  1. Wow, guys...I am glad I took a look here on DCP. I don't read it anymore, nor do I follow drum corps anymore, but I figured that maybe I should do a search on 'rotator cuff', and I found this thread. I started having shoulder problems this past winter, and went to the same surgeon that re-attached the tendon in my left wrist (thanks Kevlar heads!) in 2006. I switched to baritone in 1991, when I started to have wrist problems from playing snare. I never would have guessed that playing a baritone would cause so much damage to my right shoulder. The Dr. suggested PT first, which didn't work, then a minor procedure to clean up the calcium deposits that were found. That was the middle of May, and I was able to march in the Memorial Day parades with no problem. The pain came back in June, and in some different spots, and in the form of a painful cramp. I guess that is a telltale sign of a rotator cuff injury. I went to the Dr. last week (it took from mid-July to get an appointment..this guy is good), and I will be having rotator cuff surgery in early November. Everybody is saying this will take months to recover. Thanks for the info, and I also thank drum corps for messing me up even more! I think this will probably be the end of my drum corps career as well :(
  2. I am looking forward to seeing everybody at the show on Saturday! I have never seen the Bridgemen live! I'm going to be VERY excited to see them! As I remember, Steel City and Bucs had a great relationship back in the day! I remember partying with Reading at the Howard Johnson's in Scranton...the one with the huge deck that all of the rooms opened up to. Is there a party after the show?
  3. Who???? It's going to take more than that to get me out of retirement and drive four and a half hours!!!!
  4. About FRIGGIN' time some people joined Cru! .....and I am NOT marching anymore! I might make it up for a rehearsal, though......
  5. For sure....Yeah, Poopsie was one of the best. I decided after a bad night with medication that I am staying home. The weather was the deciding factor; I don't need to be out in the rain right now. :(
  6. Gene, those are cataracts, NOT sunglasses! LOL! Some of us from Steel City are being pimped 'aht for CorpsVets honor guard. I have never marched with them before, but several have marched for 5 years or so. I may be there, I may not be....I have been plagued with a nasty bronchial infection for the past 2 weeks. I am not coming if I dont feel better by friday morning! It figures, I quit smoking and I still get sick. All I know is that I cant party like I usually do this weekend, and it really stinks!
  7. OMG, I was almost peeing my pants!!!! I laughed into my horn, and it went "BLAAAT", then I couldn't play anymore. What a cluster fu*k that was that night!
  8. There is nothing in Butler but a handful of little kids banging on drums and tooting on horns for parades. The corps still runs a gigantic money making bingo and has a corps hall and another corps hall for rehearsing. There have been two senior corps to come out of the General Butler organization in the last 10 years (Butler Soundwave and Nightstorm). The thing is, Andy has to spend that money that is generated from the bingo! Yes, that would be a great place to start a senior corps, plus it's 20 minutes from my house.
  9. Some of you may have heard that that Denny Graham, Director of the Steel City Ambassadors Alumni, has been quite ill lately. He has been in the hospital for months and has had many things happen including a stroke and various infections. I believe Tom Mahan is the director now, with others pitching in. Please keep Denny in your prayers. He's one of the good guys. The following is from our webmaster: Most Corps members know that Denny Graham is in Mercy Hospital in bad shape. He has underwent at least 2 operations since November and has some bad complications. On top of that his employer has laid him off stopping all his benefits. Bills are piling up for him and his family. Last Sunday we had a collection for Denny and we are setting up a fund to help out with his bills. Anyone wishing to contribute can send their donations to: SCA "Denny's Fund" Steel City Ambassadors P.O. Box 1661 Monroeville, Pa. 15146
  10. Jeff, I recall that back when Soundwave left Butler for West Virginia in 1995 (Appalachin Brass?), that we just bought 4 or so flugals. They came from Devils through the Brass Factory. Did you try Andy Yaracs up in Butler? How about the Marion Cadets? (Whatever they are called now).
  11. Hey, this link is not working! Some of us from Steel City are going to Tubachristmas on Sat the 10th. I have been playing in Tubachristmas with my bugle off and on since 1994. Funny, one of the people from Steel called the Tubachistmas people and asked about bugles and they said that they frowned upon them! I have the fingerings for the transpositions written in my Tubachristmas book.
  12. Genvieve Danis from Brigs is the most incredible musician I have ever played in an ensemble with! Gorgeous tone! (like buttah). I didnt know a baritone bugle could sound that rich. Sops would have to be Curt. I marched with him in Steel City in 1989-90, and when I heard him playing in Cabs I couldn't believe how great he sounded! A nod to all the horn guys from General Butler that were fantastic (Curt, Ed Lewis, Pat Cavanaugh, Rabbit and their teacher...RIGGIE!) Man, what was in the water up there in Butler? Put Pat Cavanaugh down for best french horn....He made that piece of junk horn sound musical! He and Curt were DCI solo champs the same year! (late 70s or early 80s; I cant remember). He needs to get his BUTT to Steel City Alumni! Mellos....hmmm....I sure liked the guy from Cru in 1993??? I know he was Dan Shyne's brother (oooo....Dan...another great baritone soloist!)
  13. :spit: Omygod! I forgot about that!!!!!! You guys are never gonna stop! HEY DA....what the heck is your email????
  14. NICKTAHOU CADETS!!!!! Yeah! I like it! Howya doin' Timmy!?!?
  15. OMG, I remember marching Macy's in 1994, and riding the bus with Sky's American Section!!!! I never heard old people say the f-word before! What fun people!!!! Great stories!
