  1. Once someone has picked one you can't use it again...sorry
  2. You can choose to be the director of a "dead" junior corps entering in to DCA, who would it be? Now ONLY CHOOSE 1. Mine will be...hmmmmm.... Bridgemen
  3. Remember when you couldn't sit on "concert" side? All competitiors sat in the back stands and you couldn't walk on the track on "concert side. you had to take the long way.
  4. I believe it was 1972....but St. John's Girls who won the US Open were carrying timps and skipped off the field with them. So they weren't strapping guys, and I believe they weren't big girls either.
  5. Bonnie Ott? Sandra Opie? Argonne Rebels? Mike Moxley? Pete Emmons? Scott Poulsen? Charioteers? PrecisionAires? Just thought of a few here
  6. I was a member of the Royal Coachmen (NY) in the 70's. In 1976, we purchased uniforms from the Seneca Princemen, won a few shows for the first time, had a successful season, won "A" Class NT Open and then our director resigns the day we leave for Philly for our first DCI. We finished 16th or something and that was that. Director returns a week or two later then resigns in May 1977 and so we "merge" with this corps called the Frontiersmen. Not a good summer at all and most of the kids from the Royal Coachmen go on to 27th, Seneca Optimist, Oakland Crusaders. I went into the Army. I always wondered what would've happened if we stuck it out. We had 32 horns, 20 perc and 20 in guard. I miss all the friends and the chance for my kids to march in that corps. ANYONE ELSE HAVE A STORY?
  7. My vote is for Schlossgarde in the 80's. I taught the horn line and we probably had a more original book than other European corps. My last year, I had the corps playing music that wasn't copying American corps. I wanted them to be themselves....."The Score" by Emerson, Lake, and Powell (not Palmer...Cozy powell). 8. Three come to mind..... Danny Boy (27th Lancers) The Way We Were (Madison) SCV's Phantom of the Opera closer

  10. I remember as a young lad looking at how impressive that trophy was. What a great show!!!!
  11. This is easy stuff! 1. Bridgemen were known as the __ __________________ Bridgemen. 2. This NY corps never saw top 12 but came close, who were they and how many times were they 13th? 3. First DCI "A" Class Champions ever? 4. Second ever DCI "A" Class Champs? 5. These two corps merged to form the Seneca Optimists? (duh) 6. Troy, Alabama was the home of this corps? 7. This corps, not from Wisconsin, wore short sleeve shirts, grey pants and was the sponsor of a patriotic show. 8. This corps came in last in Open Class in 1972 at the US Open. 9. This corps wore straw hats and blue jean coveralls as uniforms. 10. This corps drum line scored in the top 4 at a DCI Championships but the corps never made top 12.
  12. I have to vote the NT Open. My hometown and we won A class in 1976. Saw BD when they were wearing the satin blouses. Saw Argonne, Freelancers, Velvet Knights, Marksmen, Seattle Imperials, Black Watch, Floridians, Charioteers, Pioneer, PrecisionAires, Fire ettes, etc. Great show for a small championship. But alas, no more drum corps in Western NY anymore. We can host a World Championship but we can't even start up a drum corps. SUCKS!!!
  13. As we look back to the beginnings of DCI we have lost so money corps. The show sponsors have stopped holding shows due to cost per drum corps. Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, Troopers had to fold because money wasn't coming in to help support them. DCI sought out corporations to sponsor regional shows and they too pulled out. Cavaliers folded in 2011. It was up to last years champions, Spirit of Cocoa Cola to carry on the tradition of drum corps along with the other 17 corps that make up DCI North America. It was announced at the DCI meeting that 4 of the 17 corps will disband for the 2031 season. High School Marching Band competitions have been brought into the public spotlight due to ESPN. Every Saturday is a competiton from a different region in the U.S. "Students are allowed to have a life outside of band as most bands rehearse 2-3 nights a week and then travel to a Saturday contest, just like what was done prior to DCI," said a leader in the Marching Band Circuit from New Jersey. Corporations would rather spend money on a school than on independant groups. Will DCI be able to continue with just 14 corps in North American? with over 850 High School Marching Bands competing it would be hard for DCI to compete. Stay tuned for the further saga of the end of drum and bugle corps PS This is just fiction, and not my beliefs!!!!
  14. That yellow was actually Seneca Optimists uniform if I am not mistaken.

  19. ....Skyline, formerly known as Schlossgarde? I am disappointed that they are not competing. When I was with the them working with Pete Montanez they were the best in Germany. Anyone know what happened? B)
  20. Jeff K., Harpo, the soloists from Madison in 75, North Stars sop soloist, and my personal fav from way back.....Black Knights from Oswego, NY hadan awesome soloist in 72 or 73. He was as good or better than all those guys and I heard he was really a sax player!
  21. I have to agree about Madison '75 but the corps on the outside of them..SCV and BD had memorable shows too. Who can forget Argonne Rebels, Des Plaines Vanguard, Troopers, Blue Stars? Not wanting to revert back to the old days but that was a great time!
