  5. Empire Statesmen won high brass in 1990 and 1991. I have the recaps someplace. I recall it was Bob Zazzara that had a large spread on the field sheet.
  6. Saturday, August 29th, 4 or more Corps will parade in Roseto, PA. see link: http://www.columbiafireco.org/parade.html
  7. I'll miss ya "Foster". Condolences to his loved ones. The Martins
  8. Jeff, I did have the Naval Hymn on floppy!
  9. I've never marched or played in a marching band. I have been a marching band director for several, also done some arranging and instruction, but No marching. My dad Harvey, started in corps in 1937 and my mom Shirley, was a DM in the late 1940's were she met Harvey. I was born into corps, attending every practice and contest on the Grey Knights' schedule in the 50's. The Martin family combined, has been active well over 200 years in corps. Of the four brothers, three are currently still involved. Tim is on the executive board of the Carolina Crown, Garry is on the board of the Rochester Crusaders and I am the director/performer of the Hit Men Brass Band. I guess it's in the genes (blood) and not easily gotten rid of, anyway we love it!
  10. Regretfully, The Hit Men will not appear at the DCA I&E this year. All participants should be required to adhere to the competition rules. Contest administrators, in fairness to all involved, need to seriously investigate all rule infractions then follow up with the appropriate determination. These rules have not been taken serious or enforced in the past. Below is from the DCA I&E Rules. SECTION 7 - INDIVIDUAL AND ENSEMBLE COMPETITION GENERAL RULES AND PHILOSOPHY 1. All contestants must be a member of a past or present All Age Competitive Corps or active member of an Alumni Corps. In accordance to the rules, the 2008 Hit Men Brass Band are not eligible to compete due to one member's lack of participation in All Age/Alumni Corps. We wish all entrants great performances with the hope that this evenings event is conducted according to it's established rules. We look forward to entertaining you in the future. Have a Wonderful DCA weekend.
  11. Tony, Thank you for the kind words, although they are contrary to the dozens in the audience, who went out of their way to share positive accolades. BTW, have you ever heard of the musical terms: musicianship, tone quality, blend or balance? They are used to describe musical performances. Try using some of them when you write your second musical performance review. I'll bet you're a drummer! Where are you performing next? I'd love to come and listen. Well Tony, Happy 33rd Birthday...... Musically Yours, David Martin, Director The Hit Men Brass Band
  12. The Martin's Party Central is once again at the Royal Inn Rt. 96 at I90 Victor. Stop out and have a drink!
  13. Roy was a prince of a man. He always had time for everyone, even a 5 year old kid (me) back in 1955. He was a very close friend of the Martin's and we will miss him. Now Harvey has someone to play that little baritone with. God Bless Roy.
  14. Personally, July 5th was one of the greatest moments of the 50 plus years I have been in drum corps. I thank all of the All Stars for making the performance an "over the top" success. Huge "KUDOS" to the committee whose hard work and effort gave life to the All Star idea. And to my friend and mentor, Big "V", the man with the vision, the know how and the determination to birth this great organization, The Empire Statesmen. Vince and Michele Bruni (1991)
  15. I thought the Rochester audience was extremely responsive to all the programs tonight. It was a magic night at St. John Fisher. I hope the participants got that feeling also.
  16. All the groups looked and sounded great! But the Empire All-Stars stoled the show. What a blast!
  17. I think the Crusaders play "Bb/F" Dynasty's and Empire plays "G" Dynasty's. (I could be mistaken) Personally, I've played every brand of drum corps small bore instrument available and always came back to my Dynasty. When the Hit Men switched to Dynasty "Bb/F", the immediate improvement in tone quality, intonation and especially blend was amazing. We love our Dynasty's! ......Plus the relationship with Mark and Al makes Dynasty even better.
  18. Dear Crusaders, The Hit Men have 1 Bb tuba, 2 Bb baritones, 2 F mello's and several Bb trumpets on hand if you need them this weekend. Sorry about your misfortune. I hope they catch those arsholes. David
  19. I look forward to the opportunity of playing with all my long time friends at the July 5th home show. This will be a special moment and everyone should make the effort to participate. Hell, I can't imagine playing at the 50th anniversary performance in 2033. Well maybe....let's see.......now I'm 58 yrs. old + 25 more yrs. = 83yrs.old? I'd better save a few notes. You never know? See you July 5th @ St. John Fisher, David Martin
  20. Alumnus came from all over, Rhode Island, Florida, PA. and Ottawa. I'm sure many more folks traveled long distances that I didn't hear about. Lot's of fun!
  21. I just wanted to thank the Alumni Committee for organizing the wonder event I attended tonight! I'll bet you never thought that many Empire alums would show up. I was shock at the numbers. It was wonderful seeing my old friends again. Thanks you for coming out. See you all at the July 5th home show, and let's wail! David Martin, '83-'91
  22. Joe, I'll never forget the Purple Lancers performance at the '74 DCI in Ithaca. Your show was years ahead of it's time. Corky did a masterful job with his pen. My brother Tim was playing lead that year. Best of luck with this venture. Musically Yours, David Martin
