  1. My favorite Christmas music playing already on my ipod is JD Shaw's (the brass arranger from Phantom Regiment) full time project called Boston Brass - http://www.bostonbrass.com/live/ (listen to some sound bites here) They have this cd with all of this Christmas music / "The Stan Kenton Christmas Carols" Okay, it's not drum corps, but some freakin great brass band music!
  2. David will fight this. He always has and he always will. Anyone with the ability to be so open with his life, has the ability to look this (once again) in the eye and fight it head on. Is it a tough battle? Yes! Is it a battle that he could potentially lose? Maybe. BUT... David has this one thing about him that I learned when we marched together in the early 80s... when somebody says "no" he says "why not?"... when somebody says "no" again, he says... "watch me!" Why do you think his nickname is Primo? We've got your 6 Primo. Fight! Don't ever give up! Fight! For Holy Name ... Eric Sabach

  5. Hey Everybody, Let me put to rest some thoughts and concerns about the Phantom Regiment Phan COMMEMORATIVE rings. I designed the MEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP ring and the FAN COMMEMORATIVE ring for Phantom Regiment and have the manufacturer of the 2007 Super Bowl rings making them for the corps. In the past I have designed rings for the last two Blue Devil championships, along with other numerous projects for all sorts of activities, including professional sports teams and their league offices. So let start with a comparison between the two rings: MEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RING - XL championship sized ring - Pantone Matching System PMS032 red stone - RUBY - Bezel cut - horizontal across the knuckle - Member name on Shank 1 - Member section on Shank 2 - This is an XL large ring that a NCAA or Minor League sports team would have for its players, coaches and staff - It is noticeably large on first view and is a significantly heavier ring. FAN COMMEMORATIVE RING - Scholastic or Collegiate in size - Synthetic Onyx stone - Oval cut bezel - oval and vertical on the knuckle - Spartacus on Shank 1 (not personalized) - Phantom Regiment (two lines) on Shank 2 (not personalized) - This is a college/high school size ring - It is noticeably smaller than the champ ring. I have worked with a few professional sports teams that have won championships and they almost all put an affinity ring program together for their fans. The Patriots, Rams, Broncos, Ravens and Steelers are a few that come to mind that have done this. The affinity rings for the fans are either an inferior copy ("fugazi" for my east coast friends) of the estimated $18000.00 ring that the players and coaches wear.... OR ... a different design that does not cost nearly as much (usually in the $400 to $2000 range). This Regiment commemorative ring is for the fan, super fan, supporter, donor, drum corps collector, parent, grand parent, band director or even somebody that has helped a member pay their tuition to the corps as a memory of the Phantom Regiment's historic and emotional victory at the 2008 DCI World Championships. Will people wear this ring? I hope so. Will most have it as a keepsake in their office like the ones I have (and I won a few too)? Of course! Will somebody say they marched this year with the Regiment somewhere down the road? I hope NOT, but they don't need a ring to do that and we all will know the difference in the ring when they say they did. Alumni Ring? Yes, I am in discussion with the Phantom Regiment about this subject. More to follow at a later date. I hope this answers any/ all of your questions. Happy drum corps off-season! IF YOU HAVE A MARCHING BAND, DRUM CORPS, INDOOR PERCUSSION, WINTER GUARD OR ANY OTHER CHAMPIONSHIP TO CELEBRATE AND DESIRE A RING, PLEASE CONTACT ME.
  6. Congratulations to the members of Star United..... and continued success!
  7. 1983 I marched in the Garfield Cadets and the Garfield the Cat comic strip was very popular. Fan from the stands as we were standing in the opening set: "Hey Garfield, where's Odie?" Whispered from the guy standing next to me on the field: "You just sit right there and were going to stick Odie in your face!"
  8. Just think of that uniform as the precursor to the Crossmen's "Three Amigos" uniform of a few years later. The peacock uniform was unveiled to the Crossmen in the winter of 1980 and most of he corps got up and left. Two weeks later it was presented to the Royal Brigade and we were told that DCI "needed a Muchachos like corps back in Finals" and we drank the koolaid. Well, at least the young and dumb ones like me did. = ) We knew that Garfield had less than 20 brass in April, but we didn't know that George Hopkins was in a van in the deep south recruiting some great talent.... and now, you know, the REST of the story!
  9. Sara, You are partially right. Johnny and Paul stayed until sometime in the late winter. They were a little bummed out because Star was supposed to be the place that the three of us did together and then Marc was to stay at Garfield (according to JS and PP back then). I stayed in Bloomington because I loved it there and Johnny and Paul went back to Garfield seeing the opportunity to help Tony Hall (Regiment 93,94 and current drill guru to whoever is writing) with the drill with Cadets. Hope this helps.... = )
  10. LOL Dave, but my team wearing the peacock came in 8th in field brass! .... We couldn't march into the ocean from the beach, but we could play! = )

  19. Anybody coming to the preview show at Onalaska High School Wednesday night at 6pm? Any thoughts on the 2008 season? Any thoughts on all of the videos that the Blue Stars have put up on the DCI Fan Network (a new video almost every other day)? Did you see the Blue Stars Father's Day Tribute on the Fan Network? 20. The Blue Stars and in need of two college aged interns to help with tour, run errands, push marimbas when needed, help build props, grocery and clinic runs, and basically be the hands and feet that the corps director and tour manager need on tour. You get to see all of the behind the scenes activity and help the management team with the daily operations of the corps, along with being front and center with the drum corps at all of our competitions. Two weeks minimum on tour please, a month would be fantastic. This is a great opportunity for a music education student to watch how a world class drum corps gets down the road. They can use this experience on their resumes and will be given letters of recommendation after the summer, along with a summer stipend. Please have them call me directly at 608-738-2469 Thanks
