  4. We did a show there in 1984. I remember it being the most lush, perfectly manicured field I'd ever set foot on. I also remember our equipment truck almost going up in flames on the way to the show. Shawn
  5. Folks - regarding the lousy audio: I don't know if it's been mentioned as I have not read this entire thread, but there was no "audio set-up" for the show. No microphones were set up. The audio feed cam from the Side 2 sideline camera the was shooting the pit primarily. Often he would park right in front of the pit speakers on that side. That's why the pit overpowered everything. That's also why the field brass and battery sounded so muffled. In most cases cameras like that have a shotgun mic (mono) because they are used primarily for interviews, etc. The microphone recording level on the camera was way too high for drum corps, hence the terrible distortion. The company hired to do this webcast obviously had NO IDEA how to shoot a drum corps show. I pity the people who paid expressly for this show. Shawn
  6. The Semifinals tickets have been sold. I still have 7 Prelims tickets available. Shawn

  10. I have some extra tickets for sale for the Tour of Champions show in Murfreesboro (Masters of the Summer Music Games) on July 26. This is a set of 4 in Section 1RR (the center section), Row 4 (24 rows up from the field), Seats 7-10 (seat 10 is on the 49 yard-line). They are $45 each or I will sell the set for $160. I have sat in this area every year for this show and they are the best in the house! PM if interested.
  11. They didn't actually write the narration. It's taken directly from Philip Glass's "Einstein on the Beach" which is also where the opening narration and counting are from. I think the narration in the ballad, if they decide to keep it, would be more effective if they stopped after the line you quoted above. However, it all leads up to the "Impossible, you say?" at the end that carries everything into the closer. So, I get why it's there.
  12. I do. Blu-ray is far, far superior in audio and video quality to what you get on the Fan Network. I also don't want the availability of shows to be subject to the whims of someone else. If you own physical media, you have it for LIFE - as long as you have something that can play it. So glad I OWN the DVD of 2008 Finals that was put out before the edit to Phantom's show was done, for example. Long live physical media! Shawn
  13. None of that applies for discrete multichannel audio found on blu-rays and DVDs. Those setting are a relic from the "old days" when only stereo source material existed. It was a way of artificially creating different types of "ambience" in a multi-speaker listening environment from two-channel material. NONE of those settings should be used with discrete multichannel source material. Shawn
  14. First, the blu-ray player should be connected to the TV and the Pioneer receiver. If the player has two HDMI outputs, you could use one for the TV and one for the receiver. That's the most straightforward way (you'll need two HDMI cables). The video will go straight from the player to the TV and the audio will go straight to the receiver. If there is only one HDMI output, run it to the receiver and another HDMI cable OUT of the receiver to the TV. That way is actually a little easier since you only have to change the source on the receiver to watch a blu-ray. In the past that could create problems with the "handshake" between the blu-ray player and the TV since the signal goes through the receiver on the way. That could be a problem if it's an older receiver. If the receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs/outputs, you'll have to use the analog audio connections (6 cables for 5.1) between the player (if it has them) and the receiver. HDMI and analog audio outs are the only way to experience the dts-HD Master Audio that is on the blu-ray discs. If you are using an optical (Toslink) or coaxial digital audio connection between the player and the receiver, you will only get the compressed "core" Dolby Digital audio. Hopefully you have HDMI all the way around. If that's the case, the only setup issue is whether to have the player output the "bitstream" audio via HDMI for the receiver to decode, or to have the player decode the dts-HDMA and send out "PCM" audio via HDMI to the receiver. Either way should give equivalent results. However, you can only output bitsteam if the receiver is capable of decoding it. If it is a newer model, it should be no problem. If it's older, it may not be able to decode all or any of the high-resolution "lossless" audio formats found on blu-rays like dts-HDMA or Dolby TrueHD. If that's the case, set the player to output 5.1 PCM audio via the HDMI connection. The player will then decode the dts-HDMA to PCM (which the receiver can use) and send that out. Then, make sure you choose dts-HD Master Audio in the setup menu on the blu-ray when you watch the DCI discs. In fact, with any blu-ray disc, choose one of the following with your setup (depending what is actually on the disc): dts-HD Master Audio (5.1), Dolby TrueHD (5.1), or multichannel (5.1) PCM audio. As long as your system is calibrated properly (that's a whole 'nother topic), just sit back and crank 'er up! Enjoy! Shawn
  15. I guess we've all seen a stranger at some point somewhere (other than a drum corps show!) wearing a drum corps t-shirt. Real life is actually a small world. But it's pretty rare to see a drum corps t-shirt being worn in a Hollywood movie. One of those rare occurrences is being shown tonight (Aug. 17) on the HBO Family channel - Cloak and Dagger (1984) at 10:30 EDT. This movie is only notable for being Henry Thomas' first film after E.T., and the fact that a DCI Miami t-shirt makes an appearance about halfway through (if memory serves) worn by a random extra on a boat on the San Antonio Riverwalk. It's actually on-screen for almost a minute. Are there any other drum corps t-shirt sightings in the movies? Shawn
