  1. Matt, I am interested in the K80. I sent you an e-mail this morning, but I don't know if it is an old address... Did you get it?
  2. Wow! Thanks Cozy, and everyone else! You don't know what this means to all of us! Yes, we made a choice to focus on being entertaining. We still want to score higher, but our focus is on the fans. The responses from the crowds at the stadium and at minicorps were wonderful! It makes it all worthwhile. So many people came to us over the weekend, and online, to tell us how much they enjoyed our performance. We really appreciate your applause and encouragement! Thanks so much!
  3. Our contra soloist stepped out of the box on the sideline. It's OK, though - he promised not to do it again!
  4. Ditto all the above - great tunes!!! Extra ditto for "Danny Boy". I can't believe no on has mentioned "Let It Be Me". Spirit '80 - Goosebumps, man!
  5. Well, not counting on-the-road rehearsals. BTW - HI BRENT!!!!
  6. Well, as you know, I can play contra. But, I don't wanna make Hef look bad! ^0^ Besides, someone's gotta keep the rest of the baris in line! And I'm just the man for the job! b**bs
  7. OK, I didn't read this entire thread, but here's my take: Drum and Bugle Corps IS NOT BAND! There are plenty of outlets for you if you want to march in a band. There are comparatively few outlets for you march in a drum and bugle corps. I've heard good bands, good college bands. They're entertaining - but they aren't D&BC. D&BC shouldn't be changed into yet another type of band just to satisfy woodwind players. You know what? Lots of musicians before you learned to play brass so they could march. They didn't expect us to change the very essence of the activity to accommodate them! D&BC has used brass instruments since before you were born. It is not our concern that you are 19 and can't play a brass horn - you put yourself into that position. So, you might not have enough time to get good enough to march a Div 1 corps - too bad. Think about the thousands of life-long brass musicians who never had the opportunity to march Div 1. I know - let's get rid of the age-limit! I'll be able to march Div 1 next summer! I know the tone of this posting is a little harsh - please don't take this as a personal attack. But think about the points I've raised. When you propose changing the very foundation of an activity, you change the activity into something else. I should add that these opinions are my own, and do not necessarily represent the position of my corps.
  8. Great news! Sounds like you guys hit the ground running! I also look forward to seeing you in Nashville in August. GOOD LUCK!!!
  9. Good luck Basey! Glad to see you guys starting to crank up for '07!
  10. Admittedly, my experience is limited, compared to others in this thread. That said... I really enjoy watching Vic Kulinsky. And the DM from The Governaires (sorry, I don't remember his name). My favorite is Matt Dudek. I've had the pleasure of marching with him for the past three seasons. On the podium, he's AMAZING! He can pull a tear back together, give every section their own cues, give us drill cues with his head (or his feet), and continuously provide feedback that always makes our performance better. Off-the-podium, he's a terrific leader, and a tireless worker. His DM style is not to play to the crowd as much as other DMs. I think (from what I've seen) that he tries to bring the best performance out of the corps - rather than _being_ the performance himself. So, I think sometimes the audience may overlook him, because he does his job so well. Thanks Matt! OK, I'm done with the mushy stuff.
  11. I can't tell you how much that means to me. The Bridgemen have been my drum corps idols since 1980. To play for you guys, and to get that response from you... is definitely a high point in my drum corps life! After 1980 Finals, I wanted to run away and join the Bridgemen. Maybe I can still do that sometime in the next few years. Thanks again!
  12. Um... That's not right. At least, the part where you transpose from bass clef to treble. The low C in TC corresponds to a 2nd line Bb in BC. The 2nd line G in TC corresponds to a 4th line F in BC. The TC horns will play in the key of C when the BC horns are playing key of Bb. Now, on the other stuff, transposing up a perfect 4th - I dunno. But, if you ar playing a duet with another G bugle, you can skip this step. You only need to do this if you are playing with other instruments (different keys). If what I have written is unclear, let me know, I'll give it another shot!
  13. Roger that! She's awesome! She visited our hornline this winter. I was standing next to her while we played. Just... wow.
  14. Guys, Anybody feelin' it? A little nerves, a little "jazz", knowing that showtime is comin'... Woo. Hoo. LET'S ROCK!!! It's OK. It's just a seasonal disorder - I'll be better after Labor Day.
  15. If I may interject: I know Torn8o personally, and he gets really LOUD and PASSIONATE during discussions. If you were talking with him face-to-face, you can appreciate this. However, on a text-based forum, he _does_ come across as slightly obnoxious. He doesn't mean it, though... He's really a nice guy. He has been taking db readings of our hornline during rehearsals. We're putting up some decent numbers. I'll leave it to Torn8o to share them though... (psst - brag on the lead baris!) Later...
  16. Yes, I noticed this a couple of years ago, whe I started playing G baritone. It made my trombone feel "small". So, for several months, I practiced all my baritone music on a G euph at home, and only played the baritone at camp. Worked GREAT! I just wish I still had a euph at home to use for this. I have a baritone Grande, but it isn't the same.
  17. Actually, Festivus, that will have to go through the Nickname Committee in order to be official. Please submit the history and reasoning behind proposed nickname within 72 hours. Thank you!
