  1. well, that is quite a bit of information. thank you very much for it all. farmington does parades and field shows. we actually put on quite the amazing show but guard doesnt get much out of it. we focus a lot on the band. We also put on an indoor show at the end of the marching season that brings everything together. And since we have just started using rifles last year we dont feature them at all...unfortunately but i do hope that we begin to. At the moment our band has one instructor/teacher. He is the FHS band teacher. He knows a lot about guard but is a VERY busy man and never has much time to help. We have been looking for an instructor strictly for guard for awhile now but we have been unsuccessful. My teacher agrees and many school board members agree to this. we just need to get everybody willing to be involved and support our guard. But, if you could get me some of those ladies that would be willing to help or be hired as a permanent instructor that would be great. thank you again jenny
  2. Okay, i will do that. Actually masterles I have found that sally has been the most help with everything. She is understanding and has given me much information. So before you judge poeple and warn people about them you should really know what you are talking about!!! And, to go with what sally did say. Our guard has seen their days of uniforms. Their first uniform ever was a BRIGHT orange shirt, like a disco shirt thing, and black pants. Then from there they went to a little white shirt and hot pants and a garter around their leg-that one was quite interesting. Then they came to where we are now in a hot and heavy uniform like the band wears except with teardrops and skirts instead of pants and a hat. Then, 2 years ago the guard captain decided she wanted more of a dance costume type thing and they made thier own uniforms that were tight black pants and little one shouldered shirts with a diagnaled cut to the bottom of it. It was quite interesting. I have actually talked to the quard this year and they are quite comfortable wearing whatever. None of us are very fond of the uniforms now because they are hard to move in and terribly heavy.
  3. FINALLY...somebody understands what my director is doing and NOT trying to discourage me. Well, I have checked out a few different websites, found quite a bit actually. I got the rule book now and quite a few ideas. Thank you again!
  4. Actually, my band director is VERY supportive of all of us. I personally dont know of any other teacher that is as supportive as he is. He just doesnt want to "feed" us the information. He wants to know that we will pull our own weight and do our own work. Everybody has to work for what they want and that is just what we are all doing. So thank you very much but I do have a VERY supportive band director for this subject!!!
  5. actually i already know that. My band director is who has sent all of the guard to find information. He know A LOT about all of this but he said that he wont just feed us the information. if we want to show that we want this we will find everything ourselves, so that is why i am here and spending hours online trying to get information from here and MANY other websites.
  6. i will do that, thank you again. I really hope that i can find an instructor through there...HOPEFULLY!!!
  7. lol, i did do that and i thank you for getting me to here. i was actually sorta shy about what to do. i felt sorta dumb since all of these people knew what was going on and i just sat here in awww...so yea, i do thank all of you for your help
  8. Wow, that sounds like it was quite an awesome thing. Well, since a corps seems to be practically impossible, what about this winter guard. I have seen some stuff with is but not much. How many people are usually involved with it? How can i get this properly set up in my high school? And, where can i find some updated rules for competitions? My band directors info is quite outdated!!! :P
  9. okay, i'll watch what i say and the information that i put out there. well, i do know some stuff about all of this. I am here because i had contacted somebody to help and they said for me to check out everything here and set up some forums to get help from all of you people, which you all are doing. I have actually learned a lot in the past like week. I'm keeping in contact with my band director. He know just about all there is to know about this stuff but said that if we want to get more involved we have to do our own work and get out there and find new things because he isnt just going to feed us the information.
  10. okay, ive gotten a little bit of information but now im wondering about more. Is the guard supposed to wear the same uniform as the band or are supposed to have a different uniform? We currently have the same uniform minus that hats and pants plus a skirt and teardrop. What kind of uniforms is proper for guard to wear?
  11. Okay, as many of you know, if youve checked our my other forums, my schools guard is just getting started up. I personally dont know what winter guard is and not many on the guard here do. What exactly is it and how could we possibly get involved? Also, there are a bunch of us that want to get a drum corps set up in our school. Our marching band is already excellent, we have many 1st prize trophies from many different parades but we dont know much about drum corps. My teacher told us that if we want to get one started we have to do our own research and learn as much as we can before he steps in and says what we can do. So...here are some questions: ~What exactly do drum corps do? ~What parts of the band is involved? ~About how many people are involved in it? ~How can we get this up and started as soon as possible?
  12. okay, now i got some questions about this. my guard is currently using some REALLY old 36 in rifles. i have no idea what brand they are even but they arent weighted very well. so just recently we bought some more but they are quite shorter and there balance is even worse. im checking out the website that ChopsIncChic03 posted but do any of you know of any other websites or places i can look at so i have some options.
  13. Where are all of you people finding guard instructors. i dont think that FHS has ever had one, we all just teach eachother what we know but we seriously need one bad since we are participating in the Martigraw parade in New Orleans this February. we even have some rifles and want to get some sabres going. where can i find an instuctor?
  14. thank you very much for the websites. i will definitely check them out but our budget is tight and im not sure if that will work. I know that i would personally be taught in person by somebody than to be taught by a video but if it is my last resort i will. So if anybody knows of any instructors or possibly some camps that we could attend that would help us. thank you.
  15. The problem is-i dont konw where to start with my questiongs. I guess in need to learn about rifles the most because we only have 3 in our guard and we dont even know the proper names for our moves-if our moves are actual moves. I guess my first question has to be if you know of any instructors in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Or possibly you know of some camps or something that we can participate in. We are willing to do anything to help out our guard. Thank you again for your help.
