  1. It's not black-and-white, just shifting that direction. I was surprised last year after hearing many tapes that the Visual Performance caption has become a field "Visual Ensemble/Guard" caption. It was extremely rare that unified marching technique or corps proper timing was EVER addressed.
  2. Yeah. I don't think anyone's saying a certain corps deserves more credit for what they do. We're all appreciative of the hard work they are putting in and their performance qualities. It's really just throwing around personal philosophical ideas and observations.
  3. I can see where he's coming from, but before everyone gets down my throat, I'm just comparing to my feelings from last year with Crown... At the beginning of last year I thought Crown stood still A LOT. It couldn't believe it. Well, by the end of the season they added, and changed, and I was COMPLETELY sold. I LOVED their show and felt the amount of variety and flow was fantastic. They have moments where they move like crazy and moments of wonderful artistry.
  4. Good point. I agree that it can be just as challenging, just in a different way. By endurance, I really meant to say cardiovascular endurance. I just know that if I was marching for 2 1/2 minutes at 200 bpm, my lungs and heart would relish the chance to mix it up and do some body work.
  5. Agreed, plus a couple of quick thoughts on the subject. I LOVE the choreography that Crown is doing. That ensemble stuff they had in Puck was fantastic and I wish I had the opportunity to do that. I know there are many arguments that make the dancing just as valid as marching, but here's a couple against it. 1) Physical endurance. Yes, mentally it's challenging and adds variety. However, I do consider it MAJOR rest time. I still love watching 93 Cadets because they never stop moving. The biggest wow factor for me is, "OMG they never stop!" 2) Hornline "dancing" is not held to the same standard as marching. You can be dirtier than a newborn diaper, but you'll still get credit. It's expected to be close to perfect to get Box 5 in marching, but as long as you're close in dancing, you're fine. With all that said, I'm REALLY excited hearing about all three shows. BEST of luck to the three C's this summer, and everyone else for that matter.

  7. I don't really understand your first question. As far as rewinding and watching in slow motion, if you watch the shows on a slow computer or an iphone it will be slow motion for you. There's also a new section on there where some people are displaying their signatures 'moves' and how to do them. Each has it's own explanation and it's called DML I think. You're right about Pedazos, he does a fantastic job and has picked up some gigs from the website. I almost got my foot in the door in Texas for drill writing. It was too late and fell through. I'm Adrian on MML. It's fun to write on there and try things out. I know I'm seriously looking to write for real within the next couple years.
  8. Here's some cool info about Texas that may persuade in the voting. - The 2005 Cadets had 7 members from the University of Texas alone. - The late 90's Cavaliers had a very high percentage of their drum line from Texas. - There's a ton of people who march in corps from Texas, can't name all of them. - We created an indoor drum corps show to compete in the talent show called "40 Acre Sound". We played a great arrangement of Malaguena with plenty of screaming trumpets and I wrote the drill. - We have played the Madison Scouts arrangements (note for note) of El Toro Caliente (1995) and Malaguena (1996). El Toro was played at The Rose Bowl. I played the solos, which were soooo much fun. - To give you an idea of the talent in the band, here's a stat about the trumpet section. Going down my line, not chair order, the first 6 players were either 2 or 3 year Texas All-State trumpet players. There were more and it's like this in most sections. - The Longhorn Band doesn't move a whole bunch (show band), but boy can they play.
  9. I can go with Pags and G. Thanks for the useful info guys! Sorry for overreacting on "devs" post. The needless badmouthing of The Cadets 01 hornline put a sour taste in my mouth from the beginning. I'll try do better next time to not exagerrate some of my own discussions.
  10. Yeah, I have to clock in on this on too. You're welcome to your own opinion and I can see that being an opinion when you have The Cadets at a possible 2nd. When you put them third though, there's something you are blatantly trying to not see. I would like to point out one thing with the brass scores that year. The Cadets and Blue Devils went head to head almost every show that year. The Cadets won brass EVERY show for almost the last month, except for Finals and Semis. Plus, when they won those shows in brass it was usually around half a point (basically, not even close). To my ears (my opinion) it's not even close to who should have won brass that year. I LOOOVE BD horn lines, but they weren't in the same ball park that year. I can feel safe putting BD 04 up over Cadets 01, but not BD 01. No way, no how.
  11. It's been a while since I've posted, but I just wanted to chime in on one thing. What is more offensive to me is all the people strongly defending the actions that took place, not the action itself. As for the Cavalier in the picture, that's offensive for sure. However, I can just blow that off to some guy who made a bad decision and needs to grow up a bit. Where I start to loose some respect for the organization as a whole is from the members and FMMs who come on here defending these actions to, "we just like to have fun". I have many friends who marched in The Cavaliers, some of them big name alumni, and have had the chance to talk with them. They are all very respectful and understand how someone could be offended by that, rather belittling my opinions by telling me to get over it. Some have even seen the picture and apologized to me directly without me bringing it up. There have been a number on here that have owned up and shown their apologies for their corps actions. However, there have been so many blowing this off, including some of their big names. That is were I start to loose faith in how much character The Cavaliers have as an organization. I KNOW that members of SCV, Phantom, or The Cadets would ALL feel embarrassed about this situation. They have learned how to respect their competitors and more importantly, themselves. I can keep the benefit of the doubt in this situation as I hold many Cavalier members in deep respect. However, the number of people blindly defending this topic with such self-confidence is quite disturbing. That is what is most offensive to me. Edited to clear up one sentence.
  12. Yes, of course it's different. What I'm trying to say is that they are about as similar as you can get between two different techniques. BigSnareline said earlier that he doesn't like straight leg. I would assume that when that is said it usually clumps a group of techniques together, BD's being one of them. After that he said he enjoyed BD's technique, as anyone should. :) What it seems the he really should've said was, "I don't like how The Cadets march". That's all fine and dandy too as it's easy to understand where he's coming from without even asking.
  13. Honestly, you can get into all the technicalities of it if you want. When it comes down to it, they are extremely similar and pretty close to the same technique. This coming from a guy who's had many professional discussions with people from each camp trying to figure out how best to teach it. A key point that I picked up on is that the main difference is that they are taught with a different emphasis...and that the Blue Devils usually look better (more relaxed) doing it.
