A Great Article on The Cadets

Don’t forget the costs involved in lawyering up and going to court. Knew someone who took a plea bargain (suspended sentence) instead of going to trial. Court costs making it hard to keep the house and family fed -

Know some of the Erie people and was getting the newsletter. All I could think was “#### there goes another corps in Erie”. (Competed against Thunderbirds in the 70s) -

Would have been nice if I didn’t have to click twice to find out wth corps this is about…. -
I was thinking if people were looking for Bingo on certain night(s) and there already is a place, they would be Bingoing there already. Not like a new place is going to create a full hall of new Bingo fans. Unless Bingo halls in the area can’t handle the present demand and people are being turned away. Caveat is I don’t know how many places there are in SCVs area. Harrisburg had lot of little games run by groups. Then a big money business came in and tried to run the little ones out of business. During that mess PA made bingo halls non-smoking which took a huge bite out of customer base. No idea of current situation And of course bigger pots = less profits which is SCVs weak point

Hmm show could tie in with SCV being back on the field. Reminded of Rochester Crusaders show “We Go On” after coming back after some time off in 2000s.

Sorry for the off topic folks but maybe a warning about trying to guess “hot” trends. There was a disco version of Star Wars music by Meeco that was a big seller. His next album was “Time Machine” which was promoted heavily but deservedly bombed big time. 1978 we played the title track from the album. No one bought the album so no one knew wth we were playing. And 2nd Baris had a repeatedly played note that BADLY needed a third valve. 😱

Thats interesting and fun to perform. Had one song we hated so much someone asked Hershman “hey Larry can we play again next year” just to see the reaction. 🤯

So when I hit 55 Kris told me I was too old to shovel our long sidewalk. (Never by a house on a curve or corner. 😫). So I was told to buy a snowblower (yes dear 😃). Just got in using it and realized this past Thanksgiving weekend 50 years ago I first joined a corps. 🤮 And 2 more months it will be 50 years since that corps folded. (Walking up and down a sidewalk and your mind tends to wander)

Oh wait we’re going to worry about the members? 😈 (Really kidding as I bring up the same point on other social media.) Ok we’re going to play something from before you were born. Can’t you just feel the history. 🥱🥱🥱

Reminds me of Fiddler on the Roof but…. How many fans in the stands would know about SCVs history of Fiddler. IOW how far back does the fans memory go?
-
All right I’ll post it here (ducks 🙄). Hope SCV is open with the members and potential members from here on out with what is going on behind the scenes. Today anyone interested can use google and social media to find (right or wrong) info on finances, safety, etc. Not like my day when only way I knew about red ink was from riding with two BoD members and listening. Members spend lot of money to join so deserve to hear from the horses mouth. Was member of a corps when they came back twice so interested how SCV handles this extra baggage

Coupling this with previous info (please correct if wrong). SCV is an approved non-profit BUT the paperwork for the Bingo business is so FUBAR the state can’t figure out if it’s being run correctly. Hmmm, can CA shut down the Bingo if not resolved? edit: I screwed up and thought this was from the state. Now see it’s from the auditor. Big difference 🤦♂️

lol, yeah off topic but in a nice way. With exception of SC were the other corps Vanguard or Vanguards? 🤔 Gets confusing looking at old scores. And kind of 😈 Long Island Sunrisers were called “Santa Flushing Vanguard” because of their music(little ahead of usual Sr music at the time) and look.

And Des Plaines Vanguard had a Senior corps for a few years in the mid 1980s. Saw them at DCA prelims.
