  1. Thanks for giving love to open class! I am leaving tomorrow to meet up with 'my corps' so of course I would love to hear all about the show...
  2. They are all standing at retreat right now! Things should happen nicely now!
  3. Alright all of you out there in Michigan City..I need some info..some reviews..something! I could not be there this year due to work and I am going through serious withdrawal! I miss my corps..the kids the volunteers the staff! I need to hear anything! Please! and thank you!
  4. Simple Gifts..aaron copeland from appalchian spring hmm Didn't BAC do this recently
  5. hmmm back in the 70's... I had my dad make me a wooden table like thing that had a leg on it! so my seat partner and I could put a blanket across it and both of us could lay down and stretch our feet to the seat across from us!!! Luckily those people didn't mind! Yep it was unusual but it worked for us!!! I once slpet on the floor on the way home from "Drum Fest" in Boston...much to my surprise the a fire occurred on the bus and everyone scrambled to get off...only I was not able to move so quick with everyone jumping over and on me!!! I never slept there again...
  6. Absolutly..I know ..first hand that there's no other way to insure a properly run show..and Sue can and will help.. but I also know that dates for shows are already in the works and there may not be available dates to suit your needs..get in touch with Suesoon if you are serious.. just my 2 cents
  7. Looks like Branford Ct is going to be Live and Loud!!! :)
  8. Hey Irving!!!!! We definately share lots of the same memories!!!! I am very proud of these kids..they're a great group! "bundle of sticks" (inside joke)
  9. "Hornline you gotta make love to the audience at this part, turn around and blow it in their face." said by my son's instructor...
  10. Fantastic!!!! a way to continue the drum corps tradition long after you age out... VOLUNTEER! Great post!!!!!! I loved the one about not calling them pet names...( I have been guilty of that..but he only gives me that look...I'll try harder not to do this in the future) I learned to volunteer from my dad who drove a bus, cooked meals..fixed brass instruments..found a way to always be funny and helpful to everyone. I think he even enjoyed having the entire guard sleep at our house before the last show (1970something) every year! ( for like over 8 or so years) I now volunteer as a guard tech, sew costumes, flags and uniforms...even maybe to an extreme (as some people around here would say) But I am so happy that I am able to enjoy having my son involved in the one activity that I did at his age (back in the 70's)we always have lots to talk about... now my question...how can we entice MORE volunteerism..how can we have more parents to committ to helping out a corps!??? Even for just a little of their time. I know that having a extra hand in many tasks can make the tasks less exhausting. I have found some of the best people helping out and made instant friends with many of them.. again thank you for the great read! :)
  11. so I know there were corps in New Hampshire and Maine...they aren't in the count..
  12. in 71..I would have the entire guard spend the night at my house a few days before the NE circuit championships! 20 something girls spending the night was a treat for my brother.... we called them LP parties ....my dad and bro would make breakfast for all of us then off to rehearsal we went. Needless to say we were dragging at the practice field.... you know that saying ..what goes on in Vegas..stays in Vega??? let's leave it at that. hmmm my dad was oblivious ^0^
  13. I marched 68 through 77ish...my son (college freshman) been marching since 03 on trumpet... yay drum corps!!!
  14. Believe it or not..they'll be 4 theaters in CT..not just 1 like before (an hour away) I'll only have to drive for maybe 25 minutes! An CT is small..how cool is that!
  15. Oh yea.. when I marched..we did Jesus Christ Superstar in 72 (complete with a 13 ft lit cross)then in 73 we did fiddler on the roof.( yes with the roof and the fiddler).. so themes were happening back then for sure... :)
  16. I def remember seeing them in Lynn Ma..World open..little kids in what looked to be in green trash bags..but I could be wrong...I mean..the 70's were like well...never mind B)
  17. I must agree with that!!!!!!! What is it he does? Is he an actor? a disc jockey? where did he come from...??? I am quite certain the network could have found someone with a clue............

  19. That's actually funny.....and might I say ...oh never mind...ok ...old! sorry
  20. Manning bowl for sure! That's where we won World Open B...where we saw the sprinkler system go off during the show (not sure what year) Got to see all the corps the duck pond.. I also liked Butler, Franklin Field, Drumfest in Boston, our own home show (the crowd was fantastic) Mile High, Ne circuit championships..heck...I guess I liked everything now that I think of it...wish I could do it all over again! B)
  21. Yes the Surfers wore blue and gold.. I had petty pants and may still have them somewhere here! Yes..prelims were an all day thing..the year we won (71) we didn't find out later in the day whether we made finals that had to be performed that evening. No cells..just staioning someone at the stadium who dorve back to the housing site..and in Lynn it was Pickering Jr High. That year we were housed with the CMCC Warriors! What fun! Hmm I remember something about peacock feather things.not sure why tho. ahh, judges were everywhere they shouldn't be. I hit one with my flag...he scooted the other way only to bump him again... ^0^
  22. I drove lots of people to practice in my 1967 bel Air Station wagon.. ok..I like to play.."Name that corps colors" inspection lines... ( before the tall black boots) we wore gold short boots and had to spray paint them before each show... we also owned 5 blue busses..everyone owned painted school busses.
  23. Oh my....it's nice to know that our girls bus (yes it was a girls bus back then) weren't the only ones playing those singing, clapping songs...Like "Gitarzan"....or singing all the words to "Ball Of Confusion" And yes, host corps didn't compete in their own shows! and when DCI was new... anyone remember Yankee Circuit, Northeast Circuit, Greater NY circuit..Garden State Circuit??? we did them all! when CT had 15 corps!!! :P tall black boots..which I still have and they fit!
  24. hmmm I remember..Drumfest..in Boston. An indoor show very early in the season at either BU or Boston College ( I can't remember)
