  1. Your comment wasn't taken as any criticism at all, sorry if the reply came across that way-----it wasn't intended as such. More-so the reply was to offer clarity of how the tune actually nicely fit into the show....as being a Celtic folk song a couple decades well before it was ever incorporated into the soundtrack and rearranged for a non Celtic related movie.
  2. In the DCA program book itself (and all season long at all performances--DCA, DCI and otherwise), it plainly list the tune as The Gael, and the composer. The main title of the movie track "Last of the Mohicans" was a "lift" of the original tune, The Gael, a Celtic folk song. A Gael is a person of Celtic heritage, and in particular in relation to Scotland, a highlander ...hence the title of the show, "Gael Storm". From the program books (and announcer read spiel sheet) at every performance throughout the 2016 season and from the show description submitted to judges prior to the season's start------: "GAEL STORM---A musical and visual journey uniting clans to form country--Scotland. Follow the 2016 Kilties as the storm is weathered, the rain offers cleansing hope and the rainbow leads to the unity of clear and blue skies." Followed by the list of musical selections and composers. .............it is what it is.
  3. If I recall, the drawing for shows themselves are determined by score at the championships and what 5 corps block a corps' score falls into--no matter what class; thus it is possible to have a blend of Open and Class A---rather than divided by classes at the season shows.
  4. Many present DCI corps have a vast part (many up to a majority) of their membership that are already legal adults, (i.e. over the age of 18 up to 22) among a blended age ensemble. Do we boot them too? What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.
  5. The "all-age" (or one could say "multi-generational) concept is the norm on the world wide stage, the USA is actually the exception with having a stronger public emphasis on the junior corps (under 21 years old) over the "all-age" format. Globally, for the most part, a corps restricted to lower ages are considered cadet corps. Thus, the "all-age" format globally is not unusual, but rather normal-----whereas the junior corps strong emphasis in the USA, is the unusual.
  6. Pat, did you happen to notice the nice rainbow suddenly appear in the sky while the Kilts were performing Over the Rainbow? The fans in the stands sure did----it was at "no charge", I sense courtesy of Lothar.
  7. Hey Pat!! Sorry I'll be missing you! We were with the corps for pre-show rehearsal sessions on Friday morning to mid afternoon---then had to held back home, leaving the corps heading the other way for the Cities. Have a cold one for me at Patrick's and give Flash a big kiss from me----tongue (of course) optional.
  8. One would hope the weather conditions are better today than last evening, was not the best..........although, the show went on!!! Obviously weather certainly can have an effect on performance levels.
  9. Kilts performed last evening without electronics and Brass performed without electronics or their front ensemble.
  10. Challenging weather conditions at this evening's show, as a side-note.
  11. Brass hosted the Inver Grove Heights show this evening in the Twin Cities area; with the St. Peter show on Saturday. Two Midwest shows this weekend. Open: Brass 87.8 Govies 81.2 Class A: Kilts 72.05 Chops 68.9
  12. .......well, The Kilties have boarded their coach bus, cars, vans and trucks and heading to Minnesota for a weekend of drum corps shows!!!! For some corps, in particular DCA corps...the season is heading into the final 3 weeks before the World Championships in Rochester, NY. ........................so, this is a very good night!!!

  14. I beg to differ; had Tim turned and winked into the camera after placing the gent tlts up on the ground.....now THAT would had been a moment.
  15. Plus Open Class corps are allowed to have shorter in length shows----8 minute minimum (if I recall correctly--vrs 10 minute minimum for World Class). In short, 2 minutes less of show to clean if an Open Class corps utilizes the shorter show option.

  17. That's not a really big deal----The Kilties regularly perform without pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I don't think the bottom bass is quite this big................. http://jeffcity.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2012/02/06/Giant_Drum_Wagg_t670.jpg?b3f6a5d7692ccc373d56e40cf ................thus, should be a wonderful opportunity for the right person.
  19. That may be due to the fact there are less corps...............
  20. Kilts had guard, battery and brass missing this past weekend---real life commitments: work, school, family events (as example-wedding) for several--and illness for one. Although there is one bass drum position open, 2 color guard and 4 brass positions awaiting the "right" people.
  21. Kudos to the Kilties for moving so decisive and quickly and a HUGE thank you to our long and fast friends from the Madison Scouts and the Sound of Sun Prairie, competitive marching band, that was in exhibition this evening at Drums on Parade.. The Kilties equipment truck broke down on the Milwaukee by-pass very early this morning in route to a normal show day rehearsal block in Madison; followed by the show in Middleton later this evening---the corps quickly made things happen with a crew of two transferring as much of the basic necessary equipment to a U-Haul Box truck and making it in time to get a 2 hour rehearsal block in--with some of the vital equipment----followed by the Sound of Sun Prairie and Madison Scouts borrowing The Kilties such items as podiums, etc, etc for their performance this evening...........proving once again, this drum corps activity is something really special and we should cherish everything about it. .
  22. I may be incorrect, but I recall the adjudication process is to rank as the first priority, then rate by assigning a number. If the ranking is correct----well?
