blame politics, the economy and wars on this? I believe we have been fighting these wars for a while now so you can't place blame there. Any successful business knows a major reason for their success and profitibility is the marketing and advertising they put forth to achieve their goals. I am not asking for the down and dirty details of each show and I know there will be plenty of changes throughout the course of the year. But don't you think it would be great to know when deciding on where to audition what that corps' theme is or who the major instructors are for the year?
  5. So I am just curious, this is the time of year (offseason) that each corps is preparing for the upcoming season. Why wouldn't each corps be marketing to the public or prospective members what the corps has installed for their success? Meaning I would think by now, most corps have a majority of their staff in place and should be proudly communicating that to the mass. Or even the framework or theme of where they are heading for the year. I personally think that if more prospects knew of what each corps was preparing for the upcoming year, the corps' could/would draw more people or interest to join. Am I thinking this out correctly or have I been out of the lifestyle/scene so long that it is more important to keep everything a secret until the very last moment?
  6. Has anyone seen or heard from Allison Wise who marched in the guard in the late 80's? Just an old friend here trying to catch up.
  7. I marched from 1987-1991 with the Bluecoats while living in Northern Virginia and commuted to Canton, Ohio for every camp along with a couple of other members. And my roommate and friend traveled up to Garfield/Cadets camp as well. It took less than 6 hours to reach Canton for us. It was worth every second of the drive!!
  8. Maybe they should incorporate the "Bottle Dance" and then finish off with "Firebird"!! Where is the low down dirty jazz?!?!?!?!?!?!
  9. Well I hope you are correct because I miss their old style and that type of entertainment.
  10. Where did the Big Band Jazz style go? Maybe the corps should play The Sound of Music instead?
  11. Has anyone heard what music they are playing this year?
  12. No not Jeff Wilt, but what a great set of chops he had!
  13. That is FANTASTIC Bluecoats!! Makes me want to go down in the basement, put on the old 1987 uniform and start singing "Autumn Leaves" all over again! Keep up the Great Work Bloooooooooooo!
