  1. Oh sure. But I'm just considering time. Cadets had a nice long preseason camp in Johnstown (as usual)... which is where I went to school actually... wish they were around there when I was a kid... would have been neat.

The Cadets (like BD) almost always comes out pretty clean (more than others) at the start of the season. I just don't see that any of the corps in the lineup tonight would be nearly as polished in only the end of the 1st week of shows. Maybe in 3 more weeks?... But the Cadets are going to have most of the captions in the bag in both comp. and perf. with more material written and more quality time to have rehearsed it.

Devils will be the same way. They always are.

Accually, Cadets historicly used to come out a muddled hot mess visually and then was absoulutely wonderful by August.

  2. I think you would doing a disservice to the Open Class corps by using sheets for the majority of their shows that simply aren't meant for them. None of the OC corps are capable of hitting Box 5 on WC sheets, and many (most?) would never even touch Box 4 (70-89 on WC sheets). I don't think it's right for the performers and staff to not receive meaningful feedback and evaluation. The thing that makes Open Class crazy is the achievement gap. The difference between the top 3 and bottom 5 corps is so immense that WC scores are just about useless for many OC corps. For the corps that don't have a shot at semis, today is just for fun.

good points, thats why I threw it out there

  3. Perhaps things have changed, but I'm pretty sure the same judges do both Open and World class. I would be truly surprissed if there is any judge on the field during finals week getting a 'first read' on any of these shows.

Back in my day (2001-2002) we did the first half of the season with DCM, which meant we were all on the same sheets. We always looked forward to the 15-20 point boost we got when we went on the DCI tour.

The staffs/members should expect a difference in score, but by this point it's more about a chance to perform a show you love one last time. I say don't coddlethem, Corps members are competetors and they can handle it.

I know this is not the judges first read of the shows, i'm just talking about using the world class criteria sooner in the season

  4. Why wouldn't they want to, they love performing or they wouldn't be in Drum Corps to begin with. This is an opportunity for them to get to play in the dome under the lights for their shows to shine which is an opportunity most open class corps do not get.

  5. I am a World Class Alum and as a band director in small schools I now have so much respect for what Open class does. Just a point for discussion....

Since it was common knowledge that OC would be competing in WC prelims, should they have been exposed to the WC sheets earlier in the season to help them better prepare. It has to be hard for these kids to see their scores dropping 20 plus points. Should we just have one sheet and let the scores fall where they fall? I am no way implying that there shouldn't be open class, they should have and need to have their own events, but should they be using world class sheets to prepare for WC prelims that for most will be their their last performance of the season?

  6. Hey just something for discussion. Does anyone else feel that since it was common knowledge that all the Open/International class corps were going to compete in the WC prelims, that these corps should have been exposed to the WC sheets sooner. It has to be hard for these kids to see their scores drop 20 plus points over night. Should we just being using one sheet and let the scores fall where they fall? I am in no way saying eliminate the open and international classes. They deserve and need their own events, Just use the same sheets so they can prepare for WC prelims which for most will be their last performance of the season.

  7. just food for thought, since it was common knowledge that open class corps were going to compete in WC prelims, to help them prepare, should they have been exposed to the WC sheets earlier in the season? It has to be hard for those kids to be seeing their scores down 20 plus points over night. Should all corps be on the same sheets now regardless of class and let the scores fall where they fall? I am certainly not saying eliminate the open/international class, still have their own events, just use the WC sheets so that they can better prepare for their WC prelim performance which for most of these corps will be their last of the season
