  1. Won’t be the last. Sad. As others have mentioned, the arms race started years ago and set this in motion. I highly suspect that the end is near for the activity.
  2. Yes, I was thinking this the other day. I originally thought cavies, but not sure. Back in the 70’s.
  3. I personally think it would have looked better and carried a little tradition if the snake or serpent came over the top right, shoulder down and around at the left hip then back up around the back. With the Star in the traditional location left breast
  4. So funny that when the Cadet redo music and themes from the past, everyone jumps on board and gives kudo's and stands up" good music is good music", other do it and its called old school or rehashing the past.LOL
  5. Seems very clear to me that drum corps has turned in to a battle of the deisgners with little to do with M & M. Who can place the most crap on the field, stagecoaches, trampolines, slides, scaffolding, ramps, run, slide ..........etc. Which is proven by the ridiculous amount of GE tallied for scores. Bunch of designer geeks coming up with ideas to take away the effect of marching and technique of drum corps . Why not cirque de solei it and have folks hanging from drapes off the rafters? Telling stories is good, when your concentrating on the performers telling the story through music and motion, not gimmicks. To me there needs to be more of a balance..ie Cadet West Side Story, SCV- Phantom of the Opera, Spartacus.....Great story telling, music, execution both musically and marching without all the distraction of trying to understand what these so called "designers" intend. I think its crap that you have to come on DCP for someone to explain what the so called "designers "want you to interpret from their so called creative minds. Great corps ( place name here) cannot score or move up because their show design doesn't have enough crap on the field like a slide or scaffolding or because you don't have to think about what these masterminded designer intend. Me personally, I love execution and sound.
  6. Thus the issue with this system. Its a designers competition, not a DBC competition. You could take the best MM of all top 25 corps and they would not score well due to the design. Overemphasis on theme, story...blah, blah. I remember years ago (late 90s) people talked about (on this board) having to have a story or theme to covey was not necessary. I thinks its a flaw Just my 2 cents.
  7. On 6/19 there was a 4.1 pt spread from BD and coats, then in one day, they close that spread by 3 pts....? C'mon. We all know judges look at what others corps are doing, no matter if they are in n,s e or west. Are you telling me suddenly Bd and scv went flat and coats did so much better in less than 24 hrs? That does not fit logic. its apparently clear they see scores from other performances and adjust there scoring for parity among the top 4-5
  8. I think it's obvious that when the initial scores came out from California, the judges ( dci) in the east, went oops, we need to catch up. How else do you qualify cc,cadets, bloo going up ( 5 PT to cc) in one night? ..very, very obvious
  9. Could someone please explain music ensemble category for me? this is the one area SCV is really hurting in. Thanks
  10. Fans are speaking up in a more realistic way.....they're leaving the activity as mentioned by OP. I check in every once in a while to see if things have straightened out. But , it continues to degrade itself. It is now become nothing more than a designers contest using synths, precorded mumble. If Im not a music major or band geek, I don't fit. Oh, and America ' o Canada ROCKS
  11. Disagree. If you drop a piece of equipment you should be deducted. There is nothing subjective about dropping. Either you did or didn't
  12. As I have been saying, its no longer a drum corps competition. This is purely a competition of designers.
  13. I totally agree with your analysis. I never thought increasing the size of aa individual corps would lead to anything but disaster. More mouths to feed, equipment, gas, housing issues, uniforms, transportation....... Lets add all the additional costs for synths, amps, pit banjos, speakers, guitars...... Writing was on the wall years ago. He made this mess (I believe he did this intentionally to lessen the number of corps out there so he could get his own circuit), let him walk
