  1. a) The souvie people you spoke with are more than likely not aware of the G7 proposal. They, like the performers, live in sort of a bubble during the summer. This is simply not true!!!
  2. Trombone mute will fit, however they are bigger and therefore quite a bit heavier than a trumpet mute. It really throws the balance of the mellophone off, with all the weight being so far out in front. I found, for me, it is much better to wrap a sock around the base of a trumpet mute. It fits very well and I don't have to worry about scratches. I often play late at night when everyone else is asleep, and a Silent Brass trumpet mute (with sock), doesn't bother anyone.
  3. As one who goes back and forth between a Euphonium (using a 51D mouthpiece) and a Mellophone (using 6V mouthpiece - I know it's small, but I love that sweet "mello" sound it gives), I can tell you it's not nearly as difficult as it seems like it should be. As someone mentioned earlier, I have also found it extremely important to put in at least a few minutes on each horn, each day. Although my "primary" practice horn may change from day to day, I always leave time to play the other at least a little. Unlike some of the others, I started with the bigger horn, and later added the smaller one. Like them, I have seen (ok, heard) a definite improvement in tone. I also learned to much better stay in tune from note to note, without using the slides. And I can play killer pedal tones on the mellophone... much to the dismay of some with a lot more experience than I have on the horn. This is Phantom... the Buick... you know they wouldn't mess with it if they couldn't do it right. I can't wait to see this part of their show.
  4. So, Amazing, what is your status? Have you figured out a way to make it work? Are you still looking for financial help? Let us know...
  5. I received an email back from Joe Murphy (I emailed him through loudmouthpieces.com)... he said Mello mouthpieces are definately on the way... looking at 2 weeks. Even I can wait that long!
  6. Good Luck!!! Hopefully someone(s) will pick up on, & be able to take advantage of, this...
  7. OK, so the Trumpet mouthpieces are ready, but what happened to the Mellophones??? I don't find any mention of them at all, now... It did say Trumpets AND Mellophones before, didn't it? Also, anyone know anything about the Karl Hammond mouthpieces the Bluecoat Mellophones are using this year?
  8. I see more than 1 of the corps are selling the Yamaha YMP-203MS mellophones that they just got last November, (& really haven't even used yet) and are replacing them with Yamaha's new YMP-204MS, that was just announced. Wasn't the 203 a new model announced in Jan. 2005? Did the corps have a problem with them? They seem to be selling them for a pretty good price... especially given their lack of use/abuse... unless they have a problem.
  9. I was able to get a UMI Mello 6 from the Carolina Crown store. It doesn't show on their site, but since they had mpcs for all the rest, I called... I got it in 3 days. It sure does make a difference in the sound... though I still wish it were a little bigger... and I still wish we knew more about the IYM... I have a hard time justifying that much money to try it "blind". Oh well, I am getting used to the UMI... It's worth it for the sound!
  10. Thanks xstevex, I appreciate the 1st hand information... I also agree that both of your points, price and recognized company, are exactly right. Either one by itself would have have been bad enough... but both together... and not being able to find any specs...
  11. As sweet and pure as the Cav's mello line sounded last year, I can't believe there isn't more awareness of this (IYM/Kerchner) mouthpiece... Maybe I should have put IYM &/or Kerchner or Cavs in the Topic Title. I just wish I could find out the size, relative to the 6V, before I order one.
  12. Does anyone have any experience with, or know anything about, the IYM Corp. mellophone mouthpieces that you can get through the Cavaliers web site? I can't find any info or specs anywhere... I like the sound of the 6v, but sure would like something a little bigger!
  13. Does anyone have any experience with, or know anything about the IYM Corp. mellophone mouthpieces that you can get through The Cavaliers web site?
  14. What is the status of your Euph? Is it still available?
  15. I'm very interested in the baris... please send information. Thanks, Bob ctbari@sbcglobal.net
