Yeah baby ....followed by Slaughter in 75, Talk about 2 trademarks. Though 72 and 73 Anahiem were equally as awesome. One that always floored me was Osage in maybe 74 or 75....can't recall it but it always got my attention when I heard it.

Yeah spit on , thrown at and called everything but a white man. There were still Imperials, Vanguard, Guardsmen, Regiment and various others around who were still hating from the beatins theytook across the decades prior to the 70's. Add to that the eastern corps who saw the rise of the midwest in the early 60's with Cavaliers leading the way and there was some real disdain for ChiCavs. Guys who aged out of Blessed Sac still marching with Muchs? I loved the Muchs and after 73and 74 was loving 75. But with success comes responsibility and no more than a pro basebal players with a urine cup full of steroid metabolites is tolerated should be those guys who are in their mid 20's and still marching be. When the proof that was incontrovertable came the proper notice was given. The violent backlash from the East was purely HATE in nature...a mere 3 years after the Combine of the Midwest/West joined the UOJC in the east to form DCI. Cavaliers were hated on several different levels back then. But Z is right....No FEAR!

Agreed . Hoffman already had proventhat he could do the military thing and be good. Taking the Bridgemen over the edge was a challenge. Ask the kids and the instructional staff involved inthe 70's changeover. I think they will tell you it was not all about connecting. They were trying to be competitive. THeir drumline was quite outspoken about their talent and competitive fire. I know guys on the marching staff and they are about as competitive as anyone in the activity. St Andrews was one of my favorite corps when they were in Cadet unis. I listened to the soprano lines over and over on the old Fleetwood recordings. I did not really like the bananas and who they became but they were who they were and were successful at reinventing the corps in a different light. Anyone who does not think they were trying very hard to win and tries to convince us that they were only trying to thrill the audience is selling the staff and kids way short. THey were very entertaining but they also hated to "tick". As far as the creative juices...those may have eminated from somewhere we don't really understand...or ever want to be

It is all perspective. When you are going to school on the Lakeshore campus of Loyola and your friend says to come drinking in Rosemont....you are like "I am not going all the way out to the burbs". I have heard kids at Ridgewood High (across Harlem Ave) from the City Limit say they were "going to Chicago" when they were visiting their Grammie 10 blocks east. On the other hand I have friends in Indy who tell me their kid lives in Chicago....and the place they live is Sycamore. Pretty funny stuff. Rockpatch is not Chicago to any of us who have had to drive it regularly, neither is Elgin. Ifg I were staying in Rosemont I would tell my friends in Indy " I am going up to Chicago this weekend" but my friends that are Chicago Police and Fire could not live in Rosemont because it is NOT Chicago. After we moved to Park Ridge the only place we were the Choacgo Cavaliers anymore was in the WOrld Open announcers mind.....and those long time east caost fans that still yell GO GO CHAAAAACAAAAGOOOOO!!! Perspective...... b**bs

But I have been calling them PHANTOM since I was introduced to them by an old timer in 1971. Why would I change now? We do call the scouts Madison after all........as opposed to Racine. But, of course, all my friends from PHANTOM have corrected me for 30 years. I am a slow learner.

Black Sheilds also feilded competitive color guards in the winter. FOr some reason i think I remember they were based in Batavia I too am surprised no one got to queen city earlier. They were entertaining as several members eschewed the bus and arrived on their Harleys. If I remember correctly, Atchisons came out of that corpsbefore migrating to Madison... Golden Lancers/Miami Valley and EmVeEls were one and the same depending on who was trying to take ownerships of equipment and name at the time.

parking sux as usual at Madison THe bleachers are painful and the 3 holstiens sitting in our row should have bought a 5 for 3 package instead of making the other folks in the row "make do". The Stadium Club did a wonderful job hosting but 2 am is just too #### early for last call. allowing one corps to deviate from the prescribed entrance and exit panders to bad behaviour and ensures more will happen in the future. Good lessons for the kids to learn and using those lessons will pay off handsomely as they try to do the same when they enter the workforce. :sshh:

I agree. WHen we saw them at Oswego....a little less than impressed the first show out of the gate. Many good things but tdid not have the anticipationa nd that Championship edge...

good gawd I wore that album out! Not much left but the vinyl....Still have an orange crate full of them Fleetwood babies tucked away in a nice cool closet. Get them out every once in a while for reference.

I remember the Bluewater Buccs.....nice to have a ton of folks with great access to facts and history. Nice JOB.

How disrespectful...any 5 shows in "DCI" history? There was life and drum corps prior to DCI...those of us who were moved by those shows regretfully inform you that some of the most emotional and memorable moments came long before Don Warren and Jim JOnes' famous bathroom conversation that started DCI> the short list 72 Kingsmen 74 Kingsmen 69 Troopers o2 Cavaliers 04 Cavaliers Sorry that 4 of those shows are in the DCI era but there were some awesome corps when the VFW or AL were "THE" shows.
