  1. I think breaking DCI into regions would be a great idea! Northeast, South, Midwest and West
  2. My memory is still pretty good and I have been thinking of what our schedule was like in the 1970's. In the summer we did two days of rehearsal (Tuesday and Thursday). Saturday morning we would meet at the parking lot (where we practiced) load up the buses and go to the show. These shows were either in NY, PA, Ontario (Canada) sometimes OH. We'd get to the show and maybe rehearse at a field. Get dressed and do the show and then return home. It worked back then. NOw I know there were more corps and shows so today it's different. The NHL has teams put in three regions...maybe DCI and DCA can do something similar. I think the bigger issue is WHO can put on a show these days?
  3. Maybe.....Corps should bring everyone in 2 weeks before camp so that they can quarantine at the camp site. Keep track of temps daily and make sure everyone is healthy before the camp starts. Continue monitoring throughout camp and every day into the season. However, will school districts around the country allow outside groups into their facilities? If I can't have a camp in my school for 2 days for my students then my district sure won't let a drum corps come to our facility! Fauci tells the public that even if you get the vaccine you should still stay masked up until (at least 2022). So I think many school districts will say NO to outside groups using their schools AND facilities!
  4. I know I sound like Mr. Negative but just trying to be realistic.
  5. Other question ..... Will members pay additional fees to tour IF corps have to pay extra for housing (maybe in hotels)? Personally don't think that this year will be successful and any corps that does participate could lose money and potentially lose members if they get sick.
  6. So weekend drum corps may be the best way to keep the activity active until we get back to normal...if we ever will.
  7. With all that has transpired the past year...Is it possible, to save the activity, to go back to the way contests were done in the 1970's? Local/regional shows from June to end of July and then a 10-14 day tour leading up to DCI Championships. Is there still a DCI East/West/MidWest/etc? Maybe that would help
  8. I would suggest that DCI/Corps find out the extra charge school districts will charge for extra cleaners to disinfect and spray. Our district is constantly spraying after school and on weekends and I believe the costs are high.
  9. The End of DCI? Will DCI eventually give over total control to Varsity? If so, then do rules change to what THEY want or what the Corps want? My guess is that it will be ALL Varsity! DCI with $0 is probably going to hand it over right? What corps are in bed with Varsity already? Just a few question!
  10. I think going back a bit farther to 1971 as the start of the Golden Age. 1972 was an amazing US Open in all 3 classes!!!!
  11. Who do you think was the Greatest Corps Director and WHY?
  12. I had a t-shirt Blue Devils sold in the 80's Jazz....Music of the 80's! So Jazz was only good in the 1980's says BD LOL
  13. Like to add..... Charioteers...although small, they held their own back in the early DCI days. Precisionaires.... OSAGE!!! Geneseo Knights Pembroke Imperials St. Francis Sancians Beverly Cardinals Polish Falcon Cadets Blue Rock Toronto Optimists....Yes Seneca made top 12 but I'm talking the original Marquis Argonauts Greece Cadets
  14. Saves on travel but the excitement of a live competition is gone.
  15. MAYBE (and I'm not sure it was an ego thing. DCI starts up and we lose how many corps? I know St. Joe's of Batavia folded and probably because most of the members aged out (my guess). What about others?
  16. So V !ERY true!!!! I do 2 jobs at once now. When I was home teaching from March to May, I taught theory and history because we didn't have the technology to do Virtual Choir which takes a lot more time to put together besides class time
  17. I am 60, been teaching for 21 years. I am not depressed but seem to be stressed! I can't do a concert so I have to video a concert. The kids are not learning as quickly, we can't do a live Music Performance Assessment. So we just learn sight reading, some theory and sing as much as possible. It's not going to school anymore....it's going to work! Teaching face to face and also distance learning. It sucks! I hate it!!! Nothing I can do but my best!!!
  18. Bridgemen 1976 was a gutsy move to go from traditional uni's to their hip banana coats and wide brim hats. Also the style of show was so very different than any one ever saw. Add Velvet Knights with their "Cool" look and shows.
  19. Rochester Patriots did 6 sets one year in the 1980's. I think during St. Louis Blues March
  20. St. Joe's wasn't involved in DCI as the folded after the 1971 season.
