  1. According to their website, Hy didn't arrive in Skokie until 64 (Luck Be a Lady Tonight) ... everyone looked on with great anticipation as the Vanguard's busses pulled up ... but, they looked quite young and were weary of the trip in from the Midwest ... and ... without the penalty, Sac beat us by 10+ ... so ... no cigar that night ... and ... Garfield and Hawthorne always stacked their shows with judges who were former members ... just the way things were ... :-)
  2. I remember when coming within 9 points of BS was a moral victory in 63 for my little corps ... they really were the Golden Robots that year ... too bad they and Chicago never hooked up that year at Nats ... I believe it was the only year in the 60's that they did not go head-to-head ... :-)
  3. Try contacting Donny Allen or Tony Convertito directly ... they run the BHOF ... contact info should be on their website ...

  5. First time I ever me Fran Haring was at a show in Dover, NJ (I believe) ... he was announcing and I handed him a bunch of raffle tickets for a DCA trip Sky's Alumni was running and told him to "pick a winner" ... I don't think he even knew who I was ... and probably still doesn't !!!!! ... LOL ... :-)
  6. As I recall, the Hurcs used to practice @ Sacred Heart several years ago learning charts in their classrooms - is that part f their new Assoc with SH?
  7. Here's what I've read so far: 4/29 - Reilly's show 4/29 - CT Alumni show - Seymour, CT 5/13 - Buc's show - Elverson, PA You basically have to visit the Alumni Corps sites and wade through their schedules ...not sure when/where the BHOF I&E shows are this year ... none posted on their site yet. :-)
  8. Me Mudder ... told me "Go to practice wit yer brudder" ... ... and that was 1958 ... :-)
  9. >>We used to pick up the New Year's Day parade on a Philly TV station from time to time. The reception wasn't great where we lived in central NJ... it often involved the old "aluminum foil on the antenna" thing to try for a better signal. I love Mummers bands. But trying to explain them to people who are not from the Philly/NJ area... not easy. LOL<< In, CT, the NY Metro stations showed the Macy's NYC parade on NBC ... on CBS, they flipped between four parades: Toronto, Detroit, Philly and NYC ... quite a mix of performers ... Regarding mummers, they became so popular in Bridgeport's Barnum Festival parade (4th of July) that they had their own Field Competition in 1964 ... quite a spectacle ... :-)
  10. Roosevelt Stadium ... Jersey City ... host to the Preview, Dream, WO, VFW ... long gone, but memories of the roar of 20,000+ fans year in and year out are vivid
  11. Met my wife in the Bridgeport PAL ... started dating in 68 ... married in 72 ... hit 44 yrs last month ... there were at least a dozen couples that got married in the corps and the majority of them lasted a long, long time .... :-)
  12. Hmmm ... were the Midwest Combine and the UOEDC considered "circuits"?
  13. Jrs: Yankee Circuit Greater NY Circuit Penn Jersey Tri-State Eastern States Mayflower Northeastern Garden State Long Island
  14. Cool ... little known that he was headed to the Hurcs before they had a change in top management ... :-)
  15. Concert numbers went by the wayside when "stop time" became a negative due the "perpetual motion" and demand by the judging community for shorter shows, faster speeds and more complex drills ... made sense to me since M&M was always the highest component of the total score (not sure if that still applies to "visual" on current sheets) ... may as well keep moving ... :-)
  16. I think the Florida Wave may be having a reincarnation
  17. I would imagine that BD's Alumni Assn would be your best source (if they have one)
  18. Selden is available on Fleetwood's Brass by Night and the 1964 WO Albums ... also, several Stetson D Richmond records from the Penn Jersey Championships and most likely the Dream as well ... I believe DCW offers them all
  19. >>Watching The Weather Channel yesterday and seeing Jim Cantore in a motorized boat, navigating what appeared to be rivers and streams, but were actually streets and highways in North Carolina...wow.<< Funny story ... they interviewed a guy on one of the stations down here and asked when he was going to evacuate ... he said: "It's time to leave when that guy Cantore shows up in yer neighborhood ... then ya know ya gotta go"! :-)
  20. Hoping all DC people in FL are okay in the aftermath of last night's storm ... our area in Port St lucie held up pretty well ... minimal tree damage and no loss of power ... wishing those further to the North well in Daytona, JAX, GA, NC and SC ... gonna be a long day ...
  21. Maybe the penalties should be more severe for incomplete shows rather than just timing penalties ... is there anything written on the sheets for presentations that have obvious incomplete segments or omissions per section? ... just curious ... what is the current "short" show timing penalty? ... for that matter, what are the current DCA show timing requirements? Thanks in advance, :-)
  22. Sheba was penned for the PAL by none other than Rip Burnett from Archie ... Mancha for the Bucs by Genero ... 67 saw a multitude of corps play La Mancha in 67 (Boston, Skokie Vanguard, Santa Clara and more), which probably took away from the quality of Genero's arrangement ... good OTL for the Buc's ... PCP attempted to resurrect it circa 2008-9, but I don't think it ever hit the field ... :-)
  23. >>Faves "Off The Line": 1961: St Catherine's Queensmen "Dancing Serenade" & Blessed Sacraments "Vanished Army" 1963 & 1964: St Kevins Emerald Knights "Voice of the Guns". Honorable mentions: 1961: Garfield Cadets "French National March". 1964: Racine Kilties: "Scotland the Brave" 1965: Chicago Royal Airs: "Ballyhoo March" & Chicago Cavaliers: "Bully" Elphaba WWW<< Tsk ... Tsk Elphie ... no Ushers in The Mezzanine by Bpt PAL (65-66) or Granada by St. Raphael's (62)?
