I think next year someone needs to design a show in the same exact style as BD. Visual body movement and everything. Just to see what happens. And to see if it forces BD to do something new
If they could, they would. In terms of vocabulary, Bluecoats are close

I made a conscious decision to only say positive things this season. But seriously. Whoever is running this show needs to figure it out. The traffic/concession/souvie experience is one of the worst I've ever experienced.
Got close to the front of the food line but had to jump out so I didn't miss the home team. Ran straight out, and the had CLOSED THE F#$&#@G CONCESSION STAND!!!!!!!! Anyway, the Cadets were great!

Crown horns are truly magnificent. But that ballad. Wow! May be the most mature brass playing not of this year but any drum corps I can remember. I know that's a bold statement, and I'm sticking to it!
And the body work while they play it is stunning. The amount of physical control to be able to move like that and still play with such musical control is just unreal.

I'm with you. I really enjoyed 2021 more than most seasons because there were no scores. I used to get so uspet about them, but it's been a long time since I have. It doesn't really matter, although I talk about it too much. But when I watch and listen to past shows I don't even think about where the show placed.
Truth! In my youth in the 80's, I could tell you every placement. Now I hardly remember who won in any year.

Let me guess, your not impartial, from California and a huge BD fan?
I'm not impartial. I like shows that I like🤣
I grew up in TN, have lived in OH for the past 25 years, and I marched in corps from IN and NJ. I do like visiting CA. I was in San Francisco a couple weeks ago for the opera, and I loved it as always!
I'm definitely a BD fan. They're great! Also a huge fan of Crown, Coats, Madison, Phantom, Cavies, etc, etc, etc. But Cadets is my team!

Yeah, well I just heard there was booing which sounded strange to me. You'll all beat them several times in '86. I loved that Star show.
Wow, what a show to march '87 Garfield. To this day, my two favorite shows are '87 Vanguard and '87 Garfield. I still hum Appalachian Spring all the time.
I remember the only time we saw you in '88 during the season, at Morgantown, WVA. We were in the stands watching you (I was a rookie). As your show went on, the mood of the vets got worse and worse, and I just heard mumblings from them about how you were destroying us. When scores were announced you had 89.0 and we had an 88.9. That was such an unbelievable thrill. As a Jr. Scout watching Garfield, particularly in '84, '85 and '87 I could never imagine that I would ever be as good as Garfield, much less end up beating them.
Your '88 show is HUGELY underrated. Such a brilliant show.
Right back atcha! I remember waiting in the tunnel in 88 and seeing the end of your show and hearing the crowd go nuts!! Still one of my favorites!
Btw, in 88, we traded off who was "horn sergeant" at retreat between age ours. I got to do one time only, and that was in Morgantown!

What year did DCI start awarding titles for best guard? Anyone know?
I don't know the answer, but I recall 1985 when SCV won guard....aaaand then were told Spirit won 😬

Looking at the content numbers alone (over achievement numbers), the gap should be bigger between 1 and 2. Broken Arrow can’t come any sooner. Fun year for DCI ❤️
NO!! The sooner it comes, the sooner drum corps is over....and school starts!!! 😭

A lot, I think. I hate that BD wins. I want to see BD 4th or 7th or 10th. I like seeing new corps win and the top corps struggle from time to time. It's so boring that they win all the time, but I'd rather have it be boring and fair than exciting and unfair.
In 2021, I was happy to see that drum corps could still be awesome without competition. I'm getting old, and I'm kind of over the numbers.

Well I think it's because they are the four best corps in the activity right now and people have high expectations, get disappointed when their corps doesn't win, and come after these corps because of their success.
If you were around in the mid-80s you would have had this happening to your Cadets, or Garfield as I'll always call them. I always loved them. They were so dignified and classy but the first meeting with them was always an experiment in terror, because they really were the best corps of the mid-to late 80s. Other corps did not like them as much as I. I can tell you that.
'86 was a blood bath. I was in Jr. Scouts and we heard stories all summer of how much they sucked and fans were booing them. I still don't know if that's true, but they sure turned it up finals week (the only time I saw them in '86). I
I was being somewhat sarcastic. On this forum, there has been some pretty brutal criticism of Cadets. They don't get the heat much now except for from the alumni 🤣 😢
I was marching Star in 86, and I don't remember them being booed, but we were jealous that they kept beating us 🤣
I was fortunate to go to Garfield in 87 and 88. Great years for drum corps!

Welcome to the daily life of a BD fan.
Hit up @theonlyfizzle he might have a new shipment of "BD Troll Be Gone Repellent"
It should work for BAC fans if you guys need it.
It's a shame people only hate on BD, Crown, Boston and Bluecoats. So over the top!!
Fortunately, no one ever criticizes my Cadets. 🤣 😢

BAC's horns haven't sparkled all year!! Once they fix those Mellos...maybe.
I wouldn't say that. They're wonderful. BD is just on a different level. But the BAC low brass is especially great!

Atleast over Flo, BAC's hornline sounded very controlled, but with little "sparkle." I hesitate to make any assessments until I see both live
True dat. I was fortunate to see BAC, Crown and Coats in Cincinnati. TV is...well...TV. Looking forward to Atlanta when I get to see them all.

That one second
Amazing powerful shows before the pandemic- they just never had the visuals- not that I noticed. BK is one of my top corps for audio replays.
That One Second still gets me every time! ❤️

I was catching up and saw BD and BAC back to back without a break. I dont know how the judges can separate those two groups. BDs brass book is exposed and challenging, but BAC has a much more warm and sonorous sound. Both shows are awesome visually. Both have out of this world guards. I know BD is going to win because that is how DCI works, but I honestly do not see much difference in quality.
It's amazing how people perceive things differently. I felt exactly the opposite. As soon as Boston started, I felt badly that they had to follow BD and have those sounds go head to head. BAC is indeed wonderful, but this BD corps is on another level. Of course, it's all subjective anyway. Overall, great year for drum corps!

Boston's battery book is much more difficult than BD's. Whether they get that spread is another issue.
Just went back to rewatch BD. I can't agree with you on this. But I'm just a dumb horn player.

This is a great show and the ballad of the year!
Is it just me, or did it sound overblown and out of tune tonight?

Maybe it's already planned, maybe not, but I wish there was more to the solid color props, door, stages whatever. Like I wish the squiggly cut out design was painted on them or something
When they move them later in the show during the percussion feature, they are formed into the famous Manet cutout called "The Snail". They have to be those solids to work
