  1. Unless you know him and I'm missing the joke - that was completely uncalled for. Mike
  2. Snareline (note that it wraps around the corner of the form!) Snare Pic 1 Snareline 2 (the rest of them!) Snare Pic 2 Wow - lot of drums... Mike
  3. As a good place to start, might I recommend Columbus Percussion? http://www.columbuspercussion.com/ They have a "school and educational" catalog with the big (Yamaha, Pearl, Premier, Dynasty) drum corps drum makers in there, and they've got pretty representative pricing. Hope that helps! Mike
  4. In my top 3 of all-time favorite shows, by far. That drumline in Caravan - wow. And Now or Never is right up there in my book with the greatest closers ever! Mike
  5. That year, they did. Off the top of my head (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong): 1974 - 1993 - Live PBS broadcast. (Except for '80 or '81, which was a taped broadcast of the Whitewater show?) 1994 - 1998 - Delayed "highlights" package. 1999 - 2001 - Live PBS broadcast. 2002 - 2003 - Delayed sort-of-highlights package. Mike
  6. DCI's Legacy Collection DVD's Or Even Better - "A Taste of Madison" DVD with both shows on it. Hope this helps! Mike
  7. Hard for me to say - I knew before I saw it how it turned out, so it didn't bother me that much. Mike
  8. Moved to DCP Marketplace forum... Mike
  9. Remo now makes the Tendura line - I'm sure they're pretty similar. (Though I've not played them - we've still got our Premiers...) Mike
  10. Revolution's strength is their drumline - if you can make that long of a drive, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised... Mike
  11. Very very top - s/b a black bar with it next to Drum Corps Planet? Also, here's the direct link for now: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.org/percussionplanet/ Mike
  12. Any drummers or would-be drummers: If you have suggestions / questions / comments of things you'd like to see on the site or specific forums you'd talk in, please PM me! Thanks, :) Mike
  13. Thanks for the links! Very helpful... There's a clinic in KC that our drum teacher's trying to get us all to go to - I think Kilpatrick's going to be there (at least, he was last year). Mike
  14. We got the drum guy at the "big" pipe band in Austin to come work with us last night. First thing he did was let me play one note and told me my grip was bad. :P It's okay, I knew it was coming - I pretty much had to teach myself traditional grip, but what he changed it to was weird. For left hand, I don't know how different "regular" trad grip is, he's got my palm perpendicular to the plane of the drum, and almost all of the stick action is controlled by the thumb on top. For my right hand, I was a little more confident, since I was used to playing matched, but he changed that, too. Now, it's more of a french grip - more finger than wrist... heck, really, it's like a timpani grip. Again, thumb on top. (Basically, rotate your wrist 90 degrees clockwise from the palm-down thing most schools teach.) It's taking some getting used to, but I can live with it, I suppose. Pipe band drumming - much more different and distinct from "regular" marching drumming than I ever thought it'd be. Mike
  15. Bad news, everyone - Due to ... well, there's no other way to put it... complete lack of interest from our members, we have decided to cancel this year's DCP Drum Corps Review Contest. We did not have enough nominations to complete a full ballot. Thanks to those who did nominate reviews, and hopefully we'll try again next year. Please PM me or George if you have any questions. Thanks, Mike
  16. It is back up, and they've apparently got a deal with Vic Firth to share footage... http://www.drumlineparkinglot.net/ Mike
  17. So what are some good "big person" snare carriers? Our pipe band ain't full of youngsters, and our T-bars are hurting in a big way... Mike
  18. Last chance to nominate reviews! The deadline for submission is tomorrow (Tuesday) at midnight... Send an e-mail to contest@drumcorpsplanet.com with the URL of your favorite / best review! The most nominated reviews will be posted on Wednesday for voting. Good Luck! Mike
  19. Oh, shoot - that was in the Historical Series booklet back when... Um... 88?

    SCV 2003

Actually, they were right in line with everyone else. They had 8 when I saw them in July, and I think it was down to 7 by Finals, but that's still not an outrageously small number. It's not <cough - Star '90 - cough> like they were marching 5... :)
  21. Nominations are still being taken - send yours in! Mike
  22. Nominations are now being accepted! To nominate a review, simply send an e-mail to contest@drumcorpsplanet.com or PM the URL to me. Thanks! Mike
  23. Hey, if Jeff can solicit nominations for best review, so can I. Nominate me! :) Mike
  24. Okay, here's the details on nominating reviews: You can start nominating reviews on Monday, October 13th. To nominate a review, send an e-mail to: contest@drumcorpsplanet.com In the e-mail, please try to remember to include the URL of the page with the review (just copy the address in your browser window), or at least try to give me enough information on it so that I know which review you're talking about! :) Reviews need to have been posted or e-mailed to us within five days of the contest date in order to qualify. All show or camp reviews posted between March 1st and Sept 5th 2003 will be considered. Nominations will close on Tuesday, October 21. On Wednesday, October 22, a poll will go up that includes the top 10 nominated reviews, and links to them so you can read them in all of their glory. Once you've read them, use the poll to vote for the one you think's the best. Voting will close on Friday, October 31st at the end of the day. (midnight) On Monday, November 3rd, the winning entry will be announced. So start persuing the Show and Event Reviews forum, and determine which reviews you want to nominate. And yes - you can nominate yourself! :) If you have any questions, you can e-mail me or just hit the PM button under this post! Thanks, and good luck! Mike
