  1. You also described the situation in Florida. But that hasn't done much financially or artistically for Magic, Suncoast, or Wave. Sure has helped BAC, Glassmen, and Cavaliers though.
  2. That post triggered a remembrance from the stone age. Didn't the Crossmen enjoy similar, yet less formal, relationships with North Penn High, West Chester State, and U of Delaware prior to YEA? Certainly very talented members & staff, but no non-artistic support. What will make it different in SA? How will this arrangement differ from Southwind & Broken Arrow?
  3. I believe it's an evaluation process, not a rule. Southwind was re-evaluated (as Crossmen should be) when they incorporated independently of MDBCA. Their status was obviously retained.
  4. I'm not aware of the details with Boston & Crown. I'm quite aware of the Sunriser arrangement and, if anything, it was more integrated than Crossmen.
  5. It's a mixed bag. Yes, it worked for Crossmen. Not so well for BAC, Crown. A total disaster for Sunrisers.
  6. Just curious. If this had happened prior to 2004, would you have still marched SCV or would you have stayed in TX?
  7. The few months in 1980 that I lived in Ridley Park and parked the truck in my apartment building lot (before the neighbors complained)..................... Robbie being 1st on the scene the horrible night we lost Jim Ott......... Standing on the sidelines with Robbie and Dave at West Chester a few weeks later when we lost Bob Jacobs, Sr. right in front of us.................. I think my most vivid memory was seeing the corps go on in Birmingham in 1979 wearing the "disco tears" after the great apology............. I'm sorry, you can't take that to some band in Texas (and I DO wish the San Antonio Sheriffs well).
  8. As one who was briefly involved with the poor & proud Crossmen, I would favor a name change. But that choice should reside solely with Harold & Charlotte Robinson.
  9. Why does this seem like Southwind deja vu all over again?
  10. That would be the world series with the Blue Jays.
  11. So a Canadian corps who performed at several Tournament of Roses parades over the years would HAVE to display the American Flag and not the California state flag? Even if presented as a token of appreciation by the City of Pasadena? I wasn't there this year, but I have seen the Cabs put the Quebec flag out of order re: the Japanese flag, but a flag code penalty is too old school :P
  12. The Cabs have a long relationship in and with Quebec. I believe they performed several years at the Winter Carnival in Quebec City. They have flown the Quebec provincial flag for some time now and, as others have noted, it is their choice.
  13. That's what I get for running two thoughts together. The 1st statement was a general comment about those who frequently "pop-off" about alumni corps and alumni projects and re-living our youth. It's been my observation that, where drum corps is concerned, they often have no life to re-live. A totally unrelated thought was that, judging by the many fans you have here (myself included), you think like a much younger person. And my mental image certainly will not allow me to think that any former 27th Lancer guard captain could look older than the way I remember them. Please forgive if I got wrapped up in my own words. I meant quite the opposite of an insult.
  14. Usually, it's folks who have lived nothing substantial in the 1st place You are NOT 35 plus whatever.............it would just be too cruel to your admiring fans. b**bs
  15. My math isn't that good, but it looks like Cos to me. Cabs are a DCA corps, but Bandettes aren't DCI D1 either. But, it's all good. These folks and their peers have all made tremendous contributions to the activity. And I include George Hopkins and even Bill Cook for his 15 minutes of fame :)
  16. Their creative decisions the past two years haven't been my cup of tea, and the unis were a big part of it. I did like the Broken Arrow uniforms with the "Mummy" show, though.
  17. Southwind in their rented band costumes.
  18. Jim Costello was with Hawthorne from their inception in 1946 until his passing in the 1990s. I'm fairly sure that he was still with us in 1996 for their 50th anniversary.
  19. Bill Kemmerer at Garfield and Jim Costello of the Hawthorne Caballeros,
  20. I know this is about the Scouts, but I agree with the original poster. Both Koester and Valenzuela won it all as director and Rosander has more rings than either of them as a designer. What I saw from Myron with Scouts in Madison was anything but "crap".
  21. Talk to Martin Redmann about talking to Hughie about Southwind b**bs
