  1. location location location. i finally got an open class show in my area last summer and ordered my tickets day 1. saw great stuff...sadly crowd size was eh. but the show is back this year, ordered my tickets on day 1 and i keep spreading the word
  2. i used to go when it was in driving distance and also went in 02 to finals. 02 D2/D3 finals was one of the best top to bottom shows i've ever seen in person
  3. this. plus if a corps is the host, odds are concessions are run by the school that owns the stadium, so they aren't getting any of that. But if the program is the QR code type, you can get some sponsors for that to help a little
  4. they didn't get anything from ESPN the first time around. i doubt it would change
  5. i wonder how much licensing costs eat into whatever DCI makes.
  6. mine had snaps. and was bought 2 sizes large...i planned ahead
  7. oh i've been there. and i partke in a lot of Flo since my area gets so few shows anymore. but man...live...yeah. i'd pay it, and beats the hell out of suffering through penn State beat down UMass in the rain
  8. anymore due to family considerations, i wouldn't be going there anyway. the little one isnt ready for my kind of drum corps marathon, and i'd be in trouble if i ignored the fam to watch all day thursday. and friday. and saturday
  9. ok. so last year, for a night game at Penn State, we paid $117 each for 3 tickets, plus parking. plus food. Homecoming a few weeks later, $95 a seat, plus parking plus food. For Allentown for 2 nights, $52 a seat for all 3 of us, for 2 nights....so $104 a seat. Plus our parking for our tailgate and food, most of which we'll bring with us. much better bargain. Open Class show the week before....$20 a seat, no parking fee if like last year. Same for the All Age show the week before. so my 2024 drum corps season will end up in the long run be cheaper than my 2023 Penn State football experience. by like $200. and at penn State you pay like $50 to park in a field....or more if closer...and hope it doesn't rain. Drum corps is still a less expensive alternative for fans. Hell Penn state for 2 games basically equals semis and finals if we went to Indy....not counting hotel and travel in fact despite everything people complain about with Allentown, some justified......it's so profitable because its one of the few places DCI doesn't have to pay a fortune for. thats why they havent been in the new Dome in Atlanta.
  10. well pro sporting events....way more expensive than DCI, yet stadiums and arenas keep getting filled. it's not like the corps are getting rich on this. high end college or pro facilities aren't cheap. hell high school stadiums aren't cheap. letting outside groups in carries risk, there's utilities and staff costs....it's where we are.
  11. it's not just here, though it has been said here too.
  12. actually many alumni loudly pine for Latin jazz shows as the way to succeed. then they continually point out (insert Malagaguena year here) as one to repeat
  13. like everything in life, ticket prices have gone up. why? venue costs have gone up. staffing costs have gone up. a Penn State Hockey game was $99 a seat and in abuilding that only holds 5500, and we weren't sitting by the boards.
  14. still waiting for 8/4 for Reading too. the previous show site logistically barely worked for DCA ( great sound in the stadium tho), so i would be surprised if thats where this goes given how much of the neighborhood gets overwhelmed with the DCA show
  15. glad to hear it. i may still have the text saved somewhere. may have been 2011. or was it the year Hop ripped Nate a new ######## online for something, tho unlike Ellen, he didn't mention his name. or doing things for love. and i get your desire to defend. you have to realize many other people in positions that saw things up close have definitely lifted the lid off in ways that do differ a lot from what you're saying.
  16. the problem for Cadets was tour time is when the band circuit money wasn't rolling in yet. so if they ran out of what they had, it was tight til they got that plus any show sponsor/show host funds came in and the annual DCi payout
  17. yeah but some of these stories are in the last 10 years
  18. oh i don't remember that. i do remember getting a text the day of East from a corps member asking if i could chip in to a parent group getting pizza for the kids after the show cause they had no food before they left for the show site
  19. even if you called WF back they wouldn't update it without written consent
