  1. Don’t even want to get near Mechanicsburg that day. Went once years back. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band was headlining and sister was a fan. They did “Eddie and the Cruisers” soundtrack and… uh… guess other things. As for local groups no longer sponsoring corps shows. They were smart and looked for better fundraisers instead of “tradition”. Just like PBS
  2. Mid 70s used to go to local shows sponsored by ambulance/fire companies, local chamber of commerce and the ever popular “Bicentennial Commitee”. Costs (mainly gas) went up and corps needed bigger payouts. Basically killed shows with lesser Red Carpet Association corps as tickets were cheap and so was prize money. Higher ticket price meant less audience so the sponsors found something more profitable to run. On the other hand I don’t miss drives to PA hard coal country (Frackville.. bah)
  3. Father in law passed and his buddy from the local VFW asked the older daughter if she wanted military honors. She said yes but the guy didn’t explain the ceremony to her. Came time to hand her the flag she just sat there with a shocked look on her face. Felt sorry for her as I knew it was going to happen. Then there was my dad (Korea vet) who hardly discussed his service time. We asked if he wanted military honors when it was his time. “You do and I’ll come back and haunt your ###”. “Ok we will take that as a no”. However we had the local American Legion include his name in their annual Post Everlasting ceremony
  4. My age also and I try to keep moving and do things to keep the mind going. (Taking classical guitar lessons and older than most students parents. 😆) And plenty of comedy and Looney Tune type DVDs to keep laughing.
  5. Lol we had 2 or 3 people from my high school in our senior corps. HS assistant band director was with another corps. My corps thought he was recruiting for his corps at the school. Finally had to tell them “band director is retiring soon and he wants the job. He doesn’t want to screw up his chances so he never mentions drum corps”. My buddy and I didn’t even know he was with another corps until we saw him at DCA 😳
  6. lol my favorite is the guy who told me I never marched “real drum corps” because we didn’t have the start and finish lines. Next year will be 50 years 🤮 since my first season. and to go with contraguard05: Don’t Panic 😆 on topic: learning some things here.. thanks
  7. Sounds like my conspiracy spouting nephew “I read on the internet”. I hear that and start looking for someone else to talk to… or the nearest door… outside
  8. Years ago started a thread here and was told by some that they only had one year that they could do drum corps. Reasons mainly due to expense and school/life constraints. Going out for multiple corps would make sense.
  9. Yeah sometimes there are posts that read like the Weekly World News (home of Batboy and “out there” stuff written as a laugh). This one had me shaking my head…
  10. I asked where and when did he get his info so I don’t go after the same source. 😈😈😈😈
  11. That would be wasting key strokes and doubt he has any anecdotal info anyway. One of those “my mind is made up so don’t bother me with facts” types. The claim sounded pretty outrageous so thought I’d share. Besides I’m still waiting for someone to say how DCI is responsible for corps that disbanded before 1972 or DCAs decline over the decades. (Because DCI is responsible for everything bad 🤪)
  12. Just kept thinking of when I donated to a members dues twice and didn’t get a reply that check was received. Corps website said there would be a response (forget exact wording). I emailed to check they got the money and RB hisself answered (does he delegate anything?). Basically blamed the member and gave me their personal email to work it out. Taking no responsibility was bad enough but giving an email address without permission is a personal security no no.
  13. Wow, just got told by someone that the majority of potential DCI corps members audition for multiple corps (at $500 a crack) so they can chase a ring. Will leave out the “not so complimentary” terms but sounds far fetched to me. But was told “if you don’t believe me ask around “ so here we are. And yes I asked and was told “majority”.
  14. Sad part is none of this would help their paperwork fubar
  15. Ok we had a disconnect, I was talking about Pioneer in Wl
  16. Just gave me the creeps… must have been van going to Finals. Everyone else talking and looking around. There RB is… just.. looking… straight… ahead with a blank look. Like he was above acknowledging the people around him or wth?
  17. If someone is willing to take over will RB be willing to give up the reins….
  18. Interesting as saw RB one year at Annapolis for DCA getting into the VIP van to go to the show. Other people talking to each other and he just sat there with a blank look staring ahead. 🤔
  19. Always thought an abnormal physiology major could learn a lot from watching games. Best part was the paper bingo run few times a night. Pad of paper bingo “cards” used for the current game only. Sold cheap and could buy as many as they wanted. Had to run around to sell them and you got “NOT YOU! I never win with you” and “I want 6, 2 from the top, 2 from the middle and 2 from the bottom”. And you BETTER get it right 🤬. Helped out pre smoking ban. Drive home in winter with car windows open and 10 degrees. Surprised cops never pulled over thinking I had smoked weed and was airing out the car. Smelled like a Marlboro until I could shower. 🤮
  20. Notice that $3 mil came in 2019. IOW pre Covid and lockdowns.
  21. So roughly $15k a night. Our corps had bingo for a few years until no smoking laws clobbered all bingo in the state. Roughly how many people show up for a game?
  22. Ok I didn’t see or forgot the “assistance… of DCI” part that shows DCI was involved. And yeah nothing done until it came out publicly. Which was a big part of the problem
  23. I meant how do they justify to the state when applying for NP. Doubt even CA would accept “cuz we wanna run bingo” as a reason.
  24. Figured DCI corps could use the educational reasoning. Wasn’t sure about Sound Sport (thought they could be all age).
