  1. I really hope the guard can grab that trophy on Saturday. I started in '03 when the new staff came to rebuild Crown. To see Michael Townsend's choreo become fully realized and cleaned to near perfection is such an amazing thing to witness this season.
  2. I currently live in Paris and luckily, I get to stay up late to watch this because it's a holiday tomorrow. Anyways, it's quite meta to be watching Phantom right now. I just wish these voice overs weren't so... cliché.
  3. And the exposure is already showing with over 260,000 views in 3 days - all for just laundry detergent. And if you look through the comments and top comments, there's discussion about where the drumline's from. Even if it's not "drum corps level" at least it's getting noticed and talked about by people outside the drum corps world. We all know drum corps could use some extra fan love these days!
  4. I work as a creative/copywriter in the san francisco ad industry and came across this spot in my usual email updates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P6Qwppw-3U Anyway, can anyone confirm that these drummers and guard members are BD members? Just wondering based on one of the comments on the video. If so... way freakin' cool! I love the quirky story – incorporates some nice drum corps in a pretty hip video (even though it's just cleaning supplies).
  5. Not a bad idea to create a fun app that lets fans in on the judging - of course it wouldn't count toward the real scores. Just an interactive way to get the fans involved a bit more. I love reading people's predictions on scores, especially when they're at the show. Once again to be very explicit, I'm saying this would be a fun game for fans to participate in without it actually affecting the scores. Just a nice way to let a fan's opinion be validated(or debated) by the judge's opinion. I work as a creative at a pretty well known digital shop and we're always creating experiences that get the consumer involved more than just a traditional campaign. We created this fun app for the UEFA Champions league for Heineken: Now imagine if fans could download a DCI Fantasy Judging app and get awarded titles and badges based on how similar their scores are with real ones - even get a shout out at the end of each competition along with some cool prizes. DCI is like any professional sport where tons of passionate fans exist, and I just don't think they've come up with innovative ways to let us fans show off/vent our passion for the activity.
  6. Compared to "videos" I've seen from their week off - tonight's run wasn't as good. Lots of little ticks here and there with timing. I think a week off of competition affects the guard the most to be honest. However, those "videos" prove that Crown can achieve what's given to them enough to put them ahead of the pack. The beauty of the work there is that when it's executed correctly it's top notch (2007 finals) and of course, can be the complete opposite on a bad day - that's the double edged sword of having a very trick-y yet musically-minded book. This wasn't a bad day, but not their best comparatively speaking. They definitely have one of the strongest guards I've ever seen (I know, I know. I marched there in the early years of the new staff, but this really isn't a biased opinion). Do I agree with their placement? No. But silver lining, it's going to push them harder to prove why 6th place was wrong. Ain't nothing wrong with some humble pie. p.s. as far as Herbert "carrying" the show, sure, he has some major rock star moments, but there are just as many rocking ensemble moments (ie flag block feature in paint it black, opening flag statement, the entire weapon line!) and don't forget that blonde girl who tosses the rifle while doing some crazy baton-like acrobats underneath it.
  7. I think if you went a little more abstract and did a silk screen look on a nice american apparel tshirt it could actually be pretty cool and cost efficient. Reminds me of a Paul Frank silk screen tuxedo shirt I saw once.
  8. With Crown's amazing reputation and staff now set in stone and Adam Sage's huge following... I can only imagine what auditions are going to be like for Crown's guard this year! Already can't wait to see them next season!
  9. I hear ya whitney! (i think this is you.. haha) Looking in retrospect it's hard to believe us starting in 2003 with everyone taking a chance with a revamped crown and fighting to get our name back into finals... to this! Our excitement around this time was making the night show in San Antonio! Thanks everyone for celebrating another historic moment!
