  2. Don't forget about his nice collection of knives he would bring to rehearsal.
  3. Tenor Sax Player for BBVD Karl Hunter marched VK in the pit. He was a graduate of Dos Pueblos High School and his dad was my math teacher at Goleta Valley Jr High. He stopped by my high school my senior year and like a true band dork, I got him to sign my drill sheets.
  4. 99 regiment was off the chain, i heard the loudest they could play was mf because they would drown out the rest of the hornline, i also heard that that was the only year they stole the SAK from the buicks..... I think its bc Windham aged out the year before
  5. the TAN feature on our Kanstul Contras at Spirit was a life saver. We had a lot of Db's and C's that registered about 30 cents sharp. With the TAN feature we would kick out our slides and get those notes in tune. Basically anything involving the third valve on those horns required the TAN feature.
  6. I love playing bass bone, especially during jazz band. I love having that huge bore size so I can really move the air. I got lucky on my horn, I found a Holton TR 181 in perfect condition for 600 bucks.
  7. are they Bb's or G's? We use the Bb Kanstul's at spirit and had a hard time trying to figure out how to hold them last year. We mash the valves with the right hand and have the left hand on the pipe that sticks out the farthest. On the Bb's there is a curve about half way through the pipe, which is where we put our left hand. From there you can get good leverage to snap the horn up. At trail we hold the pipe that is for the third valve. They are pretty awkward horns to hold, but its worth it.
  8. I always have had a death wish-- ]:-)
  9. For Div II Vanguard Cadets are using Bb trumpets, but G everything else
  10. theres nothing sexier than a euph chick :D
