  1. Keith believe me, if anything happened to DC in Rochester I'd never say "I told you so". I'd be too upset at the loss. Believe the intent of the original post was to alert people to the fact that a person deeply involved with the Hershy fiasco was moving to Rochesters new stadium. My posts (except for the last one) was to get people to think of what might happen after 2006 DCA. As I posted on RAMD, Rochester in 2006 is not very different than Hershey around 1986. About that time Hershey didn't hold too many outdoor concerts but later scheduled more so they would become "The premier concert site in the Mid-State" (HERCOS words). I don't see any reason why the same couldn't happen at Rochester in the coming years with the result of pushing out smaller Stadium venues. And this line in the article makes me think that the Pataek folks want to follows Hersheys example "We initially only planned on three concerts (annually), but with Matthew on board, I think we'll most likely do more," DuRoss said." Again the Destinys Child concert (well more $$$$ hosting Destinys Child) caused HERCO to break the verbal contract for the corps show. And my last post.... I was highly PO'ed on the phrase "getting on their good side". Totally unrealistic with what happened at Hershey last year. PS - Who cares about the NHL ^0^ Boo Rochester Americans.... Yeah Hershey Bears
  2. <Deleting Highly PO'ed post - JimF> Considering what happened last year, what would YOU suggest? And remember you have to "tangle" with groups like HERCO to get the event site. At Hershey the show sponsor, DCA corps and DCI corps all took a hit in the wallet. Don Achinson was upset enough to testify against HERCO via phone. DCA was upset enough to pull Hershey off the possible sites for 2006 DCA. Were they wrong for not staying on HERCOs "good side"? You call it proding and poking. I call it making sure people responsible for DC shows are warned to be very careful considering what has happened in the past.
  3. :P :P I practice in the cellar and I tell the dog "Get ready to hide in the closet, I'm gonna make some noise" After I'm done I have to get a treat to coax her out. Thanks for the ideas folks, will probably talk to my hunting bro in law as he works construction and knows how to hang things on the wall securely. I'm worried if whatever I use isn't nailed to the studs everything will come down one night. Putting weight on plasterboard only doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Sound be an interesting display. Within a week or two I'll have a pair of 1 valve Tenor (small bell) Baris, a 1 valve Bass (full size bell) Bari and debating on replating and hanging my 2 valve King that got me back into doing corps.
  4. Have two older horns with two more on the way (c'mon mail service). Tonight my wife came up with an interesting question: "Besides playing, what the #### are you going to do with them???" My answer was a very definite: "Ahhhhh ####" *shrug* Thinking of displaying them like my brother in law does with his hobby. Only problem is I don't know of a good way to do this. And I sure as crap ain't going to drive nails thru them like Applebys/Bennigans/Cracker Barrel. Any ideas or what others have done would be appreciated. PS - My brother in law likes to hunt. And my wife likes the ida of displaying horns in the house a heck of a lot better than bear skins and deer and antelope heads on the wall. "At least horns don't look back at you".
  5. Also corps might be getting better because there are less corps so only the best of the best marchers get to make the available spots. This is the reverse of some sports fans gripe that the average team talent has gone down due to over expension in NHL and MLB.
  6. Nah - Unless they're using different screen names to troll.
  7. "You get a Coke!!!!" - Oh man memories (flashbacks) of Bills Tavern "back in the day".... :sshh:
  8. Was pretty sure Connor was under age, that's why I didn't say what I would be buying for him. :P Joined corps at 16 and on the way home few times my rides would stop for a cold one. Still remember the bartender taking orders "Whadda have... Whadda have.." (Looks at me) "YOU get a coke...". And Glory kicked in another flashback. Around 1982 Westshoremen had a siren sound at the start of their first drum solo. DCA didn't allow sirens to be used but Westshore never took a penalty. Reason was the "siren"s name was Marty and he also played sop. (Talk about finding a loophole.)
  9. Yeah, good day. Said Hi to Fran and got a hug from Barb. :) Ooops, forgot Fran reads this board ^0^ PS - Looked at the Archie DVD and can't place the 3rd sop soloist from last year. Picked out Jeff W and Ritchie P but can't place the other guy (white dude with greying hair). Know everyone else here plays drums but any idea....
  10. Agreed - Walked away for ten years - didn't hurt me one bit. Actually did some productive (non-musical) things in the meantime.
  11. Not worried about DCA 2006 but the future Keith. Years ago Hershey had maybe 1 or 2 outside concerts a year and in the last 10-15 years built up to one or so a month in the nice weather season. This was done as not only as a money maker but to make Hershey a "premier" (HERCOs words) concert location. Guess they're premier now as they hosted the flippin' Rolling Stones. Unfortuantely the stadium is also used by smaller groups, even smaller than the corps show. And these smaller groups don't stand a chance when they don't have a signed contract and the difference in money to be made is huge. And I'm not just thinking about DCA in Rochester. Wouldn't the Crusaders, Empire Statesmen and Patriots want to have shows in that stadium? Asking 'cause I have no idea as I haven't been in Rochester since '79 at Aquinas(sp). I'm glad the city and county thinks enough of DCA to host the Champs. But would they have a part in a local corps show.
  12. Not so irresponsible if you live in our area and followed what happened in the local papers. As far as who DCA decides to do business with, IMO DCA made clear who they didn't want to deal with when Hershey was removed from consideration for this years Championships. PS - I know Rochester is one of the cities most closely liked to Senior corps and DCA. But I want to point up that the DC group that lost out in Hershey were no slouches either. And this killed shows at a site that had hosted since the early 1950s. No disrepect to Allen and his capable crew, but please go over everything with a fine toothed comb and signed as soon as possible. I STILL can't believe Drum Corps is dead at Hershey.
  13. Welcome to the fun and thanks for taking the time to let us know your thoughts for the site.
  14. "We initially only planned on three concerts (annually), but with Matthew on board, I think we'll most likely do more," DuRoss said. Hershey's two venues hosted 35 concerts (13 outdoors) last year, Ford said. "It's going to take some time to get there, but through the relationships the (Rhinos) have and that I have in the industry, we'll start to build it here," Ford said. <end quote> Big question to me is if Rhino management will allow HERCOs "verbal contract" BS which killed the Hershey show and chance at DCA in Chocolatetown. DCA, David B or whoever should get contracts signed in blood or move it to somewhere else. Wonder what Gil Silvas and Don Achinsons thoughts are about now. Don't the Rochester Patriots host a home show?
  15. Ker-bump Busy Saturday night on DCP - this went down to page 4 on Active Topics in about 11 hours...
  16. Shooting myself in the foot on my big props bit but remembered another one in the Sr ranks. 1983(4?) L'Odyssee from Quebec used a freakin' spaceship in their show. Can't remember if it sat backfield at the beginning or was built during the show. Anyway, part way thru the show the ENTIRE corps (except for DM) goes in the thing and out of sight of the crowd. 30 seconds or so of nothing on the field and "Close Encounters" type sounds coming out of the spaceship. Then the corps comes out in totally different uniforms. Great GE moment that made up for 30 seconds of ZZZZZZ. OK, there was fun during the 30 seconds of spaceship on an empty field. Watching the M&M judges with "WTF do we do about this" looks on their faces and people yelling "Judge IT". Blows up my previous point but too good to forget.
  17. I've been selling my old DC vinyl on eBay and haven't posted about it on DCP. But now I have something up that, judging by peoples sigs, some DCPers might be very interested in. It's a poster commemorating BDs DCI Championships in 1976 and 1977. Not sure how many still exist so I don't want anyone to miss this chance if they want one. I know if anyone was selling any items from my old corps I'd want to hear about it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
  18. Good point on the changes to the bugles. From one who was there at the time, there was a LOT of heartburn on going to 2 upright valves from piston/rotor. Most of it was that MB and DC horns looked alike unless you got close enough to count valves. FWIW, I was only listing changes in the last few years. I walked away from DC for a decade and didn't see any shows from about 1993-2002. And almost all the DCI shows I have seen since ?????? are from what gets shown on TV *sigh* So I stand corrected on what Star and VK did with props. (Kind of remember VK with golf clubs but that's it.) Empire Statesmen and Skyliners have been using big backdrops in their shows and I had those backdrops in mind (plus Cadets door). I wasn;t thinking about props small enough to be picked up by one peson but I didn't say it at the time. Oh yeah, my "discussion group" is for people who disagree with me about DC but can keep it civil. This ol' boy needs to keep up to date with what's going on today. C'mon down Matt
  19. :) The man gets it. Adding you to my DC discussion group with MikeD. And the important part is - I'm buying
  20. Got interupted before I finished, here's rest. I'm in the middle of this issue so both sides posts can look bad to me. FWIW, I don't like amps and big ###ed props but I'm not willing to say DC=MB. BUT, for the last few years the line has definitely gotten closer, if not blurred, between the two. In concrete ways: 1) Use of same key in MB and DC 2) Use of props like Cadets door, Empires backdrops, etc 3) Amps In abstract ways: 1) I play trumpet/tuba in Drum Corps - 'nuff said 2) "The only difference between DC and MB is the insensity or the experience". Have seen this posted a few times and if that's the only difference that can be seen.. WOW 3) Someone can talk about bringing WWs in DC and people take it seriously. I can see why some people think that DC is turning/has turned into MB as they have gotten closer and closer. And Connor I was just having fun as I enjoying hearing your thoughts. Even thought we don't always agree.
  21. Well I don't watch MB shows so I'll take your word for it Conner :P KIDDING except for not watching band shows. Seriously, as a mental exercise I wondered what it would look like if everytime someone made a pro-amp post someone would respond with "OK you won, bringing it up again is pointless". Yeah, sounded weird to me but have sounds pretty close to some ani-amp post responses. We will sell no Whine before it's time...... IT'S TIME ^0^
  22. Cool, didn't know what happened in 1980. Then again I worked rotating shifts back then and have NO memory of that time. :( Like I said I disagree with a lot of GHs proposals but probably would enjoy talking them out. He doesn't seem to be shy about expressing himself. :P
