Here's my thoughts on last night's show...
12. Spirit - Definately better than the previous two years. Hornline was great but visual package was lacking the intensity to move up to 11th or 10th. Overall, I enjoyed the performance.
11. Glassmen - This show just didnt do much for me. Colorguard was the highlight of the performance. Percussion, brass, and visual performances were OK. I see Glassmen staying in the 11th position through finals.
10. Madison - This corps definately deserved higher than 10th. I placed them in 8th. GE was amazing, as expected with Madison. With some more work in the colorguard and music GE areas, I see them moving as high as 8th.
9. Boston - Best show in the past few years. Hornline and percussion were rockin. The music book is very well written and performed very well. The visual package was a little off lasst night however, with some more work, could end up being great. I think BAC will place 7th or 8th at finals.
8. BK - Good, but not great. No comments except BAC should have been 8th.
7. SCV - I love this show. Definately a show that was put together better than last years. Hornline, percussion, guard and visual were all great. There were a few moments were the show failed to keep my attention but other than that, a great show. Not as good as crown, but close. SCV, Boston, BK, and Madison will be duking it out for 7th the next couple weeks.
6. Crown - Definately a notch above the previous corps. Crown got the shaft before their performance. They were on field and about to begin when lightning started popping around the dome and the officials decided to wait an extra thirty minutes to let the sound of the thunder go away. So, crown leaves the field and comes back. Could have affected the performers a bit. However, a great performance. Hornline was smokin, a notch above the past two years. Colorguard.....amazing. Visual package was good and definately more difficult than previous years. Despite a baritone falling near the end of the show and the colorguard member missing a solor rifle toss, a wonderful show. Percussion is still the achilles heal but it works. If percussion can step it up and no falls or misses, Cadets better watch out.
5. Cadets - TOO MANY PROPS....39 by my count. Although the show was well performed, too much is happening and the show is too hard to follow. C'mon Cadets, where are the shows that used to amaze me? Stop doing this nonsense and hit me with some Rocky Point and Moondance! This show moves no higher than 5th.
4. Bluecoats - Wonderful. This corps has it together. I figured the new ending would boost the GE scores. Wonderful show, wonderful brass, percussion, visual and colorguard. But to me, and obvious notch below the top 3. However, I love the show. Should be a lock for 4th.
3. Phantom - Hornline = perfect. I heard no flaws in the line tonight. All entrances and releases were crisp. Nobody missed a note. The chord at the end of the ballad was the most in tune chord I've heard in quite a while. This corps should have been 2nd.
2. BD - I've come to expect great performances from BD and thats just what I got. This shows got it all. The hornline could have played a little more but BD's percussion is always my favorite section of the corps. Great percussion book. Very even with Phantom, but last night PR had the edge.
1. Cavaliers - To me, more than .025 better than BD. I would have given them at least a 94. Besides a few brass cracks, a nearly flawless performance. Come finals week, I see Cavaliers winning it all by at least a point. This show is the best of the year.
Thats my 2 cents...
