  1. And of course, a BIG congratulations to all 2010 inductees! Is anyone going to post a play by play? Joey
  2. DCPers, A BIG thanks to all involved who made last night a booming success. My band and I had a Crazy time performing for a very appreciative crowd. A huge shout out to Margaret Anderson for Defying Gravity with her incredible coordination skills. Margaret's hard work and dedication made for the smoothest Drum Corps show I've ever had the privilage of performing at. Curt was surely looking down, Wrapt with emotion, listening to the power and finesse of Mighty St. Joe's very talented 2010 ranks. Joe's performed a variety to music from their past, as well as some new, groovy music. Performing such tunes as Children of Sanchez (via Chuck Mangione 1978), brass arranger/guru Donny Allen has fused a unique, old meets new sound that illuminated the classic audience, though late in the evening. Although I wasn't able to see everyone who performed last evening, I know that every group certainly brought their brand of Resonance to the table! I was able to hear Prime Time Brass from a distance. Led by Chris "Scooter" Castellon, Prime Time offers a fantastic amalgamation of Drum Corps and entertainment based Jazz. PTB has a full compliment of true musicians who are breaking barriers and entertaining crowds at a very high level! BRAVO! My band and I had the pleasure of watching the Ghost Riders from parts unknown prior to our show. Under the tutelage of Donny Allen, GR made it look easy, spouting off a variety of very creative music, true-to-form for their western-meets-entertainment vibe. Joey Pero band member, bassist Jeff Little was quoted saying "man, these guys can gallop". Great soloists and solid on stage branding makes Ghost Riders a force to be reckoned with in the DCA/MCA circuit and beyond. A special thanks to Bob Wielgosz, Doug Mellenthine, Robert "Sully" Sullivan and Larry Keppel for bringing us in and making sure we had everything we needed to make our show dynamite. Impeccable coordination folks! Thank you, thank you! Stay tuned for more. Joey Pero

Joey
  7. Dear DCPers, I hope this post finds you all well! I wanted to let the board know that I had the honor of being featured in the May 2010 issue of DownBeat magazine. The article, written by Phil Lutz, includes some Drum Corps references; in addition to some fantastic quotes by friend and mentor Wynton Marsalis. Read the article here. You may also pick up a hard copy of DownBeat at your local Barnes & Noble book store. I look forward to seeing you all at the Curt Anderson Memorial Classic hosted by Might St. Joe's Alumni this Saturday! 8. A big congratulations to John and Jessica. I've had the pleasure of being a good friend of John's over the past several years. He is a gem of a person, fantastic trumpet player and thoughtful teacher. It's minds like his that move our approach to education towards the future. I'm very happy to see this post! The "give and take" in life can been a struggle. I know John is the kind of guy that only moves forward with the upmost integrity and grounding...and his drumcorps family will be right there with him! Here's to your new phase of life man!
  9. I've had the pleasure of knowing Paul for many years through the St. Joe's organization. He always offered the very best guidance, expressed of course as only he could! I don't think I've ever laughed as hard after seeing Paul's "Fred Astaire impression." He will be sorely missed. Many condolences to the Neiss family.

  13. Hey Folks, I just thought I'd let you know about my two upcoming shows in NYC. There has been a great showing of support from the Drum Corps community; thanks to all who have come out! We have a fantastic show planned and I hope to see you there! Much Love, Joey Joey Pero at Feinstein's DATES: Thursday, Oct 15, 2009: 7:30PM Friday, Oct 16, 2009: 7:30PM October 15th and 16th, New York’s Feinstein's at the Loews Regency – a celebrated mecca for outstanding music performance - will host world-renown trumpeter Joey Pero and his high-energy ensemble performing selections from his recently released, critically-acclaimed CD, “Resonance.” "This is a very special treat for the band and I to bring “Resonance” from the studio to a live concert audience,” stated Pero, one of the trumpet world’s fastest-rising star performers. “We want to deliver the unique energy and excitement that 'Resonance' is to Feinstein's wonderful audience,” he added. Pero’s CD, "Resonance” launched earlier this summer to rave media reviews. Throughout the CD, Pero displays virtuosity that puts him in an elite category, being compared by critics to trumpet greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Allen Vizzutti, and the late, great jazz trumpeter, Maynard Ferguson - in whose Big Bop Noveau Band Pero spent time touring and sharpening his awesome “chops.” Allaboutjazz.com listed “Resonance” as one of their highest recommended CDs this year and called "Resonance": "Incredible, Fascinating, and Tremendous... Pero is a supreme master of the instrument in both Jazz and classical disciplines, an achievement of grand (and near impossible) proportions." “Resonance” Producer Charles Ressler stated in a recent interview: “Resonance” displays modern jazz and virtuoso musical creativity at its absolute finest.” “Joey Pero has only the brightest of futures ahead of him – and, as great and talented as they are, there are aspects of Joey’s playing that Chris Botti and even the great Wynton Marsalis – Pero’s musical mentor - would envy!” Ressler hailed. Joey Pero and his ensemble consisting of pianist Jon Ware, bassist Jeff Little, drummer Pete Abazia, and accompanied by epic marimba player, Simon Boyar (who produced “Wicked’s” “Defying Gravity” for “Resonance,” and Brubeck's "Blue Rondo") will perform two shows; Feinstein's at the Loews Regency on October 15th and 16th. For further information about Joey Pero and “Resonance,” please visit: JoeyPero.com Get tickets @ Ticketmaster!
  14. A warm greeting to all in the DCA community! past I would first like to thank everyone who came out to support DCA this year. It became apparent to me by day one that there was a certain electricity in the air. The incredible showing at I&E's and mini corps set up the weekend stunningly. Congrats to all participants; it's really awesome to step back and understand the amount of talent that DCA fosters under it's umbrella... and that is what it's all about! Keeping the activity alive 101. present I'd like to also acknowledge every competing and alumni corps who entertained and performed. Everyone's dedication keeps the fans coming back year after year after year. A special thanks to the Empire Statesmen family who always greet me with open arms and an open heart every time; and for being the family that's helped me realize that all dreams are possible. Much love to Fran and Barb for the wonderful words of encouragement (in more ways than one); DCA president Gil Silva, for giving the thumbs up to promote my record "Resonance" throughout the weekend (which surmounted our expectations); Hugs and Kisses to THE best sales force on the continent; representing The New York Skyliners, DCA and Joey Pero were Bob and Carol Holton, Lou and Lorraine Marshello and Patsy and Ray Peters. Kudos to Allen Buell on perfecting the art of running a show smoothly and nailing it every time! There is a LOT to coordinate, and Allen just has the gift. HUGE thanks to Tom Peashey for liaising us with DCA and being a great friend who shows up every time. Thank you Thank you! A special recognition to Canada for excusing the lack of anthem in the first show! Finally, thank you to everyone who came to me with kind words and support, bought a record, screamed from their seats, or bought me a drink. I will pay it back 10 fold and continue to make new music while paying homage to what came before. If I've forgotten anyone, I'll chime in again. future For anyone who lives in the NY Metro area, or would like to take a road trip; I'm pleased to extend an invitation to my next show at NYC's Metropolitan room. My band and I played to a sold out room last Thursday and we hope to do the same next Wednesday, September 30th at 9:30 PM. If you can make it, It will be an honor to have you!
