Please dress in comfortable clothes and sneakers. Guard please wear gear that you can move well in. We will be prepping for our appearance in the 2016 Galveston Mardi Gras parade on January 30th. More information on that performance to be released soon. Music will be provided at rehearsal on November 28th. Out of towners that want to participate in the Mardi Gras parade are more than welcome and encouraged, and music can be emailed to you. Please feel free to share this event with anyone that you feel may be interested in this meet and greet or the Mardi Gras performance in January. Look forward to seeing everyone there as we bring all-age corps back to the Bayou City!

  3. I don't know if anyone has heard on this forum, but it was posted on Rene' Conway's Facebook page last night that he died of a massive heart attack in his sleep yesterday in Indonesia. More information concerning Rene's passing can be found on his Facebook page. I knew Rene' when he was a grad assistant at the University of Houston working with their drumline. He left his mark everywhere he went and will be missed by many.
  4. We're working hard to make that happen! There's a lot of interest down here, we just need to pull it all together.
  5. If anybody is hanging out on the north side of Houston, TX tomorrow night and you want to talk some all-age drum corps over some wings and a beverage, come up to Wolfie's in the Woodlands and find out more about Houston's newest all-age drum corps... Texas Encorps! Hope to see ya there!!!
  6. Remember to "Like" the Texas Encorps Facebook page and check back often for news updates as we head toward January 2013. Help spead the word about Texas Encorps!!
  7. Throwing in my own 2 cents...sometimes the "pit soloist" isn't done for effect but because the person performing may either 1)not have the time that season to commit to all the rehearsals and learning a spot, which allows him/her to be able to participate in the performance or 2) the person may be of the age that it's easier for them to perform from the pit. I know if I reach that stage in life that I'm (heaven forbid) not able to march, I hope the corps I'm in allows me to perform from the pit!
  8. There was a thread on this a few months ago, but I'm not able to find it now, and never found out if the issue had been decided... Has there been a decision made regarding the location of Mini Corps Championships at the Stadium yet...whether it will be indoors, i.e. Rochester-esque, or outside on the stadium field. Any info will be helpful. Thanks!
  9. If we can put the bodies and the money together to get up there, that is a goal for GCS this year. We'll keep everybody up to date as the Spring progresses!
  10. Gulf Coast Sound has made it through the holidays and is back at work every Friday night at Lone Star College-North Harris campus in Houston, Texas from 7:00-10:00 pm. GCS is offered as a continuing education class through the Lone Star College-North Harris campus and we are looking for new members in our hornline and drumline. Tuition for the Spring semester class is $84.00. If you live in the Houston/Southeast Texas area and have that "itch" to play again, come check us out on Friday nights! We are working toward a late Spring performance at LSC-NH and are looking to participate in the DCA Minicorps Championships in Annapolis, MD over Labor Day Weekend if we have the numbers to make it work. NOW is the time if you want to get involved in "all age" drum corps in Texas! Maps and directions to rehearsal can be found on the GCS website: www.gulfcoastsound.org Hope to see YOU soon!!!
  11. Ok, funny moment... Standing in front of some of the Prime Time Brass guys after the Canadian National Anthem was sung at Mini Corps Championships... "Drop the Puck!! Drop the Puck!!!" Classic...Thanks Mark and guys, see you soon!
  12. Drop us a line down in Houston and let us know what you have in mind: www.gulfcoastsound.org info@gulfcoastsound.org
  13. Fran should be doing Finals tomorrow. Heard that from him at Mini Corps last night.
  14. Better bring a video recorder, it's gonna be incredible!
  15. Next Gulf Coast Sound rehearsal is this Saturday, April 16 from 10:00-6:00 at Lone Star College-North Harris campus. We will have hornline and guard on campus this week. Drums are up in Dayton,OH for WGI Nationals. Starting on April 30 we'll have the FULL CORPS at camp...it's time to get EXCITED!!! We'll continue to work on 2011 show music this weekend. Our standstill at the American Legion went very well. We received a lot of good comments from the members listening to us. We also saw a couple new faces last camp and people are talking up GCS to their friends to come out and join...looking for a few new faces this week. We still have plenty of room in the hornline, drumline/pit and colorguard for anyone who wants to march this summer. information about GCS and directions/maps to camp can be found on the corps website: www.gulfcoastsound.org
