Strange to hear a different corps playing Imagine, nice job though.

Could be the fact that their show design style has shifted dramatically from the very intellectual, groundbreaking shows of 2008-2013 to the more light-hearted, entertaining shows of 2014-now.
You mean like their shows before 2008 when they had an even stronger “it” factor and swagger....? 😉

It’s wild to think Blue Devils haven’t won a regional since 2017. They definitely are not weaker, I just think other corps have really started to step up.
I’d disagree a bit. BD hasn’t really had the “ it factor” they used to have, for a little while now. I’m not sure what’s different in their approach, but there’s definitely something different. Other corps have indeed stepped it up though.

It pains me to say it, but I actually agree with the judges on the placement of the top 3 corps. Coats have the most competent design, Devils do some good stuff but the show design loses clarity as it goes on, and while Vanguard performs well, the show seems maxed out and like they’re just adding generic visual elements to try to keep up.

Bluecoats have such a well designed show and it entertains! (...novel idea...) Both BD and Vanguard’s shows are just so scatter-brained and feel like they’re just trying to tick the boxes on the sheets while ‘Coates show is really cohesive and is solidly built to both entertain and showcase the corps members’ abilities. They definitely deserve their placement.

So, they just kind of give up on marching at the end of that show. The body movement at the very end just looks generic and like they tried to hide the fact that they’re not doing anything for way too long at the end.

Blue Stars just make me think, “Cavaliers, The Great Divide Part 2.” Lol
Cool show though!

What is is it? I caught it for maybe the first time tonight.
It’s from an album by Sam Cardon and Kurt Bestor called “Innovators.” They’re mostly film composers from Utah that my parents when to school with and then worked with in the recording industry for a long time, but they also did a bunch of new age jazz in the late 80’s into the 90’s. This is from that collaboration. Their live concerts were always good, the musicians that played with them were world class studio musicians!

Weird to hear a that little chant clip toward the end of Genesis show, as it’s from an obscure album my parents worked on like 30 years ago! Lol
I wonder who found it.

cavies aren't quite as strong visually as i thought they would be
i still love it, but watching hi cam, they'd have to do a lot to fulfill my top 4 prediction
no way i'd count them out of anything, though. percussion and brass are so f'n cool in this show.
Agreed. Their marching is not strong this year plus the lack of headgear really negatively impacts form readability (that goes for all corps though). A very cool show though!

Well, I never thought I’d say it about Vanguard, but they lost me. Also, the costumes are the worst thing I’ve seen on a football field. Ugh. The music sounds great though and they’re super clean for June, so that’s pretty awesome at least.
-
What in the world happened to Cavies’ marching technique?!?

Academy looks really sharp, the uni’s look like something Star of Indiana would wear. The really need shakos though, specially with the capes...the uniform looks incomplete and they look short without having a shako with tall plume
-
Not a fan of the uniforms, they look cheap and incomplete, and it’s really weird to see them march bicycle step, but props for not using props!
-
Ugh, of all the corps that should be sticking with a uniform at least resembling something traditional, it really should be Troopers

Oh, them.
Yeah, it wasn't as uncommon in the 70's and 80's.
What wasn’t as uncommon?

Oh, them. That was a different era.
Also Cascades 2002....I guess that was another era now too. Star and Cascades are the only two corps to have made finals their first year in Division 1/World Class. Academy got close their first year I believe, but so far no one else has done it. I feel honored to share that stat with such a storied corps! Fun fact, we had Star’s old equipment and kitchen trucks that year. You could even see the old Star logo under the paint if you looked close enough.

Is Music City's ranking in their debut World Class year one of the highest ever?
Not particularly, but it was still a great entry!

I find it impossible to not like Carolina Crown. They could do a show about grass and I would love it.

There's something special about watching the Cadets end their show with the Z-Pull in Allentown, I wish I could have been there in person! After everything that has happened this year, it's such a great way to connect with the best of their history and move past the worst.

Doesn't seem that hard to do. A lot going on in the area schools on a Fri. night in early August, in the schools they are already in? Are the Sat. corps in alternate sites?
Don't say that until you have tried to arrange housing at the last minute, even just for a second night in the same place. Trust me, it's a nightmare generally. We had to stay an extra night in Allentown last year because of a bus issue and even though we were really fortunate that the school/district allowed us to stay, it was not a simple thing by any means. Also, I think we weren't allowed to use the practice field the next day. Aside from just the housing site availability, it also affects the drive the following night and could create a situation that the drivers are unable to do.

Ok, well do your research Flo team, but whatever score Music City reaches, the highest score for a first year World Class has to be Star ‘85...
True. 85.5 for Star that year, a little more than a point higher than our (Cascades) 2002 entry into div.1 score of 84.05. Still the only two corps to make finals their first year in Division 1/World Class.

First DCI headline of the 2023 tour...after a long off season and incredibly awkward NFL season, Troopers drum major finally arrives front and center. No word on how long it will take for him to get back to Casper.
