  1. Girl sitting in front of Bill "Woodsie" Marshall is Carol Beggy, also from Finleyville. Her older sister, Patti, was the dancer during "The Music and the Mirror" concert number in '76/'77 and her brother, Mickey, was a snare...
  2. That's why I asked -- apparently it was meant "died when they were in the top bracket"? Rather narrow view, IMO, but I'm not here to pick nits...too hard to see w/o bifocals :lookaround:/>
  3. Just curious -- what do you consider DCI's top pay bracket? Top 12? Top 5? At a minimum, 2-7 fits this criterion...
  4. "Friends and Neighbors" - Music from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood with voiceover clips from Home Improvement... "Don't Worry, Be Hoppy" - Using Madison's "Reframed" show as a basis, a mashup of YEA-approved 'greatest hits' interspersed throughout Bobby McFerrin's megahit... "To B-Movie or not To B-Movie" - Music selections from Manos - Hands of Fate, Invasion U.S.A. and Plan 9 From Outer Space, uniforms styled after Sean Connery's Zardoz outfit...
  5. Horn player here who absolutely appreciated the hi/lo voicing
  6. There's one here in Akron...33rd Annual...2 shows: Akron's Tuba Christmas It's quite the party, and both shows are typically packed...
  7. Back then I was part of the "Give 'em hell, Finleyville" fan base (OK, my parents were, I was 9) but going to the US Open back then was a great drum corps experience... Regarding the recording, I don't believe I have the retreat, but I'm pretty sure my dad has the show, complete with them trooping the stands.
  8. My post (hopefully) came across as a person asking a question regarding the truth and not a "shoot the messenger" accusation/finger point (and for the record, I helped to offset your "red" ranking)... You, unfortunately, find yourself as the visual target/whipping boy since you actually try to provide information to the best of your ability (in contrast to DCI's until recent silence on the topic). I commend you for that and personally hope you continue to do so; we're all better for your efforts.
  9. At least right now, the wording looks virtually identical, except for the audio: From the BluRay order page: Preorder the 2012 World Championship Blu-Ray Today! Item scheduled to ship in late November. • High Camera Option • DTS HD Master Audio Option • Featuring Top 12 World Championship Corps: • Blue Devils • Carolina Crown • Phantom Regiment • The Cadets • Santa Clara Vanguard • Bluecoats • Boston Crusaders • The Cavaliers • Madison Scouts • Blue Knights • Spirit of Atlanta • Crossmen From the DVD order page: Preorder the 2012 World Championship Blu-Ray Today! Item scheduled to ship in late November. • High Camera Option • Featuring Top 12 World Championship Corps: • Blue Devils • Carolina Crown • Phantom Regiment • The Cadets • Santa Clara Vanguard • Bluecoats • Boston Crusaders • The Cavaliers • Madison Scouts • Blue Knights • Spirit of Atlanta • Crossmen I do find it interesting that both pages say "Blu-Ray" in the first sentence...
  10. On this page: BluRay-DVD Specs It says that Volume 1 of both the BluRay and DVDs will have high-camera and multi-camera presentations...
  11. Mike, Do you know if DCI has any plans to provide updates on this situation via their website? They are certainly quick on the draw on adding sponsor ads, announcing ticket availability, etc., but unless you actually follow the discussions here or go to Fan Network and see what is/isn't available on a seemingly daily basis, the general fan base has NO IDEA of WTH is going on. The ads for the DVDs and Blu Rays make NO MENTION of the fact that the actual content you receive may be significantly different from what was presented on the field. Not quite on the up and up, IMO...
  12. In 1979 (according to the link, complete with small, grainy pics) the Royal Crusader snare line made "carriers" out of plexiglas sheets that they warmed up in an oven then molded over their shoulders (holes were cut for their heads, of course)...they had metal rods attached to the front to support the drums... FRC drummer info
  13. True, but that doesn't help for those who would like to watch, correct? (not fully up to speed on what you get from Fan Network)
  14. So it will become even more important in the weeks following Finals to frantically scour "that web site" and download all those unauthorized full show postings before they get taken down...just in case ... Sigh...
  15. +1...I can sleep through thunderstorms, babies crying (despite my wife trying to cure me of this), Boy Scout campouts, on the floor in front of the TV/fireplace, you name it... We didn't have luggage racks, so we had people sleeping on the seats, between the seats on the floor and down the center aisle -- certain parts of the floor (over the exhaust) would get rather warm and the vets knew not to take those seats...
  16. Anyone remember or still have one of these? They had sticky "feet" so you could put them on your dashboard, fridge, etc. Mine looks like he got hit in the head one too many times with a rifle during a "Rockford File"...
  17. Most? Maybe, maybe not. Back to the other point which you chose not to address - and i don't mind the mix of mid- and close-up shots - but as wvu80 pointed out: making a change every 8 seconds? Why does it have to be broadcast like it's an 'American Idol' performance? Why ignore the buildup, flow and feel of the field presentation for a chop and bop broadcast? You say "buy the DVDs" for a single vantage point viewing: why not market the DVDs as "having viewing options and vantage points not available to those in attendance (or during the live broadcast)"? Don't get me wrong, overall I loved the theater presentation. But there were more than "occasional" big drill/visual impact moves that were missed in favor of guard/pit closeups. You can still have 'interesting television' by having varying camera angles but decrease the frequency of changes and present the show as it was meant to be viewed.
  18. Agreed on the overall quality, and your statement that there is room for critique and improvement. I'm not sure that network quality or NFL-level coverage is what those that are 'critiquing' are looking for. Drum corps doesn't need high and low goal line, side line, line of scrimmage, etc. cameras. But....does it need continual, quick view changes? Does it need to try and feel like a music video? I would make the supposition that those who watch the live feeds, theater broadcast, etc. do so b/c they can't be there and are looking to the broadcasts to give them the YOU ARE THERE feel. If you're at the show you aren't continually running around to get a high cam view followed by a field level closeup of the pit etc. etc. etc. By making camera changes so quickly and continuously, you lose the sense of flow and overall production that is so important to the viewer, whether in the stands or in front of a screen.
  19. In this particular instance, I think the questions that come to the minds of many are: Why did the designers have to portray the alien, bird-like species so outlandishly (in the same way Cavies last year were outlandish)? Why did the designers have to use recorded/synth music for so long at the beginning of the show? As was stated earlier, "more" is the name of the game, and "more" has been leading, more often than not, to the OP's definition of "silly." FWIW, I loved the last half of the show. Agreed on the Jetson thing, and the original Star Trek blurb - why?
  20. Jumping in the Way Back Machine...the shows were shortened by skipping the concert number.
  21. Kevin, Yes I was at Montrose Movies - sat a row in front of a couple old Bluecoat/Cadet alums. One of the best parts of the evening was telling the 10+ group of teenagers several rows in front of us to "Shut. Up." just before SCV... Work in Cuyahoga Heights, live near Stan Hywet Hall...
