  1. Thanks for jogging my memory. I still liked Dance Portraits
  2. This year I found myself glancing down to the sideline to see if corps X had amps or not. That's amplification used properly. Remember, since 2004 every corps who has amplified voices has dropped the concept the next year. The lone exception is the Cadets who went from 1st place in year 1 to 5th place in year 2. Except for the innocuous use of amps in the pit, I fail to see a groundswell of support for amplification.
  3. Not every championship can have the drama of 1968. I see from your signature that you were part of the 1st to 5th (?) disaster. Looking at the years you were in Des Plaines I'd love to have traded places with you (c'mon Miami alums; humor me).
  4. I applaud your generosity. Hopefully SW has become organized enough to show their appreciation. As for the show, to be objective, there were just that many good corps ahead of them. My own bias is that the re-hashed Southwest band shows haven't worked to their advantage. I truly hope they make a change in coordinators. They need to get back to pressing for finals, not semis. Mike is the only REAL drum corps designer there and he's doing other things. they need to get back to drum corps programming.
  5. I don't recall anything but a bass beat last night but .2 wouldn't have changed the outcome. BTW, I believe the previous penalty was in 03 in Orlando. If I recall, devine intervention wouldn't have pushed that placement up, which was a shame because I liked that show (Gayne Ballet).
  6. There were about that many anti-Vanguard threads last year. Ya gotta take the chicken crap with the chicken salad.
  7. Gee, what do you do during football season? The kids who play for FSU (for example) work their butts off too. Given the choice between their worthy opponents scoring a touchdown or throwing an interception which do you think "mature" supporters want. I'd assume that the age range for both garnet and gold teams is about the same. Your logic fits the middle school model better. At that stage, you want the young kids/players to achieve their goals regardless of competitive considerations. At that level, you cheer on the accomplishments. I don't have the same standards for highly competitive, polished 20 year-olds, nor do they hold those standards themselves. And a couple of "wide rights" ruined a couple of years' work. And there was a lot of criticism.
  8. So if I wasn't so stupid, I'd KNOW that her part is dissonance, not out of tune? Don't you think that's risk beyond acceptability. Putting a dissonant phrase on a controversial "instrument"?
  9. First of all, I wish I could actually say that I know Enya so I could do a Lloyd Bentsen and say "she's no Enya', but alas, she's just not very good with that piece, and she was out of tune last night. What really scared me was the intensity of His Georgeness pacing the sidelines, mouthing lyrics and applauding where there were no spectacular moves. Kind of like watching Nixon's resignation speech, waiting for something crazy to happen. I was waiting for the inevitable train wreck with the amplification. To my regret, it never occurred.........darn! One question, for the vast majority of corps who only use amps for the pit: Why do they need a soundboard? It looked bizarre seeing the Glassmen soundboard operator (and several others) mixing away. Did they really have to balance marimba 2 with the tymps and re-mix for the chimes?
  10. I knew Harvey & his lovely Lois in the good old days of St, Louis drum corps. I even recall a late night drive through some scary Alabama countryside together. I'll see you sometime this week, Harvey.
  11. Now you've given me a taste for Lebanon Bologna, or is that a Balinese Lesbian?
  12. She can yell VANGUARD too (I will, however pummel anyone who yells CRYSTALL). I LOVE THIS. I remember how I, and apparently most of the rest of the audience, progressed in Boston last year. Quarterfinals: afterthought Semis: slightly more gusto Finals: measured on the Richter scale
  13. Any chance he can bring a couple of the Inspires guard members with him? They left me a changed man.
  14. Please focus the camcorder on the lesbians and ignore the man with the drum.
  15. This kid has had a chip on his shoulder about Myron for some time now. He erupts about every 6 months with another anti-Rosander hairball. Note to Sparky: I don't care how fast your band could run, you've never marched drum corps. You have no right criticizing the alumni of SCV or any other competing corps from any generation.
  16. Clarke Terry, who's roots were in the old Spirit of St. Louis corps?
  17. I did enjoy his tales of woe from teaching the Offensive Lions in Quebec. Nice corps for a couple of years. Dan's signature high sticking line. They had one linguistic adventure after another.
  18. Dewayne Shipley? Forget the director. Find Claudia Hardy. (as the Cat in the Hat would say: "humana humana")
  19. Pioneer: "Remembering Bernardette Devlin & the Music of Black 47".
  20. From Miami; Through the years: Ed Burke Bill Hayes #### (I'd better say Richard) Filkins #### (Also Richard) Klund Val Capone Sunrisers: Mike DeLorenzo Reilly Alumni: Carl "Govie" Place And, I know what you mean, Jeff. I had the honor of working for Robbie (Zo) & Charlotte Robinson (and their little dog too) at the Crossmen and (take the good with the bad) Len Halliburton at Belleville. Can't run all those credits without adding my heroes: Frank Pamper: Des Plaines Vanguard Hugh Mahon: Garfield Cadets (Hey Huey - you remember that I named my baby after your daughter Colleen? Mine just turned 31 b**bs )
  21. That one's on Jimmy Hoffa's last leg. Try the new Eagles' stadium. I heard a rumor that they have both mass transit AND parking.
