  1. My other half and I have had many discussions about the dominance of the Blue Devils.

Blue Devils are the Ivy League of DCI.  Period.  It’s where the Best of the Best want to march.

If you want to win a medal, you work your butt off to march at the Blue Devils.

Blue Devils plan their season very strategically.    Couple of examples would be … They always stay at MTSU for the Master’s show.  They are there 2-3 days and practice and practices.  They usually win the Murfreesboro show.  After winning at Allentown on Friday night, they rarely march another show until Prelims in Indy.

This comes down to … what’s the point of a competitive activity when 1 Corps more than likely wins most of the time?

I personally think it’s bad for the activity.  I said it about Garfield in 80’s, Star of Indiana in the early 90’s and Cavies in the early 2000’s and now BD since 2009.

Until BD’s design team breaks up, they will be the favorites.

  2. Honestly, I think DCI is missing out on an opportunity.

Yes, I would love for them to to produce the annual CD and Blu-ray/DVD disc, but I understand the demand is not there.  I have all the Championship CDs going back to the first in 1988.

But, with the interest and demand for Albums, I guarantee Drum Corp "Vinyl" would sell out!

Imo missing brass players  (say 5ish) should not hurt a corps with 80 brass.  Especially with mic’s these days.  How it could hurt, is if all missing players were from the same section; all trumpet leads, all tubas, etc, etc.

Based on what I heard from Crown's horn line last night compared to what I heard on the 12th in Atlanta, something was off.  In Atlanta full horn line ... last night in Murfreesboro lots of holes.  Covid hit the horn line?  Don't know?

Last night, Blue Devils horns were clearly the best. Agree with the scoring.

  4. Just some thoughts from last night's show in Murfreesboro ... which is where I grew up.

A large DCI show has been at MTSU ( few years at Vandy) since 1999.  This was the most poorly run show I've ever attended.

Up to this year, each show was always ran smoothly.  Always a great experience each season.

Based on the fans there, the show was sold out.

The decision to only have one entrance into the stadium was poorly executed.  There was no communication.  The line snaked through the parking lot at least a mile long.

A friend who was able to get into the stadium earlier said they had only one person scanning tickets when he went through the gate.

Oh and in the line, there was a group that decided they would break which caused many of us to almost loose our cool.

    Thankfully the show was delayed.

As for the Corps performances last night!

    Love each and every Corps.

    Entertained!  Surprised!  Satisficed!

So happy to see the Corps on the field during a live performance!

DCI has been part of my summers since 1977.  I'm grateful to the dedication of the marching members and the staffs to pulling together a great season for us fans!

    2. Brass? Did Crown have a bad night? They certainly have the most talented hornline in DCI this year. Their show design does not highlight them nearly enough- but I would expect them to max out that achievement score.

Honestly, I thought missing horn members hurt Crown last night.  I counted at least 5.  There may have been more.

  6. Also heard the back ground of the change in venue.  I really hope they keep Midtown High School in the schedule moving forward.  Having the sunset over the Midtown Atlanta Skyscrapers with the Corps on the field was beautiful!

Enjoyed visiting with the Crown fans who sat behind us!

I had forgotten how much more I enjoy Drum Corps at smaller venues.  Such a great evening!

  7. Michael Boo = Drum Corps.  I always loved reading his blogs about the shows.  I exchanged several messages here on DCP and would always le him know how much he was appreciated.

Michael would always set the record straight if he knew the truth.

RIP Michael.  You will be missed.
