  1. In semis, a declared Class A has beaten an Open Class corps every year since 2004. Although I do believe that often times those Open Class corps have been under the 65 person max for Class A, but have not declared. In Finals, it has not happened.
  2. The Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps is currently welcoming applicants for the positions of Percussion Caption Head and Brass Caption Head. The right people for these positions will: collaborate as part of the team crafting the 2009 production, lead the membership through rehearsals and performances for the 2009 season (January-August), educate their section on the technical aspects of their caption, and help maintain the efficient, positive atmosphere that is the Govenaires. While the organization has welcomed it's recent competitive success, The Govie Philosophy values quality performance, audience entertainment, and an enjoyable member experience as paramount to our organizational health. If you are interested in applying for either of these positions, please send a letter of application describing your interest and qualifications for the position, as well as your resume to director@govenaires.org. Applications due October 10, 2008. Please direct all questions/inquiries to director@govenaires.org.
  3. Way to go MBI!! Couldn't be happier for you guys!
  4. Please point us to this cornucopia of of sponsorships and huge discounts, endorsements, and trade ins. Seems like we missed that boat. And while there are good arguments from both possibilities in this, I'll take 10th in open every time.
  5. Why so pessimistic? We like to think half full. b**bs
  6. Sadly, from what I've heard, the new field will most likely not be ready. We'll have to wait until next year to hold the Expo there.
  7. Just to clarify - these pix are courtesy a few other great Govies, I was preoccupied at the time. Thanks Angie and Cari!!
  8. I think the rule is a poor way to judge a performing corps. If number alone must be used the number is too high. That being said, it is what it is for now, and all you can do is hope for more in the future. But... Regardless of the rule - don't let it be anything that would stop you from going to Finals. Plan on it. Put it on your schedule today. Don't say "We might." Say "We are." And if the chips stack up that you don't have enough people to perform a field show, then put together a Minicorps, 15 solos, 3 ensembles, and a Chorus and have the time of your life at I&E, then have a ball watching two days of competition on the field, hanging in the lot listening to warm ups, and lurking in Souvie Row. Watch it all, check out the Alumni show, be a part of the weekend. Doing so will ensure that the folks who you've spent so much effort recruiting will be envigorated and want to go again next year. Starting out by saying "We might go" sounds far too defeatist to me, Charge forward knowing that it's where you want to go, whatever performing opportunity presents itself. Push your members into performing and let the bug catch them as it has you. The trip could make the difference in the future of the corps - on the field or not - it will be a moment that cements the group together and starts building the kind of program that you want to have.
  9. No, he's on trumprano. He's in the front of the line there tan jacket - you can't see his horn. We're pleased as pie to have him around. Yamaha Tubas - Super Sweet. Chrome Tubas - Better than nothing at all.
  10. Of course we'll forgive you for missing the victory concert, those lot concerts are something nobody want to miss. Now missing Class A Finals... that's another story.
  11. *cue the Stevie Nicks* Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies... ^0^ ^0^ b**bs b**bs :sshh: :sshh: :P
  12. This is awesome. Lust is one of the best tunes I think we've played. I can't wait to put it back on the field with new arrangers making it even better. Can't wait!
  13. I, for one, welcome our new DCP Overlords.
  14. Camping at Pettibone. Only days until the Tremendous invasion.
  15. Remember you need not be an Alumnus of Tremendous Blast to join, this corps is for everyone. And you will have a ball. More than one +20 year vet of drum corps has said that there experience with Tremendous was the most fun they've ever had in corps, so what's holding you back? B)
  16. The song is "Show Me the Way to go Home" and has been a Govie Favorite for many years. There's at least two verses, but the main/first verse goes - (more or less, I pulled this off the net, and play while the singing goes on so I'm not the best lyric source.) :) - "Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and wanna go to bed, I had a little drink about an hour ago, And it went right to my head. No matter where I roam, O'r land or sea or foam, You'll always hear me singin' this song, Show me the way to go home." As to the website - That's a host issue that has arisen, and I'm still waiting on some response from the support group. Stay tuned, the Govenaires world is still great, but for the moment (hopefully a short lived one) the site is down.
  17. Yep, the Drum Corps Spy shirts are in, as well as the Mistress Kelli inspired Rockstar Hoodies. ^0^ And some more mundane things like the first annual Govenaire Quilt Raffle - handmade by one of the biggest Govenaires Fans ever! There's a few more items on the way to round out the line, but it's all looking good. Thanks to all the folks who have helped out with orders so far b**bs , each one puts us a few miles closer to DCA!
  18. We've got the 2005 souvie line filled out for the Govies, and they're all available online for your purchase! The 2005 show shirt is there along with our classic Rockstar logo on a girlie hoodie, and some other styles also. Check em all out at -- The Govenaires Souvenir Stand
  19. For a fantastic Bari solo check out the Govies at DCA. Ryan Shirk blasts out a solo through Night in Tunisia that's fantastic. This kid is just awesome on the Baritone! Tone, power and range. He's been the principal bari soloist for the Govies for a few years now.
