  1. The sFz snares go for around $400 brand new, you should be able to find an old snare for much cheaper on ebay.
  2. The most interesting comment was that today we are judging 2011 shows based on 2002 sheets. If you think about it this is a smart move to make sure that the sheets stay relevant to what is happening today.
  3. I can't wait to see the show this summer.
  4. Hey guys, So the band director I teach for has finally agreed to go ahead with amplification of the pit next year. I know that Shure SM57's are standard for micing, and we have a good speaker system, but I know very little about mixing boards. I know that Jim Casella and Jim Ancona recommend the Mackie 1402-VLZ and Soundcraft Spirit E12 (Source: "Up Front" Tapspace Publications), but does anyone have an different opinions on mixing boards? Regards, Evan
  5. Thanks, I marched 2002-04, those were three great years.
  6. I'm glad to see the Raiders still going strong, good luck this year Tommy and the rest of the crew. A great deal has changed since I was there, and I am glad to see it's all been positive.
  7. Name: Evan Kempey Gender: Male What age were you when you marched: 16-18 What age are you now: 22 Which instrument did you march/play: Timpani (2002-2003)/Marimba (2004) Which corps is you favorite (besides your own): Santa Clara Vanguard What is your (intended) college major/degree in: Music Education Which corps did you march with: Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps What years: 2002-2004 Why did you join drum corps: Because I saw it first on PBS in '99, and wanted to do it. What was your best experience: Victory concert at the Garden State Circuit Finals in 2002 (last year the circuit existed). Do you intend to continue to support DCI after you retire from competition: Yes.
  8. I like nice bright cymbals, so I tend to go with some Sabian Suspended 16" (1), 18"(3), 20"(2), and then some 22" Rides (at least 2), and 20" Crash cymbals (at least 2 pairs).

  10. Obviously, but for however many years it has been since the PBS broadcast ceased, there has been no mention at all of the corps lower than 12th place in div 1, or 2/3 at all! At least acknoweledge to kids performing in a way that you actually acknoweledge them. Just my $4.37
  11. No mention of division 2/3, BIG thumbs down in my book. <**>
  12. IMO, damp finger (middle is preferred), synthetic head (rosined). I really don't use the thumb anymore because of the awkwardness involved in releasing a roll with a tap, or accent at the end. With your thumb, you have to twist your hand over to do this whereas with a finger, it comes naturally. This is especially useful if after a roll, eighth notes or other note values are needed directly after a roll. I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but hopefully it helps.
