  1. So i dont know if anyone still reads this... but to those are you who trash talk or downgrade others opinions or other corps: just remember we allllll know who you are associated with. Youre the dummy that put it in your little signature at the bottom. Ill be the first to tell you i dont give a #### about you personally...but look at the reputation youre giving to your corps. its a shame, for everyone who, to this day, puts so much effort, energy, money and time into making sure your old organization, your old roots, remains successful...its a shame that they have #### like this to put up with. The select few of you who chose to be rude, unsupportive, and at times simply jerks to other people/corps, AND have the audacity to proudly display your home corps, you should be ashamed. and moreover, those who are currently a part OF those corps should be even more ashamed, if not, ###### off that someone who proudly considers themself an alumni is completely and utterly creating and adding to a negative reputation....one post at a time. think. for god's sake, think before you speak.
  2. if the corps chooses to limit their tour schedule, they will deal with the consequences of not having as much exposure time and as much suggestion by judges. Its the same give and take argument. What you give is what you get. The more you wanna get, the more you have to give. Why is it even a problem? i dont understand. And btw, many of you, especially those arguing against the limited tour idea, clearly do not understand how DCI works: With the exception of Regional shows, DCI had almost nothing to do with what corps go where, or to how many shows. Each show that is put on (again, with the exception of Regionals) is sponsored by a major company or group of companies. For every Div 1 corps to show up, that sponsor must fork over x amount of dollars. For every div 2, y amount of dollars, and div 3, z amount of dollars. Corps apply for shows. Based on whatever basis, they are told yes you can come, or no you cannot. One of those factors is can the sponsor afford it? Many times the answer is no. Thus, some corps cannot take a full tour, especially if youre a new corps and the demand or want for you isnt quite as high as many others. (and to those who STILL argue the San Antonio showtimes....if a corps is denied mini shows leading up to the Atlanta Regional, why would the spend the money they dont even have to drive from the west coast allll the way to atlanta, just to drive allll the way back, and a week later drive all the way back to san antonio? its impossible unless they were ALLOWED to participate in the mini shows leading up to the regionals...because theyd be paid by the sponsors to get them there. no show = no sponsor to give $$ = no money to travel extravagant distances.) My point is, THERES MORE TO THIS THAN MEETS THE EYE. Dont jump to conclusions. Dont judge an entire organization for something that is quite possibly beyond their control... and most importantly... stop being so fricken harsh towards other corps. What is it about this activity that sets it apart from most other competitive sports? Idno what youve personally gotten from it, but i learned about the Camaraderie and being a Better person in life. I guess its pretty clear many of you missed that part of DCIs mission. " Drum Corps International delivers the message of “excellence in performance and in life” "
  3. taken from DCIs site: From modest beginnings more than three decades ago, Drum Corps International has developed into a powerful, nonprofit, global youth activity with far-reaching artistic, educational and organizational influence. Through the annual Summer Music Games Tour and more than 35 World Championships in 16 North American cities, Drum Corps International provides entertainment to millions through live performances and nationally-televised events, now presented on ESPN2. Drum Corps International is Marching Music’s Major League™.
  4. we had a guy quit in feb of the 04 season. he claims, to this day, to have marched that year. we ALL respond to it with, "are you f***ing kidding?!" why do some people choose to be the way they are? we may never know.

  6. yelling is not good for a few reasons. 1) if you hold auditions to find the kids that YOU want to march in YOUR corps, you should pick kids based much on how well they take critique and apply corrections, based on their attitude and their commitment to being excellent. (obviously among other things as well). Yelling creates attitudes, creates drama, people take it personally, doesnt work. 2) I dont know how many psychology people are out there, but lets relate this to a parent screaming at a child. The occassional yell jolts the child into reacting to their parents wish. However, if a parent yells and screams often, that child will no longer react to the yelling. The yelling becomes what we call positive reinforcement. The child expectx that from the parent and will often even try to get the parent to scream...its an attention thing. Though the goal of the yelling it to change or "motivate" everyone to "push harder," constant yelling slowly becomes the norm and is eventually expected to be heard from the staff. Now, no one will even respond in the least bit from normal talking corrections because they expect to hear yelling, thing only get done with yelling. So then the question is asked, how do you get a point across if yelling is now the norm? whats the next push for a jolt from the corps? make sense? but in all, yelling is bad. just gives a bad vibe. no need to scream, chose people who respond and dont have such an ego that their way is the right way. thats how the corps i march does it, and weve had quite the success.
  7. Has anybody ever been correct with their pre-season predictions? I thought it might be interesting to see how close people actually get to what they predict so early.
  8. if everyones just gunna sit here and 1) argue the past 2) argue something already argued and 3) and this goes for everyone, CONTINUE to egg on the argument by rebutal, then i vote they close this thread. Rebutal only feeds the fire. Im sure we ALL know whats really up, and even if some dont know what to think, who really fricken cares. honestly. Grow up, get over it, move on, and most importantly... ENJOY THE ACTIVITY! The only people who should be concerned about the competition aspect is the judges, and MAYBE the corps admin. Were the sport of the arts, and art is meant to be enjoyed. Who cares about a some number/a couple peoples opinions on a sheet of paper....and if thats all you care about, maybe you forgot what this is all about. peace.
  9. Mark is by far one of the greatest instructors as well as one of the coolest, most chill people ive ever met. he will, without a doubt, do wonders with the corps. if any of you get a chance to see him over the next few seasons on tour or whatever, i highly suggest sayin hey to him! just an all around good guy. best of luck to the scouts and mark, i look forward to the beginning of a whole new chapter to the scouts history! ^OO^
  10. I find it slightly amusing that you say how "If you run your mouth or act rudely you are representing your corps in a negative way" and yet, after "running your mouth" you say at the end how you do not represent your corps. A signature on here weighs the same as "wearing your jacket, t-shirt, or ring." Lets think before we talk. Then maybe I'll listen. <**>
  11. BigBadJosh, hate to say it, but youre only adding a bit of petty shame by whining and continuing to argue an empty argument. honestly who gives a crap? forget about it. I also notice you marched ECJ this year. is it me or are ECJ kids the only ones complaining, or the only ones trying to justify their defeat??? Its a shame, and to be honest, up until after championships, i had a lot more respect for the ECJ kids. Hate to say it, but that respect is going down the tubes rather quickly. Good Lord! This is getting fricken annoying as ####! Dont get me wrong though, Ive talked to a couple of them privately and they are pretty cool. The ones that are ruining it can thank people like Leadsop or TSRTS for trying to keep everyone under check and pretty much keeping -- im sure at least a few people -- still respectful of you guys. And if you dont want to thank them, ill be more than happy to do so for you, cause i personally appreciate it. I suggest to the Forum Monitor they close this thread before it becomes another ridiculously unessessary internet argument.
  12. Ill be quite honest here, and probably end up going on a fairly long rant here. Ive been reading these forum posting for quite a while, pretty much just to see what talk is going on and keeping my nose out of everyones business. However, since championships, i think something needs to be said about the "class" and "professionalim" we as corps members, alumni, friends, fans and family have been exuding. With that said, when people rant and rave, or downsize and diminish a corps, whether it be the people, the organization, the show/repertoire, or anything, thats totally fine with me personally. I dont necessarily agree with it, but hey, whats a chatroom good for if we cant boast our opinions. I mean, lets be honest, if I didnt believe that, id be quite hypocritical to be writing this whole novel, right? However, the thing that irks me more than ANYTHING on this entire website is when people talk crap about other corps, its members, and its achievement and have a username that promotes their corps, have a signature that shows their marching years, and have the balls to put their organizations reputation at the mercy of their personal opinion. Now, if that didnt make sense to you, let me use examples. I believe there are a core group of maybe 3 or 4 people in this forum who choose to bash the champions of 2006, specifically in Div II/III. I dont know how many of you pay attention to these postings/authors of these postings, but in every one of them there is some sort of clue that they are either a recent past or even current member of the ECJ organization. Allow me to quote a few examples of exactly what Im talk about, this first one being from ECJGuard4L (up until she recenly deleted it): "So I hate to get into this because the people I met from Academy, minus a few, were really nice and I have nothing against them personally. But the show wasn't good. They barely moved, they only jazz ran while they weren't playing (take a look at ECJ ...they ran AND played at the same time...and they did it a lot), the hornline sounded good because they were loud and clean but the music was incredibly boring. The whole show was boring. I only got to watch from the side, but feet were pretty dirty, especially considering they weren't moving much. From what I remember, the tempos seemed easy to handle as well. The colorguard would never stand a chance in div 1. They couldn't keep their hands on their equipment, had poor technique, and the book wasn't at all difficult. Anyone wonder why their score dropped significantly from semis to finals? Academy...the MOST overrated drum corps of 2006...you couldn't have paid me to be in that show. But like I said at first, they were all really nice and I don't want anyone to take this as a personal attack on the members of Academy. For the sake of members, I hope that if they do try to go div 1 someone completely overhauls their design and visual/colorguard technique programs." Great, you didnt like a certain corps show this year, who cares, thats your opinion. However, if I remember the tour scheduling correctly, ECJ didnt even meet up with this corps until Madison...AND, ECJ went on 2 corps before Academy at each show, so, knowing how drum corps works, there was no time ECJGuard4L would have even had time to stop and watch or even listen to Academy. Yes? Furthermore, you decided to compare your corps to another corps in the efforts of underminding your competitor. IMO, absolute shame on you. Yeah, this is your opinion, but you poorly represent your organization as being past world champions, and i frown to other members of the corps for allowing you to be so inconsiderate. We, and by we I mean a good handful, perhaps more, take this activity as an enormous competition. And i dont necessarily mean that as being on a scored basis, i mean it more as in a hardheaded one on one battle between one another. I read people constantly bickering, arguing, getting in mini battles over such small, indecent topics. Be more receptive of peoples accomplishments, DCI crowned "champions" or not. Its been said on here before, we all put forth the same effort day in and day out. No need for bashing. When i joined this DCI community, i thought i joined an organization that promoted good morals, achievements and talent across the board. The more I read postings on this site, and see people from specific organizations bashing on their counterparts in the entire DCI family, I lose a bit more respect for both the activity and those specific organizations. So please, i beg you, be more mindful of how what you say could affect who you represent. Opinions are great, just think before you speak. And i hope you take that as a life lesson. Thank you, and sorry such a long post...
