  1. it's full potential, good and bad, has been on display in WGI percussion and BOA and other band circuits for years. in fact I find it amusing the only thing not copied from WGI to DCI is how narration and amplification is used. But given the number of corps who did try, and haven't tried since is larger than those still trying, i think maybe people are realizing it's not all it's cracked up to be.
  2. IMO, Coats could lose about 10 lines, especially from the mumbly bad Mickey impersonator and it would help. like Dennis said...if used right, it works. George hasn't found right. It's almost like he thinks more is better, and in hindsight, less is more. But Boston 04, Yowza, the Rent show...all too much. whats funny is the number of corps who did use it that got away from it since their turn blew up. George gets his flak because he keeps trying to cram it down everyones throats, and when people complain, he chooses to dismiss them as close minded and anti innovation. I guess he better look at most of World Class now, because their shows are, by and large, closed minded and old school when it comes to this...and thrilling fans.
  3. Allentown this year "where are you going the Cadets are coming on?" "I'm going to pursue happiness by not watching it" and, no, it wasn't me saying it
  4. ah the PC police. (not the drum corps PC either) guess what...if everyone did all relgious shows, people would ##### too. kids can see and hear way worse at the elementary school levels these days. go fix that problem then come back here and lecture.
  5. i think had he made it long enough to post on DCP, he would have probably been banned...boy could he argue I'm usually a pretty cynical guy, but I got to know thru RAMD and adored him. I know exactly where I was standing in the DCI market place, talking to Don and Tom Allen when Tom Peashey told us. Here's 3 guys who have been around drum corps forever, seen it all, shocked by little....crying over a kid we all met once. Honestly, the rest of the show meant nothing to us...we thought about jason and the fun times on RAMD. And oh were they fun. Jason, I can say one thing for you my friend....on the one week of the season when emotions and loyalties are at their fiercest, when people argue over every tenth, that week you created one loyal unending bond....missing you. I don't think I'll ever forget Spirit's friday performance, or the cloud that flew over Spirit at the end of thursday....you sending a message I am sure. With you and now Sean Holton up there together, I can only imagine the havoc you two are wreaking. we miss you Jason, and for one moment in time, scores didnt matter because of you. If you only knew how many people you really touched and got to be friends just because we all loved you.
  6. I predict Fran will have at least one bad joke to make every 4/5 corps
  7. awesome review that i also agree with on many levels concerning the construction of the shows ( cant speak performance, wasn't there)
  8. only got scores and reactions texted to me...i was watching the Phils lose in 12....but from those i talked to there that know visual, they can not comprehend Phantoms visual placement and BD's visual 10's. BD good...very much so. Phantom as good...no but not that far off. Bd is doing nothing groundbreaking visually, unless you count all the body stuff done zillions of times in WGI. Here's hoping the music side of the house has the set to pop spreads like the visual side is doing
  9. God I hope not. in a world of too many sterile voices in announcing of any sort, he is a breath of fresh air, like Fran in DCA.
  10. oh hell it's all Rachacha to me. i'll stick to cracker barrell next to my hotel
  11. maybe a touch too long and a touch too dark, but well done
  12. wow, I don't think Sky has ever been on that early before.
  13. the what and the how are there. just because you have the what doesnt mean you have the how. too often people think just because they do this or so and so wrote that, they should get points. it doesnt work that way.
  14. it was a thread here: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...t&p=2172721 no need for film
  15. I havent had that stuff in years. and where is Schallers?
  16. it makes sense. GE was the only area no averaged. If one judge decided to make a statement, it could upset the apple cart, whereas if you look at the other captions tonight, an off night or weak caption can be balanced out by the averages in visual and music. for a change, GE didnt call the show
  17. thoughts from the top row center in the Harrisburg theater: Spirit...how can i buy one of the 4 flags? a friend will love it. other than that, yawn. kids did well, but the vehicle bleh. Colts...came off good, but show still seems to crawl. Madison...en fuego. deserved! Crossmen.....did you guys lose your soul when you moved? two years of shows that just dont reach a level of emotion that can help you. Glassmen: fun show, guard sells it well. Boston...more energy than i thought in allentown, very intense, but something's missing. Blue Stars....great addition with the bike. drumline seems better than 14th. adjust that number, the gaps opens up Bk.....god...please entertain me some year. Coats...brought it tonight. Boxer chorale out of this world. the Mickey voice inaudible often, and liked the intro without Michael Buffer. drumline stupid sick. boxer dancing...not so much SCV.....fire tonight, SCV passion. now, write a show that can be fully achieved. Cadets...loved the ending as you have it. Sarah and the narrator dont do a good job of selling when the talking isnt happening. looks badly acted. Crown...loved em, and so did the theater, but on the screen, the extra oomph seemed missing til the very end. Phantom.....should have won. awesome cavies......wasnt thrilled live, less thrilled on the screen. BD...liked it, thought it was a tight 2nd IMO, poor micing on the field...made many drumlines sound dirty when you know it wasn't.
  18. like i said, I applaud his honesty, and i rarely applaud him. takes balls to go on a nationwide broadcast and say "oops, well it looked good on paper" ( paraphrasing of course)
