  1. Well Elphie ... I must have been sitting next or near to you because that's where I watched most of the show from ... I remember the Yankee Rebels coming closet to the sideline ... was surprised with Reading's win ... it was a GREAT atmosphere in an "old style" HS Stadium ... similar to Longbrook Park for the Barnum and Hedges for the WO in 64 ... good memories ... too bad I can't remember who you are ... LOL ...
  2. Yup ... after solid campaigns in 64, 65 and 66, the influx of CT Royal Lancers upon their demise was the piece of the puzzle Genero, Luedee, Condon and Woods needed ... really solidified all sections into Championship form ...
  3. Okay ... now for the 1967 Finals scores ... 50 years ago ... TODAY! Sunday September 3, 1967 Bridgeport CT DCA Championships DCA Position Corps Score 1 Connecticut Hurricanes 85.583 2 Hawthorne Caballeros 83.800 3 Reading Buccaneers 82.063 4 New York Skyliners 81.623 5 Long Island Sunrisers 79.766 6 Syracuse Brigadiers 77.883 7 Rochester Crusaders 77.500 8 Yankee Rebels 76.883 9 Archer-Epler Musketeers 68.300 10 Bonnie Scots 62.933
  4. No Canucks at the 67 DCA in Bridgeport ... four in 68 when it moved to Rochester ...
  5. If I'm not mistaken, the 67 DCA Prelims was the first time Sun had beaten Sky in its history ... the year prior (66 DCA) they outpointed Hawthorne for the first time ... :-)
  6. Sunday September 3, 1967 Bridgeport CT DCA Championships Prelims DCA Position Corps Score 1 Connecticut Hurricanes 81.716 2 Hawthorne Caballeros 80.216 3 Reading Buccaneers 80.050 4 Long Island Sunrisers 78.333 5 Syracuse Brigadiers 77.763 6 New York Skyliners 77.330 7 Yankee Rebels 76.783 8 Rochester Crusaders 75.850 9 Archer-Epler Musketeers 69.053 10 Bonnie Scots 68.833
  7. Need some help ... I have Apple TV and links to Hulu and Netflix ... how do I get access to FloMarching through these channels? I signed up for a FloMarching account but, have no clue to see what's offered for the DCA weekend ... and I'm not going to spring for the $50 fee if I'm technically locked out from viewing it on a big screen TV ... Thanks for any input/instructions/guidance ... Andy "technically challenged" Lisko
  8. I distinctly remember a photo that appeared in DCN where a Judge got caught in the middle of "the Box" as it collapsed, holding his clipboard high above his head ... a true classic!
  9. My bad ... and my most humble apology ... I definitely got confused with all the show/no show activity in these threads ... hope everything works out for everyone ...
  10. Hmmm ... Sun abandoned the show? ... I thought C2 was the culprit here ...
  11. So then, in my HOF, would be someone who you are familiar with from bygone days ... Chris Ruge, Jr. was Director of the Bpt PAL Cadets from 65-68 ... a WWII Veteran, who faced death, dug his own grave, and then was liberated by Gen. George Patton the night before he and his comrades-in-arms were to be executed ... fascinating ... returned home ... contributed to the 1946 baby boom, and became involved with D&B corps in the form of the Bridgeport Troopers (Bunny Hop and all) and this start-up Jr. corps sponsored by the Bpt PAL and the Harry Condon AL Post #11 (a place which itself could be enshrined in a DC HOF!) ... Chris started out the first several years as a Quartermaster, and like so many from that era, elevated up the ranks to the position of Director at the time the PAL was being recognized nationally ... his mantra with kids was simple ... 1) Treat kids like adults ... 2) When they start to act like adults, treat them like kids ... 3) Repeat #1 ... he always had the perfect sense of timing to reel in egos, let the horses out of the barn, let us learn from out mistakes ... and constantly prepare youth for the future ... Personally, he gave me a shot as a teenager to write and instruct the drum line along side of this horn guy named Hy Drietzer ... I am forever in his debt for the confidence he displayed and instilled in me ... Chris passed away far too early at the age of 56 ... I was with him a few nights before his death watching a heavyweight at the German Club ... his cigar smoking swagger fully intact ... treating me like a kid and adult all in the same breath ... His PAL corps won numerous State titles, made finals at the WO in 63,64,65 ... VFW Finals in 65 and 67 ... an invite to the CYO nats in 67 and 68 ... as well as Championships for the Yankee and Northeast Circuit ... a wonderful run for inner-city corps from 57-68 ... Hope this is what you had in mind ... and, you're right ... there many "Little People" (as Pepe used to call them) who deserve accolades for their contributions to the growth of Drum Corps youth ...
  12. Well, I'll be Dorisi ... didn't you used to sell pots and pans in college? LOL
  13. But ... staying home to practice is exactly what hostrauser said is the reason ... so we weren't assuming too much based on that comment ... and the "fines" talked about were a reference to the past in DCA and a question of if they still existed ...
  14. It used to as far as I remember, unless the pull out was due to things not under the corps control (like Sky's truck and equipment mishap) ...
  15. Holy Moly! ... did this thread ever take a left turn!
  16. I think the more amazing story is how MBI was able to keep this story our of DC headlines through the off-season, allowing them to be focused on preparing a show for a smaller corps ... kudos to them ... many top flight corps have faced the dilemma of diminished #'s - quickly sometimes ... takes time to till the soil and get a new crop ... or corps in this case ... Good Luck to them whatever their numbers are ... :-)
  17. Interesting question - do I have to exclude those who are already "in" a HOF?
  18. Most likely Ken Norman ... he always said Tony S could find ya a few tenths here and there if ya needed them. :-)
  19. Sorry "W" ... no sop mouthpiece in a bari - just some very talented horn players on Bari and FH ... that was an old Genero trick with the Hurcs in the early 60's ... :-)
  20. Try almost all last season Chuck ... you still in Siberia?
  21. The first Mount Carmel "preview" show was held in 1969 ... I was there with Sky ... it was a most festive event for both the corps and the fans ... the corps got to see each other and check out their wares ... plus ... perform in a relaxed atmosphere, where the only competition was for fan (and peer) approval ... a chance to get over the jitters and get he kinks out ... 1972 saw two "pre" Field Shows ... Mount Carmel and Ithaca ... both exhibitions ... both fan filled ... one in the evening (PA) and one in the afternoon (NY) ... complete with the show, after-party, pretty good brawl in Ithaca ... an escort outta town ... every corps was pretty well primed for the season opener in Hamden CT (Hurc's show) the next weekend both years ... So ... we're talking 48 years ago that this concept was instituted - and LOVED by all ... I don't understand all the rhetoric ... :-)
  22. One cannot discount the fact that a major portion of their instructional team (Emmons, Megan, Sanford) shifted over to BD during that period - no?
  23. It was amazing how uniquely distinctive Hy's arrangements of Aquarius were for Sky and you in 69 ... Same original score as a base yet totally different in feel while playing to the strengths of each hornline ... an amazing feat by an amazing arranger
