  1. Why don’t they do a history of jazz ? Feature styles of jazz from Louisiana, Missouri, New York , Chicago etc…
  2. My wish is they are more like 2022 than they were in 2023 musically speaking 😁. Also, they need a new soundboard operator. The bass was absolutely absurd. 🥲
  3. Absolutely it always is up to the corps is to decide what happens. This is the problem/concern I have always had, are the people making these decisions doing so with the best interest of the corps and the activity in mind or are they making decisions for their own personal gain? Also, are they making decisions with the impact to the future in mind 3, 5 .. years down the road or just for the here and now?
  4. 94, 95, 99, 01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23…. 22 total for me. I had to skip a couple of years. In addition to finals night , for most of these I attended all three days Thur, Fri, Sat Top 3 favs, 1994 first one and my fav corps at the time won, 2008 awesome show choices , awesome weather and great crowd and 2011 lots of great shows . I have also been to both nights in Allentown for almost every year since 1997.
  5. I don’t think anyone would say the activity should not evolve. Obviously the rub happens when we discuss to what degree should things evolve? At what pace? Fans (including myself) don’t want to see the activity evolve to the point the activity is no longer recognizable. Seeing speaker arrays , miles of cable , non-members (as many as 5 people sometimes) manning soundboards, wireless mics for one horn player for each horn section (trumpet , baritone..etc.) to augment the overall brass sound and condenser mics covering the entire field is expensive completely detracts from what makes a drum corps sound unique compared to other musical groups/activities . There is always a breaking point to evolution and change and hopefully the powers at be will pull back a bit .
  6. I was talking with someone in Indy on finals night about this. There are so many different awards. They should have had the best hat award lol. probably would’ve been a three-way race Mandarins Troopers and Jersey Surf
  7. It was clearly not a formally judged Year, but in my opinion the overall look and swagger of the corps was great in 2021 and was definitely well received. I think they should have stayed on that course for a 3 year stint and after 3 decide /assess where things are at.
  8. 50 mini Washington Monument replicas for sale … call 1800-BlueKnights
  9. I don’t think stagnation would happen because corps and designers are always going to the want to have the best and most clever ideas and design. The members of the corps are putting in the most effort by far and that’s where the focus of the scoring should be ; on the members efforts not the designers
  10. Respectful and response/applause to someone’s liking are two separate things . I think this weeks crowds have been very respectful to alll the performing groups. I personally stand and applaud after every performance because every group is working hard.
  11. Trust me, I don’t mean this to be a jerk I am seriously asking are you new to drum corps? Fans have reacted all sorts of different ways over the years for Corps and their individual performances. It has been this way forever even pre-dci
  12. From here on the 50 15 rows from the sideline in person Crown nailed it tonight!!
  13. I am here on the 50 yard line 15 rows from the dm’s and this was definitely an off night for troopers. They can do much much much better. 😁
  14. Yeah, I heard the drum swells live in Allentown. I just don’t like it for such a sensitive moment musically . In a dome it will probably sound worse maybe if they take the volume/dynamic way down it will work better?
  15. The piece in the ballad they need to switch is the little drumline swells accompaniment from right to center to left …does not sound good. The switch to yellow flags would be great
  16. I like this… Swap, Mandarins and Cadets and that would be a perfect outcome in my book 😁
  17. Pull points out of the most subjective captions and place them in the lesser subjective captions. Most who have been around a while know what those captions are. Why corps don’t want to do this is very interesting to me. I would love to hear 3 reasons why corps are unwilling to adjust the judging system to be the least subjective as possible 😊
  18. Hello folks I hate to say this, but in a blink of an eye, the 2023 season will be over. So it’s never too early to start thinking about 2024. 😄. Question, simple one , for those who get tickets every year and probably get an advanced email notification, When do the San Antonio tickets typically go on sale?
  19. I have missed the Allentown weekend twice since 1997. I think the idea of the marketplace with food trucks is a good one. if I made one small tweak, it would be , if possible. Spread the food trucks out a bit more. When it was busy, it was kind of a large unorganized pile of folks .Didn’t know who was in a line, or who was just standing and chatting. I heard originally they were thinking of using Linden Street however safety could been an issue. Overall, I had a great time as usual. I love going to Allentown, as do many many others. I would never change the venue. I bet if they were donation boxes and there was an announcement made during the show to say please see if you can give us a few dollars to improve the venue and help keep the Allentown show here at J Birney you would get a good response. 😊
  20. Hello also just reaching out to see if anyone knows where the best post show hangouts with drum corps folks is in downtown Indianapolis? Also, what is the DCI headquarters host hotel? I would imagine it would be a good happening scene there….
  21. And for this reason is why I think the GE caption needs to be completely revisited and turned on its head. There is certainly a a lot of great effect in BAC’s show, and the coordination and transitions are very smooth, especially compared to bd and bluecoats. Just my humble opinion.
  22. There is a special-needs section for people to sit who cannot negotiate the stairs. It has been there since they revamped the stadium many years ago.
