  1. I thought that it was Joe Bananas of Boston area fame in disguise. He would show up to BAC rehearsals, EMASS corps rehearsals and various high school marching band rehearsals. He always had his famous question at the ready: "How many horns you got?" I last saw him in the late 90's / early 2000's, however I have read of sightings at Boston area high school band rehearsals since then. With the number of rehearsals that he has watched over the years, he would most likely be way more than qualified to judge. Perhaps that is why so many world class corps increased their brass numbers this year......to make Joe happy and obtain a higher score. 🤔
  2. Great fundraising idea here.... I hope that they are promoting it enough.... Cavaliers - Mesquite, TX - Air Conditioned viewing
  3. I really wish that the Spartans could have extended their trip south for one more show. It would have been nice to have seen them against some additional open class corps - especially as the northeast has thinned out so much.
  4. The show has not been promoted very well locally. I am in Statesboro at least one day a week for work and have not seen any flyers, etc.
  5. I think that it will be more like this: 1) The Braintree Braves 2) Kips Bay Kinght Club 3) The Spirit of Newark International Division: 1) The Edmonton Strutters 2) The Bandettes 3) Contemporary Youth Ensemble Spirit of Disney Award Winner: Delta Brigade
  6. The weather is not looking too good for this one right now. I live an hour away from Statesboro in Savannah and we are already experiencing heavy winds and scattered thunderstorms with downpours. Local weather report
  7. With the sad events of today, it's important to remember that most of these corps' are going to come up short of their planned fundraising goals. The average parade can pay upwards of $5,000 in appearance fees; yet all afternoon parades in the Chicagoland area were cancelled; which is appropriate considering the circumstances. Please keep these corps in mind when you are passing by donation jars at the souvie trailers or when considering which corps' fuel funds to give to, as I am sure that in addition to the mental trauma that their memberships must be going through, each of these corps just lost a large pay day. Music City Drum & Bugle Corps The Colt Cadets / The Colts Drum & Bugle Corps The Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps
  8. I live in Savannah and my step-son lives in Melbourne, FL, so I often make runs down the coast. Buc-cee's in Daytona typically runs cheaper than the one in Saint Augustine (usually they try to be competitive with Sam's Club across the Street). Around here, regular ranges between $4.09 to $4.69 today. The best advise that I can give: plan your trip wisely and use the gasbuddy app.
  9. Curious to see the theme / costuming this year. I noticed in the April camp clips that were posted on the Corp's Facebook that they actually appear to be using the blue drums shown in the clip announcing the Pearl/Adams deal. It would seem odd to have that as a base color if using drum slips - piano black is the usual standard for Pearl as a basis for On2 slip covers. I don't think that I could handle seeing Boston wearing blue though...... Unless the tie in is "True Blue Crusaders".
  10. My most memorable thing about 1993 (my rookie year) was doing the Drum Corps South tour for two weeks in early July with Star (still in their 1992 red uniforms, minus the add-ons), and then the total shock when I saw them again in Jackson and they had a whole new look. The show presented very differently in the reds vs. the creams.
  11. Keep in mind - there were a number of corps that have undertaken large capital projects.... think new food trucks. Something like cancelling the season could absolutley decimate these organizations from a financing standpoint - in addition to losing a number of their fundraisers (DCI income, bingo, etc). Between the past two years, new food trucks were (being) purchased by: Boston Crusaders Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Blue Stars There may be more that I am not aware of off-hand at the moment.... Please keep things like this in mind when you are debating where to direct any potential donations, as well as the groups that we know have financial struggles. And most importantly, do not forget your open class corps.... most of these groups are still funded like local community groups, and losing any income at all could be the end for many of them.
  12. I'm at the theater in Savannah, GA. VERY low turnout so fsr....
  13. If that BFHS is where I think that it is, your high school band director (Mr. Taylor) would be a great person to talk to about this. He is a phenomonal brass instructor!!
  14. "The Heights"? Possibly Alumni Stadium at Boston College? I know that a number of shows were held there back in the day.

  16. Today's Nashua Telegraph article........... http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.d...9844/0/NEWSBLOG It sounds like they may be able to continue under all new management. I loved the part about the judge questioning the leasing of tires for the busses.
  17. My best thoughts and wishes are with David, his entire family and his entire drum corps family this holiday season.
  18. This option was explored in the spring of 2004 before the smoking ban officially kicked in and was enforced. However, as the management team was looking into that option, the Massachusetts State Lottery sent out a letter to all bingo operators in the state that if you tried to turn your bingo into a private club, The Lottery would revoke your license to operate bingo. In addition, we organized meetings with the press, the local state representatives and other bingo operators as to what could be done to continue the works done by the various non-profits. Many of the invited bingo operators did not even show up. Within a year, the state had lost over half of the licensed bingos in the state. At this point, Bingo is a losing proposition in Massacusets.
  19. Having been in Michigan City in 2005 for the Great Lakes Open, I can say that it is one of the best cities to host a drum corps show that I have ever been to. Mike and his staff do a great job and the city is extremely welcoming. Our police escort in 2005 included the chief of police who let the members even pose for pictures on his motorcycle. Congrats to DCI for choosing a host city that will welcome all of the corps with open arms!!!
  20. I just stumbled upon this. The guy bought it, replaced the engine and started to convert it to a motorhome. Madison Bus
  21. I found a supposed picture of one of the snares on another site. Here's the link. It looks like a Pearl FFX with the stabilizers and MTS strainer from a Yamaha and the bottom strainer of a Dynasty.
  22. All the best to Harry. I've enjoyed many conversasions with him over the years. Here's to a speedy recovery!!!
  23. If you're thinking about buying the Kanstul, most (if not all) of the corps that march Kanstul "G" lines use the powerbore horn.
