  1. Every time you see the hornline perform interpretive movements that might have been written by Will Farrell......... DRINK!
  2. And don't forget................ The Seattle Brass Attack! will be opening the show. We're on at eight, so don't be late I'm a poet...........and I don't even know it. :P
  3. When I marched/taught Minnesota Brass my route to Wednesday evening rehearsal (6:30) would have put me on that bridge at about 6:05. I was truly concerned, as anyone from the south end of town likely would do the same today. We are fortunate that this event did not strike our small community. My heart goes out to those who were involved in this tragic occurance - corps related or not.
  4. And that was a cobbled together set of horns. Deg - Dynasty, Olds, King...every type of 2 valve bugle - Frenchies, flugels, mellos, both silver, and nickel plate. Begged, borrowed, and stolen. Btw, sorry for hijacking your Tupelo thread. Somebody make me a lolcorps! Zeke, do you live near Seattle?
  5. Cool. Thanks for listening. That's me playing the bari solo in "Rainmaker"
  6. 1986 Marauders (66 brass) Admittedly, it was in a large banquet room at a hotel (which helped, I'm sure). We measured 130 dB from about 40-50 feet. We probably could have hurt someone. It was the one and only time I remember measuring with a meter. We were going for loud.
  7. The Trooper DM's handling of this situation is simply awsome. The ROTC training showed it's worth. Maybe the Troopers have trained all of their DM's this way over the years, I don't know. I like this. I don't blame the others however, because this is learned behavior. They were not taught. Let's not judge them on this incident. It's a lost tradition. Let's consider it a lesson. This tradition is worthy of revival. Over the years the activity has departed from it's military past. Some organizations more than others. No blaming, just reality. Heck, I marched in a very non "military bearing", fairly irreverant organization that had flags with the zig zag man printed on it. We wore red, white and blue uniforms however, and I think we were patriotic in our own way. Anyhow, this young man just made us all aware that we forgot about something we should all find important. I'm sure everyone wants to do this right. Let's get it fixed. Somebody knowledgeable should document the long established customs and procedures on how to properly respect the flag at Drum Corps functions and submit to DCI. DCI could institute policy. A simple memo would likely suffice to get everyone back on board. I'd bet there would be very little resistance in reviving this lost tradition. Mostly, we all need reminding. The oppurtunity to honor these traditions is greatly diminished now that there are no more cumpulsory honor guards, or retreats......let's make sure what little is left has real meaning. Maybe those "combined hornline" ending to shows could have a color presentation built into them. That would be cool. I miss retreats. Question: Do the Troopers still have a honor guard? Does any Jr. Corps?
  8. Two words: Fiscally responsible. AA is doing the right thing.

  11. Imperials! somebody let me know when we get to M......... I've got two for that one.. Steve
  12. Nice DM uni. I remember you. Tried to PM you but DCP says your email is invalid. Do you happen to live in the Seattle area? Loved those Pirate shows. Very undervalued by the judges. Steve (84-86 Marauders)
  13. This issue is entirely situational. The following is based on real events. Names have been changed to protect the innocent. A good time to enforce rank: Stupid rookie accidently wanders into the BD battery while they are marching to the stadium. He deserves a lesson, and was lucky he got out of the situation unscathed. Jerk truck driver of "another" corps tries to push thru for the simple reason that he thinks he is King #### and wants to start some crap. He ain't getting thru fer nuthin! A bad time to enforce rank: You are filing thru a parking lot after a retreat along with the crowd. You let the interval in front of you open up to 4 steps, and when a young woman steps through you first yell at her, and then get physical. As you grab her by the shoulder she turns around and you find she is carrying an 8 pound infant in her arms. You feel very fortunate you did not do something that you might have never forgiven yourself for, and are now able to manage this rank breaking issue with much more clarity. 1. Don't attack civilians. 2. If you can stop the action in a reasonable fashion you should. (I'd probably let a civillian thru who asked politely, if we were not on the move) 3. Someone who should know better (in a uniform) is putting themselves at risk. 4. Someone who is intentionally breaking ranks to be insulting is fair game. 5. Be practical. It's not healthy to take insult when insult was not intended. That's how I see it.
  14. Wow, a 49.75. Seems like an amazingly low score by today's standards. It's hard to distinguish what has changed in the activity's scoring, and what is just my own romantic youthful memories of my corps experience. If I remember correctly however, I do believe that we pulled into the stadium straight from Seattle with just enough time to line up and perform...that performance being the very first complete run thru of the show, as we had learned the last counts as darkness fell at the rehearsal site in Seattle about 40 hours earlier.
  15. Michael, You are the one with an interesting story to tell...... What the music scene like in China???
  16. I regret not marching my last year. I would have if the Argonauts had not folded. I would like to have gone to Madison, or BD. But......................I would probably not have the same wife and children I have now if I had gone. I guess it was meant to (not) be, as I would not trade them in for anything!!!
  17. Life over............ Oh.......um.....I mean I have 11......Bundys....no JUPITERs Yeah! That's it! :sshh:
  18. Hmmmmm.................. I've got about 11 of those bad boys on hand, and a couple AWOL. However, I don't think your horn could possibly be one of the missing ones. Although all in very good condition, I would not describe any of our K-70's as unmarked, and all our cases had considerable wear.
  19. Yeah, you can't go wrong with a classic. I've got a couple others to pass out as well. Just got done with my own arrangement of Classical Gas I'm pretty psyched about, and I'm working on a motown medley. Steve
  20. Thanks. Well......I suppose the commute from Bakersfield to rehearsal would be excessive, so I won't ask. B) Steve
  21. "Trumpete" Now that's clever. I titled my Community College music recital "TROMBARETICH". ....well, maybe you had to be there for it to be funny. The poster was really cool. BTW, rehearsal has been moved from April 29th to May 6th. We had like 6 guys unable to attend on the 29th (several to San Antonio, Dave to Madison for a BOD meeting, Everett had a gig, opening day for Gerrard, the Fishaholic), and no conflicts on May 6th. Hope that does not throw a monkey wrench into your plans. Rehearsal wiill be at the Shorline Historical Museum from 1-4pm. Might want to talk to Ron Phillips about a car pool. I really appreciate all the extra work driving up from Portland. You guys are a major asset to the group. Steve
  22. Yeah, I wish we had a few more over this way.
