  1. Back in the 80's I was fortunate to contact Ken Kobold to purchase tapes of various corps. He gave me several for free while I was stationed in the Army in Germany. My favorite recordings were of my own corps I marched with in the 1970's. Sadly, Ken passed away a number of years ago and the recordings were given to DCI or DCW who put them in a "vault" somewhere and to never be heard from again. I heard "copyright" laws keep them from selling copies to fans. I know I would love to have recordings of my old corps for my own enjoyment as would probably thousands of drum corps fans around the world. So, what can we do to make this happen? Bombard DCI with letters and e-mails? Lets get the ball rolling and see if we can't open up the archives to preserve the memory of our activity.
  2. I seemed to recall I saw them when I was teaching Patriots and was watching World Open or some show I saw them at. Anyways, "I'm good" and my wife thinks so too. Hehehehehehe
  3. In 1972 and 73 we stayed at this small town in Mount Vernon, OH. Played a concert in the town square and everyone was there. I remember the night before we had a show in Bellefontaine (Beverly Cardinals, Buckeyes, Mello Dears and Marion Cadets were there. Not sure who else). It had a little Soda Shop, what a great place that I am sure is much different now 30 years later.
  4. Do you remember Russ Mikkelson with Blue Stars? He was my conducting teacher at SUNY Fredonia. Now he's at Ohio State. GREAT guy and a fantastic teacher.
  5. Just opinion folks. Don't knock someone's opinion. Just want to hear what everybody thinks. For many corps prior to 1980 shows happened on weekends. Corps like SCV, BD, Troopers, etc traveled all over to attend shows. Many smaller corps didn't have the resources so individual corps hosted shows. The days of "You come to our show, we'll come to yours" is over. That is one reason that many corps have disbanded. We can blame DCI, we can blame poor corps management, etc. Today, the best HS/College players want to march with "the big guys" and forget about the local corps (if there is any). Drum corps has improved, no question but the days of many corps are over and that is what is so sad!
  6. Take a section from any corps and make your own SUPER corps Here goes: Sopranos - Muchachos Mellophones - Crossmen Baritones - Phantom Regiment Contras - Star of Indiana Snares - SCV Multi-Toms - BD Bass Drums - Oakland Crusaders Cymbals - SCV Pit - Cadets Rifles - 27th Lancers Guard - Madison Scouts DM - Marcia Hanson, Phantom Regiment
  7. Apologies to those I didn't list Just thought I would throw this out..... What corps did you want to march with if you had the chance. Now I know that I left off the corps that are still active. Just use the ones above or add your own defunct corps.
  8. My apologies for forgetting any others. I would pick the NT Open however I loved going to Marion in the 70's
  9. I remember 1976 - Goerge Vetter Stadium in North Tonawanda, NY at the NT Open. We finished a long parade and then a short rehearsal and on to A Class competition. We had a decent corps and 38 horns, 7 snares, 24 in the guard. During retreat our name was still not mentioned and then they announced that the Krescendos were in second, we couldn't believe that we won. It was a memory I'll never forget. Prior to that we had to walk from our rehearsal site to the stadium, crossing a highway. We were so quiet all the way there. No one said, "no talking" it was just a given. The next day the director quit, we went to Philly for our first DCI and didn't make finals. Oh well, it was a great season and I'll truly remember that.
  10. Marching forever ata high leg lift....Man what a killer!

  12. I was thinking about voting for Carmine here...he was way ahead of DCI at the time with the amp comment...BUT, I will go with the enthusiastic Rita Moreno. She looked good too.
