  1. "The Ascent" + Richard Strauss = Alpine Symphony? Love that piece. The "Sunrise" and "At the Summit" movements are, in terms of the brass parts alone, awesome.

  3. I remember a couple in the Boston Crusaders got engaged after retreat in 2001.
  4. I heard Phantom is doing a show about cooked spaghetti. The idea is to have all curvalinear drill forms, finally dispelling the "I am marching Phantom cause I like straight lines" tune.
  5. The East Pennsboro High School Color Guard is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill instructional positions for the 2009 competitive indoor season. East Pennsboro High School is located in Enola, PA, in close proximity to Harrisburg, Carlisle, York, and Lancaster. Prior performance and/or teaching experience is preferable. Interested candidates should contact Indoor Guard Director Jen Vaughn at jen_c_vaughn@yahoo.com or high school band director Andrew Williams at awilliams@epasd.org as soon as possible. Please pass this message on to anyone you know who may be interested! Feel free to visit our website at www.eastpennband.org.
  6. Avoid the trap of putting "pictures" in the drill. Not every drill set you write needs to be a pretty picture - in fact, most of them probably won't be. If you get your hands on Pyware, use the Morph tool, at least at first. It forces you to move and manipulate the forms around. If you get in the habit of using the shape tools (Curve, Arc, Line, Block, etc) too much... you'll end up striving more for pretty pictures in the drill than FUNCTIONAL forms.
  7. I loved performing in that stadium, but I agree, housing wasn't exactly optimal. I remember the school where we were housed, and being told not to leave the school grounds, at all.
  8. Wait, wait... I have THE answer. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "March" from Symphonic Metamorphosis. Hindemith. End of discussion.
  9. Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.
  10. 1-3 are in a different league from 4-9, for me anyway: 1. 2008 Spartacus 2. 2005 Rhapsody 3. 2003 Harmonic Journey 4. 2006 Faust 5. 2007 On Air 6. 2001 Virtuoso 7. 2000 Masters of Mystique 8. 2002 Heroic Sketches 9. 2004 Apasionada GO SOX! BEAT T.B.!
  11. I bought stuff from our own souvie truck, random stuff on our free day in Chicago, and junk food.
  12. My guess is that you were somewhere near Lower Dauphin High School (between Harrisburg and Hershey in PA), because their marching band is known as "The Big Blue Band from Falcon Land" since their school mascot is a Falcon.
  13. After watching countless hours of DCI videos in high school, I went to DCI East in 1999 in Allentown. I was at Bluecoats auditioning a few months later.
  14. I just wanna say that I've really, really enjoyed reading this thread. As someone who never saw Star live, but worshiped the videos (particularly of '93), it's been great to read these stories and get some history on the transition from Star to Brass Theater to Blast. Thank you for sharing your memories, heartbreaking as they might be. I could read about this all day.
  15. Wow. This thread is hilarious - I can't stop laughing over some of the food descriptions!
