in 04 and 06 i played bass 4 i lost about 30 pounds. in 07 i played bass 2 i weighed 2 pounds heavier at the end of the summer than at the start.

less is more. my first summer i brought tons of everything. i was prepared for anything and everything. 6 summers later i barely bring a duffle bag. at 4 am when you're stumbling off the bus, you don't want a 50 pound bag to schlep. this is what i usually bring -clothes 2 pairs of rehearsal shorts 3 rehearsal shirts (button down 100% cotton shirts from goodwill do the trick) 2 clean shirts (for after shows/ free days) a pair of clean shorts (same as above) 2 pairs of boxers for use with above clean shorts (so they stay clean!) 20 pairs of socks 2 pairs of show socks 2 show shirts that's about it. i mean you're with 149 other people. someone will have some of what ever you're looking for.

wow, i had no idea these things were so expensive (marching or fat). i don't know if i would want a window cling of anything on my wall for nearly 100 bucks.

in my experience, a huge part of a drum corps "audition" is a personality audition... that's another aspect to think about. completely outside of the playing/ marching aspect, the have to like you. regardless of how well you play/ move, if they (members/ staff) can't stand you, you probably wont be there.

DCI Championship Rings
L1STEN2311 replied to tromboner42's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
used to be done trough dci now it's done through the individual corps so i would assume it's where ever the corps can get them for the least expensive (at least i would imagine). At most places, the members actually have to buy the rings them selves now adays too... (not cheap either! upwards of $400) pay to march, bust your butt all summer... win... then pay to have a trophy... we are crazy. -
DCI Championship Rings
L1STEN2311 replied to tromboner42's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
acutally i don't think anyone got rings till the 80's... right? -
i wish i could say i played puma in 92 but playing puma in 04 is still one of my favorite drum corps moments... great chart. beddis actually worked with thurston to make sure "the groove" was there. it was an amazing thing to be a part of.

DCI age rule proposal
L1STEN2311 replied to crowncontra's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I would imagine that if it passes everyone except for the people who have their bonus years this year will NOT age out... meaning almost the entire drum corps community from 2008 is legal to come back... it would certainly mean a pretty rediculous age out ceremony eh? -
actually... i paid with sponsorships every year. It's a really long story with a bunch of weird circumstantial things that happened. Not once did i go somewhere thinking, "i'm doing this for a ring". For instance... You marched crossmen last year, TSRTS13? My dad was your tour director all summer. Just another weird piece of my drum corps career.

Phantom Regiment Switches To Dynasty Percussion!
L1STEN2311 replied to Fievel's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
yeah after marching dynasty, pearl, and yamaha... the only company i've had any good kind of "customer service" with is dynasty. yamaha and pearl both take for ever on fixing a problem. dynasty took days. dynasty's my new favorite. the pearls sound great, but what you have to go through (weight, putting the drums together, crappy randall may tube carriers, waiting 5 months to get your drums, broken lugs...) to me wouldn't be worth it if i were in charge of an organization. on topic.. paul has been given a lot of creative opportunities with dynasty over the past year or so. he works with dynasty equipment at UNT so he's very familiar with the equipment. i think it's a great opportunity to better dynasty's product. if nothing else, dynasty will get better creating more competition with yamaha and pearl thus hopefully making pearl and yamaha strive to make a difference in how they handel themselves. -

L1STEN2311 replied to jonnyboy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
i agree. it's important to know where you came from you know? i know i wouldn't be where i am now if i hadn't marched 2 years of div. 2 (and on a completely different instrument no less). -
Tracking the individual judges
L1STEN2311 replied to gottalovit's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
art is subjective. what we do (atleast kind of) is an art. there are different techniques (performance by the members and design by the staff) to achieve each end product. each judge likes somethings and doesn't like other things, and that kind of goes on and on... but some times there are clear cut "best" choices. i suppose clear cut doesn't quite work because it is all subjective... some judges will give more credit for demand than clenliness, others wont. look at three different brass styles, phantom, cadets, and blue devils... each one is so very, very differernt from the other. does that mean it's bad? not necissarily. i hope i'm atleast kind of getting my point across... it's 3 am, cut me some slack... -
not only am i surprised that this topic was started, but more shocked that it's still open. ha ha In reference to Sopchick 1, according to where you've marched, i would assume there's a lower age average vs. some other corps. when i marched div. 2 there was very very little to no drinking done at all so i can't say i'm quite surprised by your naivety to this subject. but to attack people for what they choose to do or discuss just doesn't really help your cause... just kinda makes you seem socially awkward... i hung out with my 4 year old neice on my free day this summer. we went to sea world. it was a lot of fun.
