  1. I was confused......What was the drum solo that went "dum da dee da dee dee dum" on the xylophone? I guess I didn't know the name of the percussion feature. "Chump Change" was a tune on a game show right? The drum solo I was talking about was the best and I believe a chromatic run up at the end. Anyone?
  2. The Suncoast side of Florida missed it. We got some rain, which was great for my grass. My prayers are with those in Mississippi, Alabama, Lousiana and the Florida Panhandle. Enjoy the rain that is heading north and hope it will be gone for Championship weekend.
  3. was played in mid 70's....who wrote it and where was it from? Anyone?
  4. They came to the NT Open that year too. The neat part was when they arrived they had 4 bus loads and they were eating in this one area of town and were so friendly. They came off the line and I was so impressed. That year I also saw Argonne Rebels who still sounded decent.
  5. Marche Militaire Francais by St. Saens....My 9th grade band at Jamestown HS in NY played that. It's a level 5 piece. We didn't play it at the concert but should have. I remember the Music Administrator saying, "there's no way this band will play a level 5...Hahahahahaha....he ate his words!
  6. I do remember a bunch of guys got together in the 1970's because they didn't want to be ruled by the American Legion and VFW anymore. They got together and formed this drum and bugle corps organization. Just saying.... It may not be easy, but it couldn't hoit (hurt).
  7. With all the knowledge that is out there, can't we come up with a plan to assist the growth of drum and bugle corps? Everyday I read posts from extremely intelligent, drum corps-minded people. We sit here and type away....and that's it. Is there something that all of us can do to make this activity grow? Okay I opened up my mouth and started this, what about the rest of you? Chime in here.
  8. Think the weather was bad last week? Katrina on her way. Looks like we'll get a lot of rain and some strong winds. Hold on to your roofs and tree limbs! Good Luck everyone here in FL.
  9. LMAO....too funny Tom! Yea, well the only thing that changed is that I am so HAPPY (Finally) that I am bursting! (That could cause a mess...I hear a few of you out there thinking that). Anyways, it doesn't hurt to look. I remember seeing her in Marion, OH because we heard a corps practicing and it sounded pretty good and found out it was Blue Devils. She stood out a bit.
  10. No, as far as I can remember they did not come to North Tonawanda at all.
  11. Our first few trips to the US Open we stayed in Mount Vernon, OH and gave the town a standstill concert. I felt like I was in Mayberry. We stayed at the Elks club and had a great time.
  12. Any recent pic of her? She was good to look at when I was 16, what about now?
  13. Do standstills...NY - PennChampionships had a standstill Championship and since our corps was doing a field show, the Sledge Cadets (hehehehehe) St. Johnsburg Blue Sabres would win that. Our corps would faceoff against the Lakeview Shoreliners. One year St. Johnsburg did a "field show" remember that Sledge? They played "Stairway to Heaven and "The Sounds of Philadelphia" TSOP. Quite a repetoire. Parades, parades, parades......The night of the "A" Class Finals for the NT Open in 1976 had us marching a parade for like 4 miles, upon finishing we walked single file from the end of the parade to our rehearsal site at the grocery store and then single file with complete silence back to the stadium where we beat the Krescendos and Simplex Minutemen to win the "A" Class title. Remember those firemen parades, NYS Legion Convention, etc. The BIG trip to Illinois to compete against the Cavaliers, CapitolAires, Des Plaines Vanguard, Emerald Knights and not being able to make it to a show in Iowa because one bus was broke. Those were the days!\
  14. How have you been? Hard to believe it's been 20 years when I was on staff at Patriots.....now their not around :( You can email me at keith_hall@srqit.sarasota.k12.fl.us
  15. I am just going to try to remember what a season looked like for us in the 1970's. Since corps were mostly local-based, we could practice on Tuesdays and Thursday and then travel to contests on Saturday. So here is what I remember. May....Canton, OH St. Claire Shores and Riverview(?), Michigan June....3-5 Firemen parades Cleveland, OH Missisauga, Ontario July.......Oswego, NY Kitchener, Ontario North Tonawanda, NY Angola, NY Greece, NY Toronto, Ontario August....NT Open A-I Open, Butler, PA US Open, Marion, OH London, Ontario Philadelphia, PA (DCI World Championships) Add a few more parades, the NY-Penn Championships in Lackawana, NY Not a bad season back then. We did take a few days July 4th weekend to Illinois (Des Plaines, etc). How about you?

  20. To ALL members of Crusaders and Heat Wave, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you the VERY best for the upcoming championships. May you, along with all DCA corps traveling, have a safe trip to Scranton. Make the best of your rehearsal time this weekend and all next week. May you perform the very best at prelims and at finals. CRU- You have come sooooo far and I am extremely proud of each and every one of you. I still cherish my Crusader corps jacket and always will. Mike and Donny and Brian and Vinny and ALL the rest of the staff...you have done an amazing job!!!! Continue going forward in 5th gear and don't let down nor give up. I can't wait to see your name in finals. Heat Wave - I am sorry that I was not able to share this season with you. My new family means alot to me as well as my own two sons and for once in my life I made the best decision. See, since 1970 I have ALWAYS put drum corps in front of my family, friends and everything else. My step-sons dad who lives a few miles away has absolutely nothing to do with his kids. My step son is now in a rehab program and doing very well. The other day I got the biggest hug from him and he and I had a great conversation. I started to see maturity in him. Five months ago I wouldn't have believed a word he said but today I do. It will be a huge battle for him but with his Mother and I there by his side I believe he can be successful. I finally realized that a marriage and a family mean more to me than drum corps. I still love the activity, will follow it and support it but for a while I will stay away and be a family member. So.....Heatwave.....work hard, stick together, smile and believe in yourselves. I, along with many others believe in you too. YOU GO ON!!!!!
  21. I've been saying that for a few years now, here and at RAMD...is that still around?
