  1. Years ago started a thread here and was told by some that they only had one year that they could do drum corps. Reasons mainly due to expense and school/life constraints. Going out for multiple corps would make sense.
  2. Yeah sometimes there are posts that read like the Weekly World News (home of Batboy and “out there” stuff written as a laugh). This one had me shaking my head…
  3. I asked where and when did he get his info so I don’t go after the same source. 😈😈😈😈
  4. That would be wasting key strokes and doubt he has any anecdotal info anyway. One of those “my mind is made up so don’t bother me with facts” types. The claim sounded pretty outrageous so thought I’d share. Besides I’m still waiting for someone to say how DCI is responsible for corps that disbanded before 1972 or DCAs decline over the decades. (Because DCI is responsible for everything bad 🤪)
  5. Just kept thinking of when I donated to a members dues twice and didn’t get a reply that check was received. Corps website said there would be a response (forget exact wording). I emailed to check they got the money and RB hisself answered (does he delegate anything?). Basically blamed the member and gave me their personal email to work it out. Taking no responsibility was bad enough but giving an email address without permission is a personal security no no.
  6. Wow, just got told by someone that the majority of potential DCI corps members audition for multiple corps (at $500 a crack) so they can chase a ring. Will leave out the “not so complimentary” terms but sounds far fetched to me. But was told “if you don’t believe me ask around “ so here we are. And yes I asked and was told “majority”.
  7. Sad part is none of this would help their paperwork fubar
  8. Ok we had a disconnect, I was talking about Pioneer in Wl
  9. Just gave me the creeps… must have been van going to Finals. Everyone else talking and looking around. There RB is… just.. looking… straight… ahead with a blank look. Like he was above acknowledging the people around him or wth?
  10. If someone is willing to take over will RB be willing to give up the reins….
  11. Interesting as saw RB one year at Annapolis for DCA getting into the VIP van to go to the show. Other people talking to each other and he just sat there with a blank look staring ahead. 🤔
  12. Always thought an abnormal physiology major could learn a lot from watching games. Best part was the paper bingo run few times a night. Pad of paper bingo “cards” used for the current game only. Sold cheap and could buy as many as they wanted. Had to run around to sell them and you got “NOT YOU! I never win with you” and “I want 6, 2 from the top, 2 from the middle and 2 from the bottom”. And you BETTER get it right 🤬. Helped out pre smoking ban. Drive home in winter with car windows open and 10 degrees. Surprised cops never pulled over thinking I had smoked weed and was airing out the car. Smelled like a Marlboro until I could shower. 🤮
  13. Notice that $3 mil came in 2019. IOW pre Covid and lockdowns.
  14. So roughly $15k a night. Our corps had bingo for a few years until no smoking laws clobbered all bingo in the state. Roughly how many people show up for a game?
  15. Ok I didn’t see or forgot the “assistance… of DCI” part that shows DCI was involved. And yeah nothing done until it came out publicly. Which was a big part of the problem
  16. I meant how do they justify to the state when applying for NP. Doubt even CA would accept “cuz we wanna run bingo” as a reason.
  17. Figured DCI corps could use the educational reasoning. Wasn’t sure about Sound Sport (thought they could be all age).
  18. What is the justification for SCV or Sound Sport corps to be non-profit? My car club had non- profit status based on by laws (or was it business statement) that the club provided educational support for the old car activity. Then the state finally asked wth do they do that was educational. Turns out it wasn’t that much so… so long non profit status until the club forked over more $$$. Oh yeah giving $$$ to the parent organization didn’t really count (oops)
  19. Thought Spirit took themselves out for the season so they (new management?) could get their act together. Don’t remember DCI getting involved
  20. Sounds close to what I saw and heard. With the caveat that general members weren’t told much. And the mantra of “this is the way we’ve always done it” (as laws and times change 🤦‍♂️)
  21. When my old car group lost its non profit the concern I heard was taxes (this is PA). Group holds an annual national car show each October which is almost the only way they make money. State taking their cut must have hurt.
  22. Only response that counts will be from the state IMO
  23. That’s their plan anyway. But each time the state shoots down their paperwork (again) just makes the time needed to get it together shorter and shorter. Any legal experts know the impact of going on tour as a for profit organization? Keeping track of different state taxes on souvenir sales gotta be a headache.
  24. No board minutes available? 🤔 with all the screw ups my old car club did even they wouldn’t dare not give board meeting minutes at next general meeting or newsletter. (Or available upon request.)
  25. Woof… which pretty much sums up this whole fiasco.
