  1. Exactly. I don't usually expect to see much until a few weeks before finals.
  2. Yep. You can almost always find videos of finals once the season is over. I think if the folks at DCA would do some more marketing and get some butts in seats, the corps would follow suit to keep the interest high. You'll usually find a #### ton of lot videos before prelims as well. It DID used to be different though.
  3. Combination of several things I think. Up until probably 4 years ago, it was easy to find videos of most corps at events throughout the season. Corps are posting less and less now and I truly don't think it has anything to do with DCA. They have never seemed to really actively seek out people videoing. I DO believe that certain corps (such as CV,) actively have posts taken down (especially of early season events.) I can't verify that and there's nothing on the member or alumni boards to support it...it's just a feeling.
  4. Be wary...it would start another thread on "prop safety." Don't want people slipping on blood.
  5. The scariest part of this is that the only thing in defiance of the rules is that Paul and Ringo would have aged out in like 1961 or 1962. Amps though.....that's doable!
  6. To this day, if anyone asks about what Drum Corps is, I go to this show for the pure emotion of it. There are other shows that offer more in the way of drill, raw power, etc. But what an amazing show. I can't foresee anyone having a better 6th place show...ever. To see it live is something I will never forget. Memories marching are one thing. Most of that was/is a blur. But memories of watching shows either with my dad live or by myself in later years have their own special place. Gotta say though, being in Finals retreat is pretty ####### awesome.
  7. I still call them contras and band moms still don't know what I'm talking about. /cry
  8. I saw it live Sam. It was "ok." I'm kidding LOL. Amazing show. Being at finals in '84 was what made me decide to march corps. So thanks for your part in that.
  9. Academy unfortunately. I don't get Mandarins show either but it doesn't wear me down like Academy's does. Bloo is just too over the top on electronics this year for me to really dig on it, but it's a well written and performed show...just not my cup of coffee. Spirit started like they would maybe make a push but I think it was just too much "stuff" for them to really clean it all and bring it to full potential. I'm not a huge fan of Cadets this year show wise, but haven't really been a fan in the last 5 years. EDIT: I didn't skip any of these corps in Hotlanta nor would I if I were fortunate enough to be in Indy. They just were shows that I didn't enjoy as much as I would have liked to have.
  10. I asked a similar question about props. I don't recall getting too much feedback in response.
  11. Very true. Unfortunately, judging in DCI has been as slow to change with the times as some of their policies have been.
  12. You were correct. And what's driven that change, IMHO is how corps now are staged. As we've towards more and more vertical staging, it's become more advantageous for corps to mic and amp to their hearts content. The race for the best technology is nothing new. I didn't much like Kevlar when I first played on in '88. Imagine how washed out drums would sound now if it weren't for Kevlar. Just to throw it out there too, I was pretty critical of some pit mic'ing this year (especially early season PR.) As Jeff stated earlier, mic'ing a pit can go very well (Bluecoats '16,) or HORRIBLY wrong such as stated above with PR early. Live by the electonic doo-hickies, die by the electronic doo-hickies.
  13. THANK YOU!! Until you've had to try to groove to a click, you just won't understand that it's not as easy as people think.
  14. I don't get where the evidence is that a click track is being played through the earpieces. Maybe I missed something in the 14 pages. If that's the case, then I'm sure someone will present actual proof and blow the proverbial met-whistle on the offender. If it's simply something that's being used only in rehersal, then I wouldn't find it to be any different than the consistant "GINK GOK GINK GOK GINK GOK" of the sirens call know as "Dr. Beat." Just sayin'
  15. I would hope so, but I never try to outguess judges. The battery at Atlanta was pretty dirty by comparison to Atlanta last year. I don't know if they were adding stuff or the dome effected them or what. The new Mapex drums sound great but they certainly don't hide dirt well.
  16. I'm guessing he wasn't yelling "whatamenuvah" or "They're always ready!" huh?
  17. I would think CV will hit at least an 80 at their home show. That will shift things around a bit.
  18. If anyone ever does another Star Trek show, I would give fat cash to hear someone scream "KHANNNNNN!!"
  19. Excellent. It's going to be interesting for certain. I know I'm a bit of a homer, but I would really like to have seen CV head to head w/ Bucs and Cabs. In an earlier thread, we had all spoken about the show in Winston-Salem. I REALLY wish they would bring that show back (as much as I hated the pit having to schlep a full front ensemble half way across the world.) It would do a lot to give us a true idea of where the non-northeastern corps truly land prior to championships. I don't see CV falling out of the top 5, but only having one score since mid-July really hamstrings them IMHO.
  20. It's going to be interesting for certain. If I remember correctly, CV will have the final score of the regular season. But which score actually determines seeding at Prelims?
