Sleeping on the floor and lots of other things happened on that bus. I remember one night on the way home from Fulton and....well, I'd get moved...but it was a "good night"
I seem to remember:
"If You Leave Me Know....Chicago
"Wildfire".......................Michael Murphy
"The Night Chicago Died"...PaperLace
"Philadelphia Freedom.....Elton John
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart...EJ and Kiki Dee
"Old Days".........................Chicago
"Lady"...............................Styx
Your turn
I still have memories of those black and gold school buses.
1975 Chicago on the way to Des Plaines for a show 4th of July weekend.
Bus Driver #1: "Okay...ahhh...everyone in the last three rows move up."
Curious member: "Why?"
Bus Driver #1: The bus behind us has no brakes!"
Member: "Oh, is that all?"
I am choosing school bus
I have two
Joelle Allyn (spelling right?)....DeLasalle Oaklands/Oakland Crusaders
Tons of enthusiasm and great leadership
Carleen Tesavis.....Royal Coachmen (NY) this girl had so much leadership and could conduct better than MANY DM's back then. She won many best DM awards back then and she was good to look at then too.
Karen Walker ..(Lockport Blazers/Renegades), she too was like Carleen and everyone respected her in the corps. She was the head DM with the Renegades and did the majority of the conducting even with a future DCA Best DM there. She was above alot of DM's then too.
A great memory. I remember sitting on the 50 with the Phantom Reg people and my older girlfriend. It was fun seeing Oakland and Seneca and BD. But boy, what a huge difference in look and sound compared to today.
Give us your opinion and why
I have a couple......
Ted Key (Toronto, Ontario)..... Ted was the reason that our little drum corps in North Tonawanda, NY was so much better in 1976. He taught us basic music theory and made playing music exciting. I have the utmost respect for this great music educator.
Donnie Allen.....Although I was older, I learned alot from Donnie while working with him with the Rochester Crusaders. I learned about playing better and how to teach in a DCA horn line. If I were to rank my favos it would be Donnie Allen, Ted Key, and Steve Cooley.
Who's yours?
My apologies for leaving many great corps out, I was rushing to finish before I went to a Department Chair Meeting so corps like Avant Garde, Mark Twain Cadets, Tri Town Cadets, Alpine Girls, Firebirds, etc were left off. Sorry everybody!!!!
Sorry about not including Les Chatelaines, Norwood Debs, St. Mary's, Joan-ettes, Jean-ettes, Royaleer Mounties (I competed against them at the Johnsonburg, PA show).
My apologies
